@jeansandmyshirt History doesn't dictate the future. Toyota took a gamble in 2022 trying to compete with the Jones and it paid the price with their defective V6TT technology on their heavy duty vehicles. Their bread and butter are cars. So stick to cars. Their last bullet proof vehicles were 4.7L LC100 and the V8 LS430 made of iron cast material. Everything post 08 made of aluminum and as of 2020s they using 4-6 cylinder engines on bigger/heavier vehicles and taking short cuts utilizing plastic parts. Nissan also made heavy duty trucks foe US military,etc in 1950s just like Toyota. Are just as reliable (ones Made in Japan), have better performance engines, etc. Owned nothing but toyotas and Nissan products past 20 years. Now I'm adding American cars to the ownership experience. Still have 21 LX570 (last reliable Japanese made Toyota heavy duty product) and waiting on 25 armada pro 4x (which is engineered to be better than LC300 that we don't even get in the states). When it comes to cars, Toyota still the king with that baby prius made in Japan. Lexus also going down hill since they are starting to make cars in U.S. If you want US quality product, get a Texas made GM product like a Suburban/Escalade. But American Made Lexus (such as TX model) is NOT Toyota version of a reliable suv. 🤷♂️

There’s a few things to correct on the LC that a lot of people don’t realize. And other Toyotas. MTS is a selling gimmick. It’s not needed if you know how to drive. The important setting on any LC is the Crawl Control. The first time you see this system dig you out of axle deep sand you’ll be amazed. After that the 1958 comes with a “Start in 2nd” button. Anyone who knows how to drive knows this will be as good as MTS almost any time. Next is the sway bar disconnect. It’s only 1 axle and it’s only 10%. It’s another sales gimmick on the LC and simply gives you a new electronic system to fix. For the number of times that 10% on one axle saves you…. Save 12,000. Want a system that is worth it, get the LX550. The important part of the LC is the things you don’t see. Steel drive shafts are an example. The LC is 300lbs heavier than a new Forerunner TRD Pro. There is a lot of extra steel in there. That steel drive shaft…. Not on any Tacoma or Forerunner. That’s just one example. And I bet it’s not on the Sequoia in this video either. I carefully looked into the Tacoma and LC before I bought. The LC is just built better. The plastic is solid. Not wiggly and squeaky. It feels like it will not break. But after a lot of comparisons…. The 1958 LC is the gem. Save 12,000 bucks, get everything you need and not a lot of electronic to fix later. And that eye monitoring system that police are starting to get warrants to see if your eyes were on the road (distracted) or sleeping…. Isn’t on the 1958. Keep that in mind.

Great review of two appealing and capable vehicles. We really wanted to purchase the Land Cruiser because of its smaller size and overall refinement. However, because of a planned road trip to Alaska via the Alcan Highway we need more towing capacity for an Airstream. Also, unfortunately the Land Cruiser requires premium fuel which is not guaranteed to be available up there. Those two factors caused us to buy a 2025 Sequoia TRD Pro, which isn’t but two weeks old. Love it so far as it is truly a beast with all that HP, torque and over 9000 lbs of towing capacity. Our biggest gripe was the artificial piped-in engine noise which was successfully shut off by way of an OBD 2 port setting called Engine Sound Enhancement (“ESE” I believe). Thanks again!

If you don’t like it buy a bus and if you want a dog crate and 2-3 or more kids GO GET A BUS!!!!. The new armada doesn’t even have a complete flat cargo area due to headrests what then???? V6 turbo outperforms majority of V8 and the drive is beast and beautiful for a SPORT ride. It’s not meant to be luxurious so get off the nuts on that too. And the ride is for the family and wife so no I won’t be taking her mudding but if I did I do agree it could use a 3 inch lift for clearance…… something the armada did amazing work on. Not bashing armada is a beautiful ride just tired of all the sequoia hate. If it’s not for you move on. Second ride is a Silverado and to this day we have only used it for large furniture. Storage has been plenty fine in the Sequoia. Price is for sure steep , we were just fortunate and blessed to buy one. May all your rides drive and last long regardless of it’s brand folks 😊

Good point, considering that Toyota considered killing the Sequoia and its somewhat of a passion project of Toyota’s American team. I had to go back and confirm it, but the US team approached the board to change their mind, and convinced them they could build the SUV along side the Tundra “cheaply”. I think it has its place, but that translates to compromises. Realistically, it does what 99% of SUVs in the US actually do just fine. It “mall crawls” with the best of them and looks pretty good doing it. I think price will be its biggest issue with most consumers in the full-size market.
@wilson32465 ай бұрын
@@Dogsport1 This is very much the likely explanation. The Sequoia is a NA only vehicle and it doesn't sell in large numbers like the Tacoma or 4Runner does. It's likely the higher ups wanted to kill off the Sequoia but was convinced by the NA truck team to keep it but was given a very limited budget hence why they didn't have much resources to figure out a better location for the battery and having to reuse a solid axle like the Tundra rather than designing an IRS set up like on the 2nd Gen.

The constant beeping in the Sequoia and Land Cruiser is definitely over the top-especially when off-roading or just driving around town. It feels like Toyota assumes we’re all beginners who need constant reminders, which takes away from the driving experience. A little trust in the driver’s abilities would go a long way. Hoping they dial it back in future models! My third gen Tacoma wasn’t nearly as bad as these newer models. My FJ Cruiser was a blessing compared to this nonsense of so called safety features. I also have a Toyota Corolla Hybrid and God forbid you attempt to back up with the door open or don’t put your seat belt on. The sensors even at their lowest setting is too much.

Personally I like the Land Cruiser I think the interior looks to have a better fit and finish. Most importantly I don't think you could have done the Alpine Lake trip with that Sequoia you probably could have but with major paint damage.

Yeah, it was too big and that wheel base would have caused major issues for some of the obstacles.

What wheel is that on the LC? I know you said it was a Toyota option wheel, but do you have any part # or any other info about it? Thanks!
@drivingsports5 ай бұрын
I haven’t been able to find a part number for it. Even the sales slip from the dealer has part number “wheel”. 😂

The cargo area is really messed up in the Sequoia, borderline useless, even for grocery shopping.

Does Toyota say why they offer part time and full time 4x4 systems? Is one objectively better than the other?

It was suggested by an engineer that the new V6/Hybrid in the Sequoia has too much torque for a reliable Torsen system.
@masonthomas96715 ай бұрын
@@drivingsportsI guess that would explain why the GX has the turbo charged V6 base engine and full time 4wd in the non hybrid but the hybrid version is supposed to be the same 4cylinder as your Land Cruiser. Somewhere between the 479lbs of the base v6 and 585lbs on the v6 I force max is the cutoff for the torsion center diff.

@@drivingsports which engineer? The LX700h has the same V6 hybrid setup as the Sequoia and it has full time 4WD.
