i have a 2015 Subaru Legacy, bought it new in 2015, currently with 150 K miles, and i just bought yesterday a 2022 Subaru Outback Premium with only 20 K miles and it has the Yokohamas Avid GT's on it.

I have a 2022 with those same tires and it handled yesterday's 8" of snow and sleet with no problem. I got to try out X mode which was fine also, but mostly I didn't even need it. Very happy how it performed.

I went from a pos Audi A6 to my first Outback limited. The audi mechanically totaled itself after 4 years with about $12k needed for new tranny, power steering rack, fried headlights. Complete pile of teuton excrement as all german cars are. Don't believe the german engineering lies! The Subaru was 11 years of relaxed and peaceful issue free driving. Yes, i will upgrade to newer alongside my GX460 Lux tank. It's a 1-2 punch for even the most brutal northwest winters. Thanks for great review and insights!

Eventually, I'm getting an outback and trading in my ram 1500, and I'll probably be getting the premium model, absolutely love the outback ever since I worked for Subaru and got to basically test drive all the Subarus, but I fell in love with the outback, but when I do get it, I am going to be putting Cooper tires on mine... love Cooper tires.... in my opinion, the best tires on the market, even better than Michelin and less money to boot

That sounds like a fun plan! I actually have a video of a 2025 Premium, it’s the first trim of the 2025s that I’ve done and in Crimson red which is a nice color. I’m not sure when I’ll make it public from my private/membership program right now, but likely within a few weeks. Thank you for the tire recommendation and for watching! 🙂

The snow is not the problem. The problem is the temperature. Under -10C (14F), the compound of the all season tire gets stiff, like plastic, no matter the tread pattern. And it does not react properly on cold surface like ice, pack snow, etc. If you live in a place that have a faily amount of snow but not that cold, all season tires will do it. But If it's cold.... stick to dedicated winter tires.

Do they salt there??? Upstate NY uses tons of salt in snow like this.

Yeah, they do. But only once there’s snow on the ground. So only a few drives a year does a lot get caked onto your car. Thanks for watching from across the country!

I’m in northern Illinois. My winter driving since March 2017 has been in a rear wheel drive Chevy SS. Needless to say I have a dedicated set of winter tires on from late November to mid March. I’ve had no issues even on unplowed rural roads. Since our twin daughters will start driving this summer I’ve been shopping for something we can all drive. I’ve got it down to either an Outback Touring XT or a Forester Touring. The only question now is turbo or NA.

@wildbill23c10 ай бұрын
I think for a family the Outback might be better as it has a little more room than the Forester....but I've never owned a Subaru so I can't give much advice on that aspect....the thing with me is I'd rather not have the turbo nonsense as I can't afford to buy a new car every few years to keep up with a warranty due to mechanical breakdowns that'll occur with all that nonsense turbo crap.....so I'd have to stick with a Forester, but for me it wouldn't be an issue as I don't have to haul anyone around....I just can't afford car payments so I drive old stuff.

Avid GTs on my 2024 Outback have horrible traction in only a few inches of snow and also poor traction on just wet surfaces. Had to replace them at 5000 miles just to get through the winter.

With traction control on I would cruise at 40 mph in the snow on the expressways of NY with the proper snow and all weather tires. For 17 years I have driven as a professional commercial driver. Symmetrical All Wheel Drive will not let you go but so far if you come off the gas!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂 I have to laugh!!! I remember when they shut down the Long Island Expressway in 2013 because of a snow storm! I drove from Staten Island New York to The Hamptons in Long Island a distance of some 95 miles. I wasn't even supposed to be on the highway and I every car I came past was stuck. When the Suffolk County Sheriff finally stopped me when I was getting off at my exit he stated to me that I wasn't supposed to be on the highway. But I told him the distance that I had driven from the city of New York all the way out to the east end of Long Island. The look on his partners face was priceless!!! He looked at me with amazement as if i were a Superhero!!!! Needless to say, it only 13 miles to go to my house, so they let me go home!!! I don't think I would have ever made it home if I wasn't in the Subaru!!!! I thank God for that!¡!

Pulled out off the edge Tacoma using Crosstrek with stock tires. We have road called Ski Mountain Rd in Gatlinburg. During snowy weekend I intentionally drove up to the top of mountain to see if Crosstrek can get stuck. Came across Toyota Tacoma full of tourists on the edge of road about to go off the cliff, so I offered a try , the driver looked and said with this little car? so we put a rope and Crosstrek went up snow packed driveway with good incline and in seconds Tacoma was straightened and driver said - I should buy one of those cars, is it a Subaru? I said yes.

Great review, if I can give my penny into this vlog, I use Scandinavian tires from Finnland, brand Nokian WR G4-SUV, they are real all season tires, several yrs in raw winners, build from special couchuk, which are oposite reaction to temp. Then another brand, they soft in low temp and hard in high, they are asymetrical to keep us more easy on the road in heavy rain, they got ice provider, not sticky to snow, strong even for high speed/sticker says safe to 205 KM/hr/ you can get them in walmart/ online/ I had the set in my subbys abt 4 time n in RX350, my wife run on 3rd set, God bless all of you, drive safe like me, I just did on my new”24 winderness first 1700 miles/ its my subby no 4 in total over 470k miles combine
