What a great looking truck, and also it's not weird to say that the tranny is not happy. I say the same about my Ram, my truck is way happier and feels way healthier when I'm towing a really heavy load. that's exactly what they are made for. ford and chevy focus on how fast they can take off on a drag race, ram focus on towing.

Surprisingly, the ram 3500 is the go to truck here in Texas. You see way more of these on the road hauling than Ford, Chevys, and GMCs almost combined. Ford comes in second but far behind the Ram. Hotshotting is a big deal here and most say the Ram is superior.

Looked at a ‘24 3500 Dually Limited with HO 6.7 today @ $105k. Old GM Guy, have a F450 Limited on order (Sept ‘23) and due to long wait, considering Ram & GMC. Wife & I took Ram for a test drive… beautiful interior but right off noticed with seat fully down, head slightly rubbed roof and roominess was tighter: felt narrower than SuperDuty. I’m 6’8" height… so cabin size is always an important test, and Ram with it’s small sunroof must loose some headroom. Empty payload ride was quite smooth & better than expected, 6.7 gave a faint nice diesel sound, Eng Brake was noticeable and turning was similar to F350, not as tight as F450. For a Limited trim, personally didn’t feel it compared to F450 Limited: Seats, suede roof liner, large sunroof, stitching and the different leather used on seats looked like a future wear problem like on my Cherokee Overland. Drivetrain… respected it was new and someone’s future pride & joy… I didn’t push it. It did move though gears smoothly but the engines low - mid RPM didn’t give the same ample torque feeling a few SD 6.7 HO provided. Both feel stout and maybe the Ram likes a little more throttle to perform. Eng Brake set full on with no payload felt & decelerated similar to new SD Eng Brake (‘23-24)… can’t judge under heavy load. It definitely beats the GMC Ultimate 3500 Dually recently tested, and I’d enjoy driving the Ram if the F450 Limited never shows, but it didn’t sway me to cancel the order.

Sir, after doing a lot of research, i reached a point where i had to comment. 1st, I am a ford lover, have been for years. When I started to seriously look at buying a dually, I personally love the king ranch. Love the interior of this model. Was looking at the 450. I realized that yes, I could add rear air bags (dealer installed), to this, and it would perform well, with the moderately given the load I would put on it. Yet, when I sat down at home, to seriously look at going the next day to order this truck, I saw the engine packages. A regular H.O. diesel, and another H.O. diesel (the second being water cooled for lack of a longer explanation). I built this truck (my dream) copied and pasted to KZbin (as I choose the later to the former motors) only to find out that this truck is rife on diesel motors with problems. The company I work for runs ford (it's like a religion to them). One repair on one of these diesels, out of warranty cost them $22,000. Now, for this big company who buys millions, $22,000 isn't nothing to them. Yet, on doing and digging deep research, the later H.O. diesel Ford Motor (water jackets) will cost that much because of the way it's designed, takes to many parts off that truck (almost a complete front end off, and a cab off) to work on. In warranty might not be so bad, but, out of warranty, a $100,000 truck out of warranty, plus, $12000 -$15,000 to fix a problem with this motor, makes this one expansive truck to own. And its pricey enough as it is. As much as I love ford, given the track record of this truck, given its track record by people owning f350's and f450's on KZbin pulling 5th wheels, having troubles with this same truck, I went towards dodge. Where I am at is not dodge country. Yet, when I stack ford to dodge, Cummins motor, exhaust breaking (under load vs. non-load), mpg, detailed attention to interior, (I like simple), rear leveling system (airbag), dodge kept coming up a winner. Enough for me to buy a Limited (Night addition). I am not, nor will I throw a dodge verses ford here. But I will say this, before any walks onto a ford lot, to spend $100000 of hard-earned money, that comes through blood, sweat and a lot of tears, do your research. Ford just isn't there at the moment. To many problems with this motor, to expansive in the long run to maintain. Not saying dodge is better. Just saying that if you do your research, and really dig into it, dodge is coming up better than ford. Hope this helps someone. Scottishxpride, Tx. P.S. We will not address at this time the problems ford and chevy are having with their 10 speed transmissions. Which at this writing are legendary!

@@scottishpride7511 Sounds like you've found your Truck, I do wish the absolute best for ya! My post was 7 months ago, since then I've received my F450 Limited in late May (10 month wait). I'm extremely happy that I waited, the truck is more than I expected! Since owning...doing my own work, I've added the ReadyLift dual air suspension (dual air bags) with a AirIQ & 2 Gal Air Tank, it provides separate air control to both sides preventing the common push loading to wrong bags in turns or wind. Added the Carli / King suspension, Separate Air compressor , 5 gal tank for Air Horns and Air chuck use. Several Banks: iDash, Intake & DPF Back Exhaust, FASS Fuel Filter system, H&S Upper Filter relocation to below, added the Rt Hub and vacuum lines, etc. You bring up the 6.7 HO as problematic with high repairs in future. The 6.7 HO is only in its 2nd year (2024), and the standard option is not an HO, but the normal 6.7 Turbo. Correct, the HO uses some liquid cooling and your expressions of the turbo cooling system being bad design is news to me, so far in my monitoring there hasn't been any issues with the "HO" components... actually I've read the opposite, the HO design added reliability and several HO features were used in the standard 6.7 as well. Overall the 6.7 design with minimal effort has outperformed GM & Ram in HP & Torque. The design provides a framework for Ford to add more power to remain competitive as Ram & GM attempt to take the High Torque position. If you examine the design of the 6.7, it really is unique and advanced... to much to go into here. The Tranny, 10sp Allison is a complex tranny. Although several reviews clearly show the Ford version is heavier and more robust. I believe 2025 Ram is bringing new model out with new 8 Speed... that'll be a new tranny for the Ram, which could also have unforeseen issues. For the repair price you gave $10-20K, would likely be the CP4 Injector Pump. That is a probably the main concern to 6.7 Owners. All 3 Brands used the CP4, GM & Ram, all had failures; GM & Ram were able to move back to other injection pumps, the design of the 6.7 was based on CP4. (GM recently lost the CP4 Court case, a Win for All CP4 Owners). Although destruction is highly avoidable, it's based on lack of lubrication for US Fuels and treatable with supplement and filtering of water and contaminants. The DCR Pump is an excellent conversion when warranty expires. Overall percentage of CP4 failures is low, but certainly is a concern. As with Ram & GM, all 3 have failure points that can be very expensive. The Intake Heater bolt has caused many very pricey repairs for Ram as example, among the problems. Any New Truck with all the Emissions will have a much higher maintenance expense compared to older Diesel models. The Emissions will be a major cost as all Diesels age and gain milage. All new high trim Trucks have mind blowing prices, and all will experience high maintenance & repair costs. I don't think any new truck with Diesel will be a low cost vehicle... so it's back to personal preference of brand & model. Lastly, Interior... Comes down to personal preference and viewpoint. For me, hands down the SD is supreme... I like the interior design, controls: screen and knobs laid out nicely, seat comfort, and Interior size to fit my 6'8" frame. I do wish you the best of luck with your Ram. All Brands will have problems, If planning to keep 10+yrs, I'd suggest to buy the extended warranty, I purchased the 10yr full warranty. I have 2 friends, with new Rams, they've had multiple problems and several extended Dealership visits... one regrets not staying with Ford. I haven't had one issue yet... although I do have 2 items for warranty to replace. Passenger Seat Fan is noisy, and Drivers Door Interior Panel has a small area on leather that is defective. Waiting on parts to replace. Any New Truck with all the Emissions will have a much higher maintenance expense compared to older Diesel models. The Emissions will be a major cost as all Diesels age and gain milage. The Option to delete emissions isn't a practical direction anymore.

That is one of the many problems with these loaded dually trucks; to wit the significant decrease in payload. My SRW Silverado 3500 CC 4wd Duramax has a payload of 4,086lbs. It is lightly equipped but has everything I wanted including leather, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and the bed camera. I get the argument for dual rear wheels. However in my humble opinion it defeats the purpose (payload) once you pile on the options. Then again, to each their own.
