Rudy Fernandez and Navarro were mocked by Americans as scrubs in the NBA and so was Sergio Rodriguez who played for Spain in 2012. Miss me with that, these are players that went to the NBA, Americans mocked them for being bad, they couldn't get into the starting 5, their stats were bad and then they came back to Europe. Those are the players that almost beat the team USA in 2008 and 2012, those kinds of players are the ones that played for Serbia and Montenegro in 2002 who beat team US in 2002, that played for Greece in 2006 and for Argentina in 2004 (Serbia beat USA in 2002, Argentina beat USA in 2004, Greece beat USA in 2006). Over and over again players that the NBA sends back as "not good enough" cook the best players in the NBA in FIBA games. Also, Serbian NBA players are: Nikola Jokić, Bogdan Bogdanović, Vasilije Micić and Nikola Jović. That's arguably better than the Spanish ones from the late 2000s and 2010s. Serbia also didn't invite 2 of its NBA players (Pokuševski and Tristan Vukčević) because they viewed their Eurolegue players as BETTER than them (at least better under FIBA rules and better fitting in the team).

I'll just say this ... that 1992 team was SO good even with an injured Bird, a retired Magic and a limping Stockton that they were able to destroy the competition AND take along a waste of space like Christian Laettner for the ride. You also have to remember that the 1992 Dream Team was an advertising roster. They did not take the best team, they took the team that would draw in the most viewers.. If they had, the roster would have been: Jordan, Malone, Wilkins, Ewing, Barkley, Robinson and Pippen. To replace Bird, Magic, Stockton, Mullen and Laettner - Shaquille O'Neal, Joe Dumars, Reggie Miller, Reggie Lewis and Mark Jackson. Admittedly, the team is short on actual point guards other than Jackson. But Dumars, Pippen, Jordan, Miller and Lewis could do the job when needed. That team would have been better, but would it have brought the awe added by having Magic, Bird, Mullen and Stockton? ... Maybe not.

I agree, the NBA has the best talent in the world. BUT it is a national competition they are playing in so they are National Champs. It’s simply using the correct title. The Boston Celtics can be the best team in the world right now, but that doesn’t give them the title of World Champs. The same way that Noah Lyles right now is an Olympic Gold Medalist, he won that title although the guy he beat ran a faster time this year in another competition than Noah’s all time personal best. So the Jamaican guy might be the world’s fastest right now, but that doesn’t make him an Olympic Gold Medalist.

The current team has 7 Hall of Fame locks already. For the other 5, Edwards is a very high probability to eventually be there. Booker is already half way to 30,000 points and he's only 27 (and you really only need 25,000 points to be a lock, he'll easily get that). Bam already has enough credentials, but probably needs 4-5 more similar years and he's easily in. Only White and Haliburton are less likely and even so, White could end up having a Ginobili-type of career and get in and Haliburton's upside can get him there, too, if he can stay healthy.

Olympics MVP is an actual thing. It’s awarded by FIBA. KD literally won it in 2020.

Really is. People Really stuck on old time's. These guys today are far more athletic and conditioned way more than 96. 96 played nobody's while 24 playing real international nba players. 24 line up and bench is at an advantage

LOL! Chris Mullin was in his 50s and defeated Kevin Durant in a shooting contest. In addition, he defeated the entire Sacramento Kings team in a shooting contest, while making 14 out of 15 three-pointers with the new, almost perfectly round, computer-made basketballs. Players were shooting basketballs made of yarn and tape in the 1990s. Both videos are available on KZbin channels.

@@jessekittrell2946 Bird with a bad back, was ten times better than LeFraud. You know nothing. Basketball was a man’s sport, where you could be aggressively physical to an opponent. Like to see Lefraud go against the likes of Laimbeer, Mahorn, Maurice Lukas. LeFraud would be a bench player in the 80’s or 90’s. Reason players didn’t play 20 years like Lefraud is it was tough. As an example, Kobe and Steph’s fathers were bench players.

This match-up is the NBA equivalent of a 21-29 team playing a 44-9 team. Serbia definitely has a small chance of pulling off the upset.

If you are making comparisons you have to put all players at full strength, and who would be the coach of each team.
@cnelsonlv992 ай бұрын
Curious why you have to put all players at full strength. Bird was obviously a shell of himself because of his age and back injury... but that's what they had to work with. Fact is, he was a bench-warmer on that team, because Barkley, Drexler, Mullin, Robinson, Ewing and Malone were all in their prime.

If Bird was in his prime, it might have been enough with Mullin and Stockton. Like it would have been the bare minimum I think you need. And as a result, you'd need to play Mullin more than they probably want to.

@@Jkev24if Bird AND Magic were in their primes & Stocktons leg wasn't broke theb it would be a debate It would be like- - Lebron having been retired for a year & a shell of himself (instead of being arguably the BEST player on the team.... hes avging almost as many assists as he is shots whike shooting the best on the team lol) - KDs back being so bad he could barely run & barely playing (instead he's been arguably the 2nd best player) - & Holidays leg being broke (when he's been a KEY piece)

@@jessekittrell2946oh I know. Prime for prime I would take 1992, but if we're taking them at what each player was like for their respective year I'm taking 2024. People don't realize 2024 would just run zone and dare the 1992 team to beat them from 3. And the 2024 team does have enough size to not get bullied by 1992.
