I have that same 4Runner from the '22 model year. I'd still go 4Runner between the two. You're getting a TRD Pro for the same money as a base trim baby LC. The 4R has a nice simple engine that will last forever, the whole vehicle has proven reliability and resale value, the 4R has a pet friendly rear window that goes down, softex seats vs cloth, I even think the 4R has a nicer looking interior.

@@andyleo8418 I tend to agree. I believe Toyota's twin turbo tech has been around since '95 and the most recent 3.5L iteration came out in '18 with the LS so not entirely unproven. And we can't forget that these new engine and EVs (which are a joke) are all pushed onto the public by govt. I also believe, Toyota's hybrid tech is hand down the best approach today. @@chadthecreative I do really appreciate the ergonomics of my forerunner. The only thing that I don't like is that the driver door armrest is either too high or too low, depending on where you put the seat. Mine are great. I like all the other controls. The thing I find interesting about it is that most of the interior plastics feel relatively cheap, but they also feel screwed together very well. Almost 170k on mine and essentially no squeaks or rattles.

I don't really buy the whole "It's half the price of the old one" since this is the 250, which is the follow up to the 150- not the 300, which is the follow up to the 200. Considering that the 4Runner shares a lot in common with the old 150 (much of the interior is identical, and the engine was used in Prados for years), this looks like a pretty big price increase disguised as a price cut in the North American market. Heck, you can't even get a third row in the new 250- something the Prado / 4Runner have offered for years. I guess we'll see where everything lands after the new 4Runner is announced, but I can't help but wonder if that won't just be based on the Fortuner. Fitting, given the relationship it has to the Hilux, and the 4Runner's Hilux Surf origins.

This was obviously very purposeful given the tandem launch of the Lexus GX. So now you have 3 LC and 6 GX models...and that doesn't even consider the 2 GX Hybrids that land in the US next year. I think Toyota has done a great job relaunching the LC/GX and provides plenty of optionality. Plus, a loaded GX increased in price by ~$10K but is still $20K cheaper than the old LC.

If the LC & new 4runner have the same engine, I'd buy the LC. If the upcoming 4runner is all motor, then 4runner is gonna be joining to my TRD trucks.

Everybody keeps talking about that 55k price tag. However the builder app on toyota's site pushed it over with few changes. Which means that once it hits dealership lots the base will be well over 60k.

I am glad my desire for the 4Runner waned when I stopped watching 4Runner KZbin videos. I bought an Outback and never looked back. I am patiently waiting 4 years to see what will come out.

An Outback Wilderness with a sunroof is $42k and you are in 4R territory. For $5k more, there is the 4R Offroad Premium. Better gas mileage sure, but so much more offroad with the 4R, or even a Tacoma for less.

@@protectork9831 For reference Toyota has 3 classes of Land Cruisers. The light duty, midsized (LC Prado), the medium duty, fullsize (LC 300 Series, which replaced the 200 Series), and the heavy duty fullsize (LC 70 Series). Toyota took away the medium duty fullsized Land Cruiser from US and is instead giving America the cheaper light duty midsized LC. Half the vehicle, hence half the cost. It made sens to me lol

Exactly. That’s not the LC everyone has grown to love and miss. It’s clearly a shell of the old one

I'm a Toyota guy. I'm keeping my FJ and replacing the wife's MDX. As someone who's always wanted a Land Cruiser but has hated the styling for the past 3 decades and also someone who balks at 93k for a car. Well, with this more 80's styling and a lower price point we're considering ordering one from the factory. Though this will be my first time so good knows what that process is like.

You guys made the wrong call. Yes, the 4Runner is ancient but it has proved itself. The Land Cruiser is first generation and I wouldn't buy any first gen vehicle. Having said that, it is really depends what is the purpose and the duration of ownership. If you expect to hold the vehicle for many years, again, the 4Runner is the one to go for, however, if you buy it for three years or less, the Land Cruiser is not a bad choice.

I would hope they have one at the show. I have been disappointed with the Portland and Seattle auto shows the last couple of years. Most auto makers don't even bother bringing upcoming models or sometime even the newest models that have been out. The Land Cruiser TRD will probably be down the pipeline after the Initial Lexus GX overlanded sell their run. Heck they don't even have the floor plan out and its two weeks away! I hope it due to an influx of vendors coming in at the last minute.

What i love on my 16 is the Smode driving it. Only those that say its slow never learned the capabilities of the truck when you clearly shift your gears longer and get a quicker throttle response. Just like the ones that bought automatic sports cars saying that they were slow.😂

You two are staying busy! Is that "$55k" official now, or still just "mid 50s"? I'm seriously digging this simplest 1958 trim. The small screen in this must about the same as the screen in the Blueberry Tacoma, which seems totally adequate. Hopefully Toyota blesses the Landcruiser with enough GVWR to leave useful payload.

This is something I don't think people appreciate enough. Think about the fact that the 4Runner has been practically unchanged since 2010. There are hundreds of thousands of these vehicles and all with the same engine, transmission, axles, etc. For people who buy used vehicles, these are a gold mine. For the next thirty years, there will be nearly an unlimited supply of parts for these things. I'm talking about body, frame, drivetrain stuff that will no longer be offered by Toyota or even aftermarket. Used OE parts will be available for many years. You can swap so many things between the model years it'll be a vehicle that can be repaired or refreshed. Just think, someone already wore out the seats in their 2010 SR5, go find a set of used seats from a 2020 model that's been totalled if they aren't damaged. That's just an example. But people are missing the value of a vehicle that's been in production for 14 years almost unchanged. When my wife and I eventually buy a 5th gen 4Runner to replace daily use of our 2003 4th gen, we plan to keep it going as long as possible. There should never be a shortage of 5th gen 4Runner parts thanks to the long production run of them. Toyota made the right decision keeping the model the same all these years. Honestly, I think they should keep it around at least one more year and let it hit 15 years unchanged. 😂

@@toyotas4ever there are stories of people with newer vehicles that have had to wait many months for parts. Take a model like the current venza, discontinued and a short model run what will parts availability be like on that vehicle?
