Correction: I incorrectly said our quickest 0-100 result was in 'I' mode. It was quicker in 'I' mode without brake-hold compared with S mode without brake-hold, but not the quickest outright. The quickest time was achieved in S mode and manual shifting, without brake-hold start. Apologies for the confusion.

I have just purchased the new 2024 Impreza after having owned a 2018 model from new. I was always happy with the performance of the previous generation, and this new car seems to be a much more sporty drive. I never ever had any problem finding enough power to overtake, or accelerate rapidly in my previous Impreza, and to generally have a lot of fun driving on country roads. The CVT transmission is very easy to live with, and once you learn how it actually works, it does make a lot of sense. I think it is a mistake to judge a cars overall performance on straight line acceleration figures, and why would anyone expect a new vehicle to perform it's best when it has not even reached the end of it's break in period? The true capabilities of the car will not be experienced until it has done a few thousand kilometers.

That was painfully slow. Can you imagine if you're on the highway and you had to overtake a road train or something you would just couldn't do it. That's terrible. Definitely needs a turbo come on Subaru. What are you doing? Your cars used to be wicked. This is so boring😴

I’d be worried about a stone from the road train cracking my very expensive windscreen. Honestly the windscreen replacement and eyesight calibration costs are the biggest show stopper for me with Subaru.

it's the rear middle seatbelt that put me off....if one has'nt enough power to get into or out of trouble then it's time to have decent seatbelts....

Why the American market get the 2.5Lt engine RS model and in Australia we get the anaemic 2Lt is beyond me. Subaru were an exciting quirky car company. They have become very safe and boring of late.

that vietnamese comparison caught me off guard lol, why did u use it. anyway, this car is just abysmal. I think they should just scrap the small car section from subaru entirely, because this is just sad. high consumption due to AWD. which 80% of australia will not need anyway small bootspace, smaller than previous gen, how is that even possible lethargic engine no airvents in the back. again, how is that even acceptable in 2024. the gigantic touchscreen is the biggest turn offs from the entire subaru lines. and this just adds salt to the wound that is of this car. really, at this pricepoint and segment, who in their right mind would even consider this car? Im curious to see the reasonings behind why some people might want it.

The manual transmission was discontinued for this generation worldwide, so the CVT is all you get.

is everything about speed, not everyone drives at full throttle most people drive in city traffic where top speed is impossible and 0-100 is a more like 0-20

To be fair.. most cars use the same platform for at least two generations (not facelifts.. generations) , this is no different, it's just the styling is very similar to the previous gen so it's mistaken for a facelift. Surprised its times are so slow compared to last gen. I've done multiple runs [on a 2022] @ low 10s on a dragy box just with no brake hold . If you stall it up with full throttle the previous gen would also recognise this and switch to a different CVT program, with lower launch ratio and no 'shifts' which would lower it to the mid 9's .. strange really.. no idea if this gen can do this. You could also get it to drop down another ratio when accelerating on a roll by flicking the - paddle, or lifting slightly and flooring it again which makes a huge difference to 60-100 or whatever. I have a whole video detailing all this but i've never got around to uploading it 🙄
