Love these colors. I’m a fan on light colors on cars and bicycles - visibility and cooler temperatures. I like nothing less than big black trucks and SUVs.

Very informative! One safety question, why doesn’t Riese & Muller incorporate Garmin radar into their bikes? I have a Specialized Vado 5.0 with the Garmin Varia Radar system built into the display and tail light and it is a fantastic system! I always know when, where, and how many cars are approaching from the rear. I think it makes biking much safer!

All this extra stuff really does make sense. If we want more folks to buy an ebike instead of car number 2 (or one even), making the ride as comfortable and hassle free as possible will be key, imo.

TBH, I'd like e-bikes to be a fully fleshed-out commuter option, with all the safety tech and regulations, backed by proper commuting infrastructure and law enforcement. E-bikes will need all these "complicated" stuff to keep up with this desired future, so bring on the ABS!

Someone really needs to take on regenerative braking. I've looked at the wheel chargers because I have a lot of long descents, but wonder if anyone has thought about this for extended range. Thanks Chris. I always look forward to your content.

Tilting at windmills. Even on the very best electric vehicles (Tesla) the regen does not significantly add range and a bike would be far less efficient than a 4400 lb car.

I agree with the above. It doesn't do much, but it could help prolong your brake life. It's nearly impossible to implement on s middrive though

I could imagine a geared hub motor ride by wire System with regen breaking built in and one lever breaking via linked brakes, supported by ABS. Could be a fully integrated ultra low maintenance ebike you just get on and go.
@keithd.2722
@keithd.2722 8 ай бұрын
The math really doesn't work out for regenerative braking on e-bikes - it's just not efficient enough and there isn't enough energy to capture to make much of a difference at this point in technology. The one thing that might eventually shift that balance would be supercapacitors, but even then, the benefits would be very limited and would rarely benefit most riders. I don't have the data at hand, but I did look into this a few years ago after seeing a couple videos of people doing it with Chinese hub drive homebrew e-bikes. They showed more benefit than there really was because they were missing a lot of the little technical nuances and knowledge of how batteries and charging/discharging actually work vs. how they look on volt meters. At this time, it really isn't practical, and even under ideal conditions, it's realistically probably never going to be.

Mokwheel sells an inverter that utilizes the battery as a power bank, and I think it also comes with folding solar panels for charging the battery. Hovsco batteries have a huge light panel. I don’t recall if you can use the battery for running anything besides the bike or the integrated light panel. Juiced batteries I think have an integrated USB-A port. But I know for sure they sell an accessory that lets you drop in and use up to 2 batteries as a power bank. I think it can also charge the batteries.

Thanks for the updates, i wonder what is a good 'upgrade' cycle for these things my guess is 3 years or something before you really get useful upgrades. Now using a Nevo3 automatiq and really need to see more progress on the automatiq and bosch controller part to make it even more smooth and maybe more efficient. Still not convinced by the new looks of the smart systems and i don't get why its not a 'thing' of having 1 or 2 usb-c charging ports build into the cockpit and a better kiox integration if these are car replacements charging either by magsafe or usb-c should be a given. Also wonder why they don't make a 250watt extra battery with build in charger for on the road that would be a even better way if you need to up your charge along the way say during a quick lunch (make it 6a). Overall i get the feeling the 2024 models are great but more in a dip to recover from c19 times before we see the next wave of upgrades.

I've been waiting for ABS before I purchase my next bike as my commute is largely on a dirt path, on which I have slipped and fallen a number of times. I've always gotten lucky but have witnessed a few accidents where folks weren't so lucky. It's easy to forget the speed you are going at, and when you suddenly need to break hard, ABS can be sorely missed. So glad to see it finally making its way into the R&M bikes.

It would be good if the older frame mount batteries (powerpack 500) were able to be updated. I have an older R&M Delite and although I have plenty of range with 2 batteries, it would be great to take advantage of any higher capacity cells in the battery packs. Looking at the load models that use the 725 watt frame mount batteries, can these be used on older Delites? I'm UK based by the way.

Your channel is EXCELLENT! I have a bike With Enviolo Automatiqe. And I absolutely love it ABS ? Yes yes yes ! That will be difference between falling over and sliding along getting road rash Or Stopping before a collision. Battery vs batteries ? I like option. If you go too far with one battery you are stuck trying to get back pedaling an 80# bike . So if you do proper planning and you realize too close to running out you throw on second battery. Kinda like flying small plane you don't want to run out fuel before you get to next runway What about about a regen system that adds in power as you pedal ?? Like old days little generator that produced power for lights ??

Thanks for the updates as usual, Chris. I'm disappointed in the integration of the battery on the Culture. This will inevitably add unnecessary costs for the for consumer when it comes to having to replace and it also takes power away from the consumer by making it very difficult to do a simple task like changing the battery. It's the wrong way to go. ABS - as long as it's an option and not forced, it's just not necessary for most people. I like the GPS tracking and locking feature of the new bosch systems. Now that's useful!

First off, love the videos and information you bring. I was wondering if some time you might lay out the offerings or compare what the low end entry points are for getting into an e-bike, but one that has safe batteries and systems. I know you have talked about this subject before but it would be nice in context with what the low end options that are available with these systems compared to the lower priced offerings with systems that may be questionable. Thats at least my main concern with moving to an e-bike in relation to my budget.

we’re seeing a growing number of products become available and compliance with the new UL standard. I think this is a big deal. Some brands might still have some questionable standards elsewhere, but at least we can have more confidence that the batteries are safe. We definitely favor Bosch for a variety of reasons, but some other brands like a Ben 10 and Bellatrix seem to be growing in popularity as more affordable options. I have found that the ride experience is quite a bit different, but that’s likely what I would recommend somebody else to consider. I was thinking about making a video about the variety of eBikes available meeting the UL Standard I think it could be really helpful, especially given the new New York City law which comes into affect September 16th.

I have a R&M 2019 Delite GX extreme rohloff HS. Comfortable, fast, quiet and reliable is how I describe it. Mine is the older Super Delite GX model with the more visible dual 500w batteries. It has the excellent Rohloff E-shift 14speed and the range is 80-100 miles if I'm not climbing a lot or going too fast. The bike has nearly 20K miles on it and a new Bosch Performance motor that was installed in June of this year under warranty. I have another ebike as well so the mileage is deceptively low as I ride approx 500 miles/month. These bike are expensive and many don't see the value. I can tell you having owned 10 or so ebikes that quality does count. R&M is an expensive bike but it's very high quality with well integrated components and software. I'll ride this one till it dies and will look at the market with an open mind at that time, but if I were buying now, R&M would be at the top of my short list.

I got a Delite instead of the Super because I didn't want to have the extra weight 100% of the time for range I might need maybe 1% of the time. The farthest I might ride in a day is about 30 miles, and one battery is plenty for that. And in that rare case where I'd want to do a long all-day trip, I'll give you a call and order another powertube, and throw it in one of my panniers!

Chris, thank you for this information. I have a few questions about the Superdelite. Specifically I'd like to know more about the comfort kit. How does it change sitting posture? Would love to see a bike equipped with the comfort kit side by a side with the one that did not have it. Also, when comfort kit is included why are cockpits unavailable? It must be a mounting issue but can the Kiox and Nyon really not be mounted in another way? Do the Superdelites (model 4) have walk assist? I've read/seen somewhere that they did not. Finally, if R&M ever updates the Superdelite with antilock brakes do you think older bikes could be retrofitted? Thank you again. R&M is lucky to have you as dealer and on the front line. I'm in the States and hope to purchase in the future. Glad to know you ship! I don't live close to the NE or Cali. Jack

I don’t understand the appeal of dual battery on the bike. If I want a second battery (or a third, or a fourth, or a fifth), I just bring the extra battery/batteries in my bag. No need for the cost of the extra mount.

@ScrapKing73

@@badabing8884 How heavy is it to carry? No heavier than a second battery installed on a bike. How expensive to buy? Bicycles with a dual battery set-up are far more expensive than ones that come with a single battery (all other things being equal), so if you want two batteries you're paying for two batteries either way. But with the benefit that you don't have to carry two batteries with you everywhere, only on particularly long trips.

@@Propelbikes I use a Burley Travoy trailer for shopping and errands. There are days when it's easy to quickly do 60-70 km hauling the trailer for multiple errands. It's hilly where I live so I end up using more power assist when hauling loads which means I drain the battery more quickly. Having a couple of Range Extenders is like having that bag interchangeable batteries for my power tools. Swap in a fresh battery, drop off the groceries, then head out on the next errand.

I live in Utah. If I bought a Riese and Muller bike and.needed service would I need to ship it off to you?
@Propelbikes
@Propelbikes 8 ай бұрын
In short no. But to go deeper we actually have quite a few customers in Utah. We can deliver fully assembled and fortunately most service items can be handled at most shops which are trained on Bosch. Also due to our focus on selling these bikes it's usually pretty easy for us to diagnose what's going on with a bike without it even being in the shop and we have staff dedicated to support our remote customers. We also help other shops if they get jammed up for some reason. We'd love the opportunity to earn your business. I encourage you to reach out to us through our website propelbikes.com

Just because a shop is Bosch certified, it doesn't mean they know electrical diagnostics and troubleshooting beyond what the diagnostic tool tells them. The certification is just a fee, a branding class, an impossible to fail test, and a usb tool. Look for service shops that will work on ebikes or are ebike specific and assess them by their staffs competency, knowledge, and background. Not the branding they advertise.

Hi Chris, Good to see your latest video on the latest riese&muller updates on the 2004 season. Regards the updates mentioned would certain things mentioned(GPS) etc be available on my Vero gt performance line 6x motor December 2002 sometime also say certain software Say kiox up to the 300 model? May I say I feel that me being a retired person I got the best bike I could afford, it is a shame that to enhance the bike further in status I cannot like my other cycles do so ,it doesn't do the name of riese&muller credit. I as a customer feel that the only update would to expend a lot of money and purchase a new bike to do so,ridiculous. Having a dual 500Wh batteriey on board is on short runs I would like to improve the weight situation and run on one battery,I would like to alternate them, therefore can you tell me please the part number for the dummy front cover please. Regards Michael Green United Kingdom

Do you put your baby in the carseat in your cargo bike? I have a RM load 60 and a 3 month old, and I really want to bike with her as soon as possible, but I figured she was too young still
@Propelbikes

I have taken her on the bike in the car seat as early as 3 months, but in very controlled environments like parks mostly. At 6 months I started to feel a lot more comfortable. I think having the full suspension really helps.

I tried an R&M bike for the first time and found it felt draggy (UBN 6 silent). Totally surprised me as the blurb about the bike advertised it as being very smooth on the pass through as if it was meant to ride similarly to a push bike when no assistance is switched on. I'd rather ride a normal pushbike if that's what an ebike is supposed to feel like. So what is the R&M ethos? Is it to sell ebikes to people who don't want much electric assistance or like their ebike to feel just like a pushbike? Seems like the opposite of what an ebike is meant to provide in terms of utility? For the amount of money these bikes cost I'm staggered to see that people regard them as one of the pinnacles of the ebike vanguard. I've ridden Lime rental bikes that feel more fun to ride. Just one person's opinion. Don't assassinate me for sharing my experience.

I encourage you to try a Bosch powered R&M. I think it’s likely you’ll have a very different experience. Also, keep in mind that there are varying levels of efficiency, depending on the drivetrain you choose. The Vario is very easy to use, but it does lack the efficiency of the other drivetrains

The only option for a guy with a 25" inseam leg to safely stand over a bike is a Step-Through frame. With all of the Over-Step frames, the top tube is too high to safely stand over the bike. The Charger4 Mixte has a Mid-Step frame and it is too high to stand over safely. For me, the best choice comes down to Nevo4 and Culture Mixte. The range on the new Culture Mixte might not be long enough though. Looking for a bike with 100 mile range.

I'd recommend the 43cm Nevo4, it's a really solid bike.

Bosch can bring ABS to America but NOT the NYON?? Stupid. I wish they would focus their tech on ANTI-THEFT. Batteries and displays should be removable (Kiox, this means you). When I park the e-bike in public I want to immobilize it. Also, any bike I spend thousands on I want the right-to-repair the common parts like brakes and shifters. I am dismayed Bosch is preventing the consumer's choice to add a dongle to increase the speed output. I love Bosch quality and prefer their motor but not if it becomes so proprietary that it becomes Big Brother Bosch controlling what I can change or improve as I, the consumer, choose to do.

Not a fan of the Culture design. Looks like someone ran a smooth brush over it in a 3D modelling program, or like they took cues from a rose gold Apple product. I like the angular looks of the other models way more.

I guess I'm old school. I paid $1500 for my hub-drive bike 5 years ago. It's got hydraulic brakes, headlight, taillight and a bell. I would pay $500 more for mid-drive, maybe another couple hundred for Bosch branding. All the rest is for people with more money than ... My phone does everything else. *Note. He thinks that Americans aren't familiar with shifting. I think that it's the Europeans that are not enamored with shifting since most of the city commuting that I see doesn't require a gearbox.

If you have a single battery technically you may be able to plug one into the charge port and put it inside the box. There likely will not be a factory option for it though
