Grade vid. Apologies if this has been mentioned already, but I read that the reason for the rev hang in this car at lower speeds is that that is when the port injection is operating. The ECU keeps the revs up to prevent unburned fuel from getting through to the exhaust. When you are pushing the car and are not experiencing the rev hang, it’s because the direct injection is operating and therefore fuel is being burned that much quicker after it’s injected. This is why the ND does not need to have rev hang tuned in for emissions purposes. Maybe someone will find this interesting. I owned a GR 86 for a year and noticed the same thing you did. Definitely not a dealbreaker because it’s not an issue when pushing the car when you care about it most.

My only experience is with the manual. But I would assume so. However since you aren’t shifting manually, I wouldn’t think it would be as noticeable. Maybe someone with an AT can chime in. And if it’s something that bothers you, it can be tuned out. If you are trying to decide on buying one, the only way to know is to drive it.

Would have thought a moderately powered smaller affordable car model would thrive in the UK. Heritage of Triumph, Rover, and Austin, TVR, Bristol, Lotus Cortina etc all gone to the Leyland scrapyard ? Is the UK today just too many influencers with new Lambos, white van men, and salaraymen in BMW 320i , and NPCs in the likes of a Ford Puma (now SUV) and KIA Sportage ?
@Luke_ST_7 ай бұрын
@@Affalterbach1967 Suppose you aren't far off there! The UK roads now are mostly massive & boring SUVs that take up too much of our already small roads, or larger saloons from Audi/BMW/Mercedes. The GR Yaris has been a big success(as it should), but when companies like Ford axe the Fiesta (after the mk8.5) with the Puma, and soon to axe the Focus in favour of a new "Capri" which is just another SUV, you can see the UK market (and I suppose the EU market in general) is looking bleak. At least Mazda still have the MX-5/Miata :)

I 'get' the whole ethos behind this and the GT86. It was just up against such strong competition, and was neither an MX5 competitor, nor a rival for something like an M2. It needed to be much lighter, like Lotus Elise weight, and more simple, OR much more powerful, to find it's place. I hardly see any of them on the road here in the UK, but see dozens of MX5's daily, and a fair few M2's.

I disagree, Miata stock wise is probably a better value, but once you add mods into the mix the BRZ far outclasses the Miata. Especially when it comes to engine mods as there's basically nothing you can do to the Miata.

@@strmshadow8411 honestly this is a weird argument.it's 500 lbs lighter, and there's not much you can do to the 2.4 either. The Miata is baked with body roll on purpose. A set of Dampers and sway bars would change the whole character of the car.

@@MK3504 I know about the Miata suspension. What do you mean not much you can do to the 2.4??? There's turbo's and Superchargers out for it now. Tuning has been out for it for multiple years now. The problem is there really isn't much choice in the segment for sports cars under 3000lbs. The steering may be just ok when compared to a Miata but it's honestly on the good side when u compared to other options in the price range. Just like u said with the Miata suspension, the manual experience can be improved with bushings/weighted knobs/short shifter and that's a lot cheaper than springs, dampers and sway bars.
