The way the author handles relationships between the characters in The Echoes Saga is one of my favourite things about it. Picked up Rise of the ranger randomly amd I was left pleasantly surprised

I red the first book in the murderbot series and I really did not like murderbot, I expected something more AI like but it was more like following the inner dialoges of a human with anxiety problems. When I stated on reddit how boring the charecter and book was I got so much hate! Lol appereantly some people really love this series for some reason

I'd recommend The Blade Itself. It is the first book of the First Law Series. If you are able to get the audio book for it, it definitely adds a lot to the story.

But Evershore was written by another author...a student of Sanderson, who will be taking over the main story going forward after Defiant. I was pleased that I didn't feel like there was a significant disparity between the voice the two authors voicing this universe.. the three novellas kind of feel like one long book, divided into three different POV perspectives.... I probably do prefer multi-POV books bring written with third person language when there are a lot of different POVs.... When it's done really well there's very little difference between the third person language on the first person language. The tenancy is for offers to zoom out away from the characters direct perspective When writing in the third person... But that doesn't necessary...

I would say that you can skip Redawn without too much of an issue other than the very end which includes the traumatic event Elliot refers to. However, anything that is relevant is summarized in Evershore. Evershore is pretty important storywise and a lot of the cytonic powers that are relevant to Defiant and Evershore will make way more sense if you’ve read Sunreach. So my take would be to read Sunreach, feel free to skip Redawn and just look up a summary of the novella if you feel like the summary in Evershore isn’t sufficient, and then read Evershore. You’ll get more out of Defiant if you’ve read those two novellas. I will say that the novellas feel more YA than the main books.

I read them first. The Half a King trilogy (Shattered Sea Trilogy) is more young adult/new adult. They are also a lot shorter than the First Law books. There is also no connection between the two series, so if you don't like the Shattered Sea trilogy, I would still recommend giving First Law a try.
