Great review. Now imagine it with 390whp/415ft-lbs, 6700rpm redline, intake/BOV noise, 35% shorter shifts, and a tasteful growl from the Cobb exhaust. That’s what I’ve done to my ‘22 Premium and it’s a downright excellent driving experience. Total cost $31k for the new car and $4k in mods. It does 0-60 in 3.5s! Just bonkers value. Edit 8 months later: My ‘22 WRX is at 25k miles now. I drive it like a WRX every day of the week. It hasn’t had a single issue, not even a small hiccup in performance or reliability, and there’s already people with >70k miles at this power level with zero issues. The FA24 is the truth.

One thing I like about the controversial looks, and hate for lack of STI, is that it makes the WRX underrated. I drove my friend's 23 base, and it was such a mature lovely car. It feels a bit "older" than other new cars in a good way. The powerband is so linear, I was very impressed, after driving the GR Corolla where it felt a little peaky, and jerky on and off throttle. Videos show this WRX passing the previous STI in a roll, and the engine is understressed in the VB. This car punches way above its weight, just wish it was a hatch :)

This video and Savagegeese's videos on the TR have convinced me that my next car after I want to move on from my black '20 WRX w/PP will be a TR. It does a better job of blending performance, fun, comfort, and year round utility than its competitors However, $43k is just too much when you consider the MSRP of a GRC Premium, the Type R, or the Golf R. In reality, though, there's no mark ups or waiting lists with WRX's, and Subaru even takes orders. I MIGHT be able to find a GRC at MSRP, I'd be lucky to get a Type R for $5k ADM, and the Golf R is impossible to find (and the 6MT is dead in '25). I'm sure I'll be able to find a TR sitting on a lot in 2025 and get it for 10% under MSRP. That's what makes the WRX the choice among its competitors. Kept stock (or close to it), these FA series motors are reliable, and the WRX just gets the job done in all conditions. It's a car that continues to be misunderstood - it is greater than the sum of its parts.

the 2.4L displacement should give enough torque but in the video it doesn't seem so torquey. I have a 2010 mazda and a 2006 wrx. this car is like in the between. i feel like you need to rev it up there to get it moving. my 2.5L with 4.44 gearing doesnt take much to get moving. but everything else looks very comfy, daily. mpg friendly.

Assuming you can get the both cars at MSRP, would you take this over a Golf R, given the pricing of the TR is so close?

I currently have a mk8 golf r (manual) and a 2018 STI. Considering going back to one car…. How do u think the driving experience is of the TR vs the Golf R?

I had 2 VA STI's before getting my 23' base WRX so I can give my honest opinion. The only thing I miss about the STI is the sound. I love my VB so much

nice watch. nice S car! So they have the longevity of the Toyotas?

I do believe the 22 WRX has great potential. Now that I see this 24 WRX TR I can see it being even better and I'm quite impressed. It looks like a joy to drive. I can't get behind the interior, that big screen is too much. Previous Gen (VA) Just looks the best and is the best out of all the Gen previous and current. No I would still take an VA Wrx STI over the VB WRX. Good video bud

@TheTopher How does this compare to the MK8 Golf R in terms of driving dynamics? does the Golf R give more feeling of rear end rotation compared to this? for driving fun would you choose this over a Golf R or vise versa?

aren't those brakes pretty expensive? i would say if so the seats plus the brakes kinda make it worth it. plus the re sale is probably better too.

7:05 Steering response 9:30 Braking 10:55 Economy oriented 12:00 3400+ lbs 14:30 Better than previous gen STI 16:30 Seats NOT the most comfortable Topher should cover ‘weight distribution’ from now on. A Civic Si seems to be a better buy…has more cabin space, better looks, lighter and a nicer 6MT. Will likely outlast this Subaru as well, well beyond 200k miles, and MUCH better resale value.
@tyhyhh7 ай бұрын
If you want fwd and mpg but the wrx is the better performance sedan hands down better aftermarket and awd and as far as outlasting idk 1.5t is like hondas worst motor ever and the 2.4t is probably subarus best motor I'd take the wrx for long term reliability this isn't a 2008 ej motor my guy
@SethKnows7 ай бұрын
Civic SI isn't really in the same category and isn't a suitable replacement.
@oaguirre0137 ай бұрын
Don’t the 1.5t engines in the Hondas have problems and oil dilution has been an issue from what I heard. The old K series SI would for sure outlast the 2.4 in the wrx
@Stevie41717 ай бұрын
@@oaguirre013I still have yet to have a single issue with my 1.5 hitting 50k HARD miles. Just take care of it and it’s fine.
@BDA05317 ай бұрын
Sorry but no. Civics SI’s are still being marked up while you can get WRX’s for MSRP easily. In terms of reliability, I’ll take the VB WRX. It’s actually manufactured in Japan, has an understressed motor bigger motor, and less electronic components to fail over long term ownership.
@Loya1ty7 ай бұрын
Brembos should be on every trim level. Just hit 600 miles on my '23 Limited and the brakes are the biggest issue imo. I'm still riding it easy while I break in the engine, and even with this mild driving the brakes just don't bite. I'd be puckering if riding hard and needing to come to a quick stop. Big brake kit is top of the list for me. Will be cheaper than buying the '24 TR lol
