I remember driving a rented 2005 Sequoia from Detroit to Chicago and back. Both ways, I still had a quarter tank gas left at the end of each trip and the drive was HEAVENLY. That's the only drive I remember because of how memorable the drive was in terms of smoothness/comfort and gas mileage - maybe because it was new lol.

Kirk, Thanks for this very germane mpg test of the basic Land Cruiser 1958 you borrowed from Germaine Toyota of Naples. 😁 I hope someday soon Toyota comes out with a 1957 Edition with a manual transmission and 2TR-FE engine.🤩🤩

But what scares me of doing that is if there’s any engine issues and the Toyota dealer found out that you weren’t putting in premium fuel and if they don’t feel like fixing it, they can say you didn’t follow the owners manual so it’s not covered under warranty , but Toyota really needs to make the Land Cruiser take regular at least as an option and not require premium which I still don’t understand why they did that because the Tacoma has the same engine and takes regular. Also, don’t think they’re gonna make the new 4runner take premium. People are not gonna be very happy if that is the case even more than the land cruiser so they really need to change that so the four-cylinder turbo across-the-board takes regular

Why do some of you who review vehicles on YT talk about highway fuel economy when you don’t take the time to drive consistently for that portion by setting cruise at +5MPH and going 50-100 miles like the guys at DailyMotor? I get it that Florida traffic drives 80-85MPH, but 75MPH on the highway has less of an impact on MPG across vehicle types/shapes than does 80 or 85MPH.

Considering how heavy this vehicle is - 22 is not surprising. Remember that this vehicle is *not* designed to be a family-hauler SUV, but a true utility vehicle. Toyota engineers likely went with the old V8 as a baseline and looked to improve from there in its performance, economy and utility - which as you demonstrate, this vehicle succeeds in all aspects. You will spend $2-3K in gasoline per year with this beast - but think of all the cool lifestyle things you can do with it!

Hmm, comparing GX550 to this, at 17mpg vs 22mpg, so 5mpg fuel savings, assuming gas is $5/gallon (I live in California), assuming 10,000 miles per year, that's going to save about $670/year in fuel savings or about $55/month. If you drive 5,000 miles/year you can cut that in half. The GX would be faster and tow more of course.
