In our first drive video of 2024 Tata Tiago iCNG AMT, we tell you all of its big positives and negatives. We mainly drove it in and around Delhi covering some regular traffic areas and hilly sections on the outskirts of Gurgaon. We basically tested the Tiago CNG AMT on three parameters - 1. is it comfortable on hilly/ghat sections or urban flyovers? 2. Is it as involving to drive as the non-CNG version of the car? 3. Is it fuel efficient - what mileage should you expect out of it?

7:10 Thank you so much 🙇 No review is showing this. This is a problem with all AMT. Hill Hold needs to come by default on AMTs. Maruti has it now for a while. No idea why Tata is sleeping 😴. The creep function has very limited use case

I have Tigor AMT since 2 years now. There is definetly a learning curve for the hill hold thing. I use handbrake and then use that to assist while climbing hill during stop and go. While many thing AMT isn't automatic, but it is convinient. Especially for the ones who drive very smoothly and dont accelerate harshly. The Tigor AMT XZA+ then costed me 8.5 on road(top model). And the features it provides are better than what other cars provided then, in this price range. I have driven 25000kms, had one big trip from pune to rajasthan and back almost 10k kms and fully loaded with passengers and luggage, the car handled it very smoothly, also suspension and the ground clearance is good, dont have to worry about any potholes.

But since it's been 2 years of your purchase, price have gone up a lot, and Honda Amaze is a better option with a better refined engine, equal safety, and one of the best CVT Transmissions available in the market. It's S CVT costs around 9,30,000 after discount and VX CVT is around same as Tigor (or even less than the price of Tigor) after discounts.

@@onesujeet there is no hill hold in tigor too, i use the handbrake judgement to make the hill hold myself 😂. But these features should come in AMT cars, because of the lack of "half clutch stop"

@@poketrivia certainly, amaze is a much better product in terms of engine and refinement. At that time the difference between the top models of both the cars was around 3 lakhs, so it was sensible to buy tigor. But with cvt there is a rubber band type effect, if you take a test drive try driving them on a hill. Because AMTs have gears the power is enough to climb any hill, with cvt i guess they provide some L1L2 levels for more torque.

@@vishalchoudhari1014 I am from Dehradun (Uttarakhand) and I have seen the government cars that were earlier Ambassadors being replaced with Amaze Automatics with them mostly travelling in hills, and technically and practically, CVTs are better as compared to AMTs in hilly terrains because AMTs gets easily overheated (in Tiago, Magnite, even Hyundai) in steep slopes, (Maruti AMTs are better than others, but still in hilly areas AMTs are heavily unreliable). AMTs are just manual transmissions with an automatic/ computerized gear system. I have never tried the Amaze CVT in hilly areas, but have seen Jazz CVT Petrol and it was very great to drive in hilly areas.

Can't understand why Tata can't offer a hill - hold assist function in a car which is close to 8 lakhs plus taxes. Why not offer it as a paid option for customers who are willing to pay the difference?? Surely this function does not cost a bomb!!!

If you're buying this for your daily commute, please consider the Tiago EV. This is close to 8 lacs, then RTO taxes and everything. EV starts at 8.5. And for that money, you get a true automatic as it runs on motors, a bigger boot space, fuel cost is almost zero, and you don't have to wait for half an hour to refill your tank. Worth considering. Own the LR Tiago EV and no regrets.

Maruti average bhai highway ki bta rha h without Ac and Tiago ki city with full time AC😂 I own both cars ye bhai jhut bol rha h khud jao or chalo vir viswas kro❤ I tell you my average experience: highway city mix and same condition for both 600₹ cng Tiago chegi 170 km k aas pas or maruti altok10 180-185 same with wagon R and on highway 200 and 230 accordingly. 60000+ experience of both brand cars😊😊

What you missed out completely was the peppiness of AMT without CNG. Would it still roll on on the ascends if there are congestions while ascending ..Any method to move it to manual on such descends

Khammagani Vikas ji, Subscribers and follower since channel started. Jab bhi Tata aapke hath me aati hai toh aap "negative" hi bolte ho. Ab tiago cng amt me bhi aapko problem hai. Cng me amt launch krna commendable and appreciable job done by tata .but fir bhi aap tata ko kabhi bhi kabhi bhi positive rakhenge hi nh. Totally Disappointed. Baki aap apna kam kr rahe hai. bhai, as a reviewer mera kaam hai negatives ko bhi highlight karna. Jo log apni mehant ki kamayi cars mein lagata hai, use poora adhikar hai sabhi positives aur negatives ko janne ka. sirf hill hold nahi hone se jo problem aa rahi hai, ek wahi negative bataya hai, baaki sab toh positive hi bola hai. Par aapko sirf negative hi dikh raha hai, kyonki aap ek preconceived notion se aaye ho. Poore video mein product ko appreciate kiya hai, ab jo drawbacks hain unhe toh nazar andaaz nahi kar sakte na. sirf positive dekhna hai toh ad hai uske liye, review mein toh sab kuch hi highlight hota hai,

Lagta hai tum tata ke liye kaam kar rahe ho. Unki PR team hai web par, sabko pata hai. Baaki yeh AMT without hill hold waala problem sabhi reviewers ne pehle bhi Magnite Kuro edition ke case mein bhi dikhaya hai. Nissan ka PR nahin hai toh unn videos pe itne tuchche comments nahin thay.

hill test can be done in the city as well. Take the car you want to test in an underground mall parking. The exit ramps are usually steep even steeper than some hill stations. I tried this when I was trying to buy a used CNG car. I immediatly knew that this car may not be good for hillstation.😄

The engine on this car is its weak spot. Its slow to respond, isn't refined, isn't too fuel efficient, and the gearbox doesn't compliment it to make things any better. Tata can't even make a great 4 pot mill so expecting engineering finesse in a 3 pot motor is a bit too far fetched. The only two things going for this vehicle is its suspension and the safety ratings. Stick to a Maruti or a Hyundai if the ride is majorly within the city limits and get this only if highway drives constitute at least 30-40% of the average monthly usage.

Mileage is better than Hyundai but a bit less than Maruti. Check out their BS6 phase 2 cars engine refinement is so much better!

@desiborat 🚩 Tata intentionally didn't make 4 cylinder engine....its tatas way of cost cutting 4 cylinder with good build quality and weight wont give good mileage.....example honda amaze, honda jazz...thats why tata opted for 3 cylinders....same did ford and vw in euro markets...thats why tata cars easily give 20kmpl mileage Maruti swift, wagon r is tin can, thats why it gives 22 23 kmpl mileage And tatas 3 cylinder is nicely refined....I suggest you to take a test ride and get the experience ..... Amt is not a good auto gearbox, on slopes you shoud definitely use handbrake, in every amt car... You shoud check that maruti wagonr 3 cylinder gives more mileage than maruti wagonr 4 cylinder ....now maruti is also bringing 3 cylinder hybrid engine in swift... 3 cylinders + hybrid =super mileage figures

@@KRaowheels I have owned both in the very recent past and say it from personal experience that Tata's 3 pot mill's mileage is much inferior to the power delivery and economy of Hyundai's current 1.2 litre 4 cylinder engine found in Nios and i20. The word refinement doesn't even exist in Tata's dictionary no let's not even go there. Tata's combination of chassis rigidity + suspension geometry and the resultant ride quality is definitely best in class but other than that, there is nothing really going for this car.

@@anishmitra6296I have owned the Tiago so I know that much of what you've quoted is absolutely untrue. Weight doesn't translate to stiffness or safety; the metallurgy, chassis design & engineering does. A Tiago or Tigor would not exceed 15-16 kmpl in real city conditions and the figures dwindle down further significantly under full loads owing to very weak bottom end torque. The gearbox is absolutely rubbish and belongs to a car from mid 90s. MSIL's small engines + gearboxes are class leading in all ways and Tatas can't even come close. Their safety ratings are an absolute garbage and hence, people using their cars for highway drives more frequently should strictly avoid them at all costs.

Yahi toh AMTs ki problems hain mainly Tata & Nissan Cars me. Hill traffic me aapko manually shift karna padega gear and brake ka use karna padega, because hill hold assist feature gayab hai.

That's not good driving technique. Besides, suppose there's slow traffic ahead. Why'd you want to floor the pedal? Sometimes margins are small.

It has no clutch so any one can have one foot on brake another on accelerator in hills ... wats the need of hill hold

Hill hold is essential as it prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards on hilly roads. Machines & technology are introduced to reduce human efforts. Hence, if hill hold would have been there, there would have been no need of manual braking.

I have personally tested the same engine in Punch with AMT with 3 people and AC on. On a very steep incline out of basement parking. Even that didn't have any issue in stopping and moving in between the ramp. The low end torque is sufficient to pull the car unlike in Maruti 1litre K series which suffer clutch juddering, which I faced in my Spresso which weighs 250kg less than Tiago!

But you're comparing a 1200 cc 3-cyl with a 999-cc 3-cyl not a 1200 cc 4-cyl rival. Punch is priced at a segment above S-Presso. It competes with Ignis and Exter, two 4-cylinder cars that have much better lower end torque. There may be a difference between Punch and S-Presso, even if we weight correction is made, adding to the fact that cars in higher segments are also tuned better as there's more of a torque band to play with. But S-Presso is a car favoured by hill people today (watch Biturbo Media's video on that) because it climbs hills very well, just like an Alto, so I think driving skills also come into the picture.

@@kunalsen2123 Tata uses the same engine in Tiago as in Punch, Altroz. My comment on Spresso was specifically for the AMT version.

@@KRaowheels still a 1200 Revotron on all though, not 999. Besides, Vikas' test results are shown live and show the Tiago strugging to get going from a standstill position on the AMT--CNG combo, so maybe your incline's lesser or the power loss due to CNG is substantial or both.

@@kunalsen2123 Unfortunately I didn't take a video at that time but I tested on a very steep basement ramp with 3 people and AC. Even in Vikas's video if had pressed the accelerator the car would have taken off easily. Tiago with 1.2 litre engine sells for the same price as Celerio/Wagon r 1.0 .

@@KRaowheels price is no indication of engine tuning. Also "very steep" is subjective unless you can mention it in degrees terms. Yes, the car would have taken off with A pedal input, but the point is once you switch from B to A there'd likely be the tiniest of backrolls, unless you take your time and use the handbrake to get to the biting point before the switch, and that little bit of backroll/manual parking brake intervention isn't expected of an automatic. Hill hold should've been given with this. TaMO has miised a trick no matter how anyone says it's doesn't matter.

I'm not tata fanboy or anything but I have seen that you and gagan has something against the brand..... because you'll always highlight only bad things about it....nobody has done dual cylinder nor cng automatic still you didn't praise them.... But talk about finesse we all know they have improved alot..... For your kind information, jab ye auto hold or hill hold nahi tha tab kya gadi nahi chalti thi. Apko gadi handbreak ke sath use karni ani chahiye. Jyada negativity bhi nhi honi chahiye insaan me

To test if it assists. Accelerator daba kar toh of course ek baar mein koi bhi nikaal lega agar slope pe koi nahi ho. Par traffic se bhare flyover ya hills mein aapke paas wo option nahi hota, uske liye baar baar brakes lagane padte hain aur wahi test kiya hai ki kya kam slope mein toh creep function kaam kar raha hai ya nahi. Handbrake aur acceleration se toh aap manual hi chadha lo, AMT ki jarurat hi nahi.

​@ads7506 are yar creep ek function hai. Wo hi assist karega na. To slopes pe hill hold ka kam kar sakta hai creep agar sahi se tune kiya jaye. To traffic me easy ho jata hai flyover pe.

as Auchtiya mentioned, a creep function also assists in such conditions. And the idea was to test its capabilities in slopes, it wasn't a steep slope to be honest.

@@ICN I have tested in Punch with 3 people and very steep slope and with AC on. The rolled back if relying solely on creep but giving accelerator input immediately the car climbed without any hesitation or jerk. Punch i drove has the same engine as in Tiago but not with CNG.

Bhai companies use high standards of material for cng fitting to avoid this… but previous when cng is not offered by companies people used to fit cng from outside ik there are so many expert are there for fit CNG but we can’t say about the quality of the kit and some case in fitment

Very biased and unpractical review…sad to see unprofessional approach ..from the word go it was looking like this review was meant to do more of an injustice to the car …you should look at the market this car is targeting and does it fulfill the criteria it was aiming at …checking the car on steep climb without hill assist function clearly reflected the intention… on should appreciate the hard word Indian brands are putting in and by no means it is easy to fix Cng amt with petrol …I dare even maruti will find it extremely tough to do this…nothing personal but expect honest reviews

@@manifest8548 price-sensitive customers usually have just the one car for all purposes. If tomorrow, they want to take it to the hills or ghats, they must know the possible problems before hand. They have the option of manual cars too. Tata itself is marketing this car as an allrounder, fuel efficient and convenient. So this kind of analysis is needed. This is to do with basic mechanics, not some good-to-have features like infotainment etc.

Vikas does this test with every AMT. The intention is you're paying extra for the convenience by choosing AMT over manual, but if you have to use the handbrake on the flyovers, then what's the point?
