@laurenceT141Ай бұрын
They're putting their feet where they had them during a familiarisation session. They all got time under the bar to pick their foot position, it was recorded and they needed to stick to that position. I think the rational was that everyone could be loaded up in their best position and that there couldn't be any shenanigans with bar height. I don't think it worked though, I'm pretty sure Hooper managed to game his position during familiarisation, because there's no way if it was all the same every other athlete got down to one depth and he only needed a half squat. Maybe the others didn't play it right, but he definitely played the mechanism in some way. (Which there were no rules against, he won fair and square by playing the game better than everyone else)

Just like the car leg press. Over complicating does not equal impressive. When half the field can't get one rep you know your event is bad. Foot placement is probably the dumbest thing in strongman. Most go wide to use their quad strength only to realize under real load that warmup weight is not like comp weight. Also, static bar path you might as well squat in a smith machine. No way for athletes to correct in order to use their actual strength. If you're putting a powerlifting meet than do that, otherwise figure out how to do squat right...say like the Arnold. I have no issue with Hooper's squat, it's the 'measuring' that failed miserably and whomever recorded Mitch's foot placement might have wanted to look up at his depth. If the ref allows then it's the ref's fault, not the athlete. Brian, you may want to come back to the basic. I don't think I've enjoyed watching a Strongman comp like MvM the other week. None of the overly complicated nonsense that the SMoE\SC has turned into.

lol what in the world was that squat depth for Mitchel hooper? There were no reps. 32:11 the nerve to say that 😂with not even half depth on each squat
@SpockPlaysGuitarАй бұрын
I mean, it was a smith machine squat, but no one was allowed to say it

Hooper only did half reps. No depth

Friendly reminder to all the casual fans that this event made zero difference in who won the competition.

ALL PEOPLE TELL MY t's just my opinion that Hooper does a shallower squat than others to the resting line, or did his glutes really not go as low as others, did they adjust the machine or what?
@ronaldjtriumph5985Ай бұрын
They are making them place their feet way too far forward ... Making it even harder ... It's insane.

This is joke Hoopers half reps.
@KragatarАй бұрын
If you use the banner behind them as reference, you can see that Hooper's squats actually do cover the same distance as the other guys. I agree he looks like he's not doing down all the way, but the bar doesn't lie.
@MrBiscuits-i5vАй бұрын
Ya the bar maxes out on the bottom but look how high it travels with mitch just above the R then watch Thors his goes 12 inches or more higher then mitch his range of motion is way more.
@DespondАй бұрын
@@Kragatar But the same distance doesn't matter because everyone has different lever dimensions. So he may travel 35cm but the guy going deeper will struggle more. Body mechanics are a reality they should just have to be parallel, and if you body doesn't like that, well tough luck.
@fruitgrapepwnageАй бұрын
@@Despond Bro he doesn't achieve full ROM, regardless of anthropometry. It was not a squat and obviously the event should not have been called "squat" event. Thor could probably do 20 half squats if he knew he could get away with it. Mitchell stole this one by chance (or brains) but if the machine remains I'm willing to bet he would not even be in top 3 next time.

Hooper wasnt half squatting, he literally touched the bottom but im suprised his knees didn't make sense
