I think you're really going to love Circe. Don't think of it as a Greek mythology retelling, I know it can feel like a daunting task. Think of it as a fantasy. That's what it was actually. Magical world with beautiful writing. For me, this is the year I finally read Tolkien. I've put it off for so long even though I'm damn sure I'm gonna love it... Haha
@pngn699 ай бұрын
I read Circe last year and I couldn't get into it. It was fine, I didn't hate it, but I also wasn't totally in love with it and I'm sad about that :( I think it may have been my mood, so I'm going to try to reread it again this year
@melodyk5089 ай бұрын
@pngn69 you can try the audiobook if you haven't already. And of course, not everyone will have the same opinion on every book, so it's okay if you didn't like it. I personally love reading Greek Mythology stuff because of my Percy Jackson obsession, so Circe was a great book for me. On the other hand, I didn't like Ariadne or The Penelopiad, for various different reasons pertaining to flatness of the story telling and other things. So, there's really no book that's gonna be loved by everyone... Haha.. don't worry about other's opinions.
@katieisreading9 ай бұрын
i really think i'm going to like circe as well, but you're right, thinking of it as a greek retelling is a bit daunting so i think i'll take your advice on that!! also i really hope you enjoy tolkien! i read the hobbit and lotr a few years ago and really enjoyed them, it's so fun to see some of the inspiration behind the genre :)
@themodernbookwoman9 ай бұрын
I tried Circe in 2021 and again in 2022 and both times, I couldn't get into it. THEN I picked it up again in 2023 and absolutely LOVED it. I've heard multiple people say they dnf it or couldn't get into it but I think it's phenomenal. Just don't read it unless you're in the mood for it. And I will say it feels overwhelming in the first few chapters but stick with it. It gets better and I'll eventually click!
@pngn699 ай бұрын
I have heard nothing but RAVES of that book. I read it last year and it just didn't feel like it was for me at all. But my hypothesis was that it was my mood. So I am going to attempt to reread it this year and see if my feelings changed.

omg your cat is so cute! 😍 I personally was dissapointed by Royal Assassin; as much as I enjoyed book 1, book 2 was just going nowhere for me. I DNF'd it at around 10-20% in. I want to start re-reading Daughter of smoke and bone, I read them when I was way younger and remember loving it. The second book in the Emily WIlde series is very similar to the first one, I liked it a lot, but didn't love it as much as the first one. And there will at least be a book 3, yay!

Assuming it doesn't get pushed back a third time, I'm most excited for Silverborn, the 4th book in the NeverMoor series by Jessica Townsend. I binge-read the first three books at the beginning of 2022 assuming the 4th book was going to come out in the fall. But then it got pushed back to 2023, then 2024. Of all the book series dubbed the next Harry Potter, this one truly fits the bill and is quite possibly even better. Those books reignited my love for middle grade. I never got caught up on the Stormlight books, either. I read the first two and a quarter of the third before putting them down. I have a friend who just started reading them, so we're sort of doing a buddy read in preparation for book 5 in December.

Like Shatter Me series, some Brandon Sanderson series, Funny Story by Emily Henry, HOFAS by Sarah J Maas. Yes quite a lot. Trick to enjoy reading longer book is to read them in ereader so you don't feel the book is big and long. Thats what I did when reading big long books.

I definitely want to continue reading the Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman; started it last year and so far I love it. I also want to catch up on the Wayward Children series by Seanan Mcguire. For new releases, of course the new Emily Wilde (give me more Gargoyle professor and self-centered fae), but probably I'm most excited for the sequel to "Iron Widow," which is "Heavenly Tyrant." It comes out in June, and I NEED to know what happens in it. "Iron Widow" was my #1 book of 2023, so of course I have to read the next one.
