Some people I follow have what they call a ‘pile of possibility’ instead of a TBR and just list 10 or so books that appeal to them at the moment but might change at a whim which is a good way to show books that your interested in currently without making a concrete plan. Also I loved the Will of the Many, it takes a little while to get into the world but it’s definitely worth it

I really like "pile of possibility "! It carries less expectation (and inevitable disappointment lol) than a tbr. I'm gonna call it that from now on.

Love the name as well. Others call it MBR - May be read. Same concepts. As a viewer I never hold a content creator accountable for not reading the TBR, I always see it as the books they're most excited about.

Ooh i agree i had no idea she wrote for the longest time. what would you say is the strength of the book? I'm hoping it has good character writing because i care about that most and i think elliot does too from her videos

@@bisma1352 ok so I finished it already and I can't wait for the next one! My favorite thing was how there is no good/evil character. Everyone is just doing the best they can under very shitty circumstances. The characters felt extremely real and well developed. I loved the story development. It does feel like this book is a huge setup for what is to come in the world but that does not mean it is boring. It is action packed and full of adrenaline inducing moments. I have seen some people say the start of the book was slow but honestly if you are a fantasy reader that is no different from other fantasy works and it was immersive from the get go. Lastly, i really enjoyed the plot twists and the ending scenes. My heart was ripped out! Anyways go read this ASAP! Ps. For some reason the paperback copy is a sensory experience to behold. The pages are so smooth and the edges of the book are silky and soft and I just kept petting it because of how good it felt.

I just finished a reread of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. It is one of my all time favorites, very lyrical and character driven. I love VE Schwab's works, but this one is 100% my favorite by her. So many beautiful quotes, definitely made me tear up a few times! Hope you enjoy it!

I loved Addie LaRue. Loved the themes, the premise, Cried through the last several chapters. The Will of the Many is also on my near term TBR, though probably more like February or March. In January I want to read The City of Last Chances by Adrian Tchaikovksy, The Way of Kings, which I haven't read yet (I have read Mistborn Era 1, Elantris, The Soul of the Emperor, and the first three secret project novels), and continue reading the Expanse series. I've loved all three novels in the Locked Tomb series that have been published to date, and I would suggest listening to the audiobook. The same person narrates all of them so far; she's awesome, and her voice is what I will hear any time I think about these books. Just know that they are strange, weird, and complex - all in a way I really enjoy.

I read Addie LaRue back in 2021 before I watched a lot of BookTube, so I had no idea it was hyped. I borrowed it from my library because it sounded interesting and it went back before I could finish it. I loved it so much I had to instantly buy a physical copy. I loved the writing and was very immersed in the book. So I think it's grand that you're going in without expectations. I haven't read the Darker Shades series but it is high priority for this winter season.

For 2024 I plan to start with «After Rome» by Morgan Llywelyn (set in Post-Roman Britain) and «Alv Erlingsson» by Tore Skeie (about a Norwegian 13th Century Jarl who became a Privateer and Rebel), which I had to push over from my December TBR/MBR. After that, I have «Stonehenge» by Bernard Cornwell (about the Creation of Stonehenge during the Neolithic Period), «Imperium» by Robert Harris (about the Roman Politician Cicero), «Når Landet Mørknar» (approx.: «When the Land Darkens”) by Tore Kvæven (set in the Norse Settlement of Greenland during the 13th Century, winner of the Norwegian Brage Prize for Best Norwegian Novel in 2018), «Egil Skallagrimsson» by Halvor Tjønn (about the (in-)famous 10th Century Icelandic Viking & Skald who became a Bloodsworn Enemy of the Norwegian Viking King Eirik Bloodaxe), «The Dragon Lord» by David Drake (Arthurian S&S), «The Last Light of the Sun» by Guy Gavriel Kay (Fantasy inspired by the Viking Great Heathen Army and King Alfred the Good), «Ash: A Secret History» by Mary Gentle (Alt-Historical Fiction inspired by the Mercenary Wars of the Renaissance) and the «Lyonesse» Trilogy by Jack Vance ((pre-)Arthurian Fantasy)! I also hope to get to «Augustus» by John Williams (epistolary novel about the Eponymous Roman Emperor), «Alamut» by Vladimir Bartok (about the Medieval Order of the Assassins) and «The Long Ships» by Frans Bengtson (the Classic Viking Adventure Story). I will continue with «Wise Mans Fear» by Patrick Rothfuss, the «Bernicia Chronicles» by Matthew Harffy and «Bloodsworn Saga #3» by John Gwynne. I also hope to get to the «Boudica»-series by Manda Scott, the «Gael Song»-series by Shauna Lawless and the «Horatio Hornblower»-series by CS Forester, as well as the next books by Vaughn Roycroft and our dear Professor Philip Chase!

I enjoyed Addie LaRue a LOT, perfectly hyped in my opinion. It gets a lot of hate from some romantasy readers, the pacing does lag at times, but I think it's one of those books recommended to the wrong readers and just isn't for everyone. Wouldn't classify it in the romantasy genre. Getting Will of the Many for Christmas so will be exicted to read and hear your thoughts!

I read Addie Larue last January after seeing it in one of your videos. I loved it! It was my favorite book of the year up until September when it was dethroned by ML Rio, but it’s still a closest to the top second. And it was my first by VE Schwab, so there’s that too. Obviously it’s a sentimental favorite for you to read this year😊. Happy holidays to you and your family. I think it’s very sweet of you to dog sit for your mom so she can be with her grandchildren for Christmas ❤️

Ooooh, Starling House! I just got that as an audiobook! Alix E. Harrow is AMAZING. I've read her novellas, they're so good, so I expect her novels are also fantastic. Also, it's interesting. I am kinda leaning away from TBRs a little this year myself I think, Ive been mood reading a lot more lately and just going with whatever comes in on my libby holds and it has been great, though I want to really focus on the books I actually OWN this year as well as self published books I think,. I have a copy of Starling House and I think my audio book hold is coming in so I think that may be one of my early reads this year myself so I am pretty curious as to what you think of it too!

Addie LaRue took me forever to finish but I was also pretty caught up with work at the time. At first I thought I'd have to DNF because I couldn't deal with the lyrical writing, but I got used to it eventually. It's a beautiful and interesting story, but to me more like a piece of art that you could dissect in a lot of ways than as a book, if that makes any sense. I think I'd give it a solid 3 stars if I had to give a rating. Wasn't quite for me, but definitely a worthwhile experience. Personally I wish it had more flashbacks to the different historical times and less focus on a certain someone she encounters time and again, but that just didn't seem to be what the book set out to do 😂

Hey Elliot - I just wanted to say I’ve been watching your channel for literally years at this point and I trust and value your opinion just as much as anyone else on booktube. I also admire all of your consistency, hard work, and transparency with your audience. In short - you’re one of the best around! I was curious though, is there a reason you don’t interact more with some of the other booktubers in the fantasy space? You name drop them sometimes but I’m seeing these collaborative videos from them, especially with some of these end of the year lists, and I’m always so surprised that you’re not included. Just curious! Hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season and I’m excited to see what you do in 2024 😊

I don’t read horror at all and thought How to Sell A Haunted House thinking it was going to be mostly funny. It was scary to me, but I did it as an audiobook so no skimming. Having said that, I’m really glad I finished it and will say I did end up liking it. I haven’t rushed out to read any other horror. But, maybe some day. I liked Addie LaRue but it does drag in some parts. Again, glad I finished it but probably a 3 1/2 for me. I’m reading the Shades of Magic trilogy by the same author now and really enjoying it.

I really love that you are what I would call a middle of the road reader. There are many female reviewers whos opinions I always habe to question because they love what I would call "Books for women". My friend reccomend books for me that I deem books for women, books heavy in romance and sex scenes to which I have tried a couple and I just really dislike them, I have tried to explain this and that theyre written mostly by women, for women and thats great but theyre not interesting to me at all yet I still get reccomended more. Luckily my wife has more middle of the road tastes like you and so I can trust her reccomendations. Just in case anyone tries to say anything bad about me, my favourite series ever is written by a woman.
