Dragging mom, dad, wife and little kids into an off-roading adventure is very Griswold-esque, to say nothing of driving his family from San Diego to New England and back once a year. Usually being a dad to very little kids means you don't have time to offroad like you used to, but Doug hasn't come to that realization yet. The burden of parking this beast in small spots, and getting kids in and out of doors that swing outwards will take a toll within a matter of minutes. He will be buying a minivan within several months - mark my words.

You're referencing the Countach video from a few days ago where at 14:04 I say "People ask me what I'm buying next, but I am not planning anything else to my cars." You quoted that part. You left off the very next sentence, literally the very next words, which are "I have a new daily driver coming." That's this car. I specifically mentioned it's coming. In fact, I had already bought it when I recorded that video, which is why I mentioned it. And yet you have 1,000 likes and people criticizing me in the comments for lying to my audience! I just bought a white Tacoma and have owned more Toyotas than anything else over the years and Toyota has never failed me. We traded in our 2008 Highlander with almost 300K miles for the Tacoma because we're at a later change in life. Our son is an adult and our daughter is driving her own car, we really don't need a third row... or even the second much, but we like hauling kayaks and stuff. As life goes, your needs change and I think you made the right choice for this stage in life. When it comes to reliability, Toyota remains the best choice.

@splkzyy
@splkzyy Ай бұрын
sequoia gets comfier when it’s fully loaded. because of how heavy it tows, the suspension is significantly stiffer to take on the the heavy weight. so when it’s under pressure is where it really settles in and becomes comfy. also the TRD PRO has stiffer side walls and off-road tires generally make a car feel slightly stiffer. if you are looking for comfort you should probably try the limited or platinum with no more than 20” wheels. it’s the way to go. also, the trd pros need at least 3000 miles till the suspension gets run in and gives you its max comfort

While I think the new Sequoia does many things well it lacks things for the price. I am referring to the Capstone trim level. The seats are too stiff, I felt like I was sitting on bleachers. The lack of a folding flat 3rd row is unacceptable when everyone else can do it. The hood is flimsy and flexes when you drive in a decent wind. Very sharp vehicle, I was let down when I actually saw it and drove it over 150 miles.

You made a great choice ! I wanted one so bad but ultimately settled on a new Suburban high Country Deluxe last year. We had the similar requirements but we also tow a rv and wanted range while towing and the duramax delivered that on top of that we are a large family of 8 and frankly need the long wheel base. In 2025 we will finally be able to get a z71 with the duramax. Might be a better option for both of us then. Super cruise air ride suspension over 700 miles of range is fantastic

I'm surprised he didn't consider the Lexus GX. It's essentially a Toyota, three rows, arguably looks better, has a better interior, and not too far off in size to the last gen full-size Land Cruiser Doug just sold. I also suspect it will retain more of its value than a Sequoia over time as well.

The new GX doesn't offer any of its off-road hardware (MTS, crawl, etc) with three-row seating. I needed both three rows AND as much off-road capability as I could get, so the GX was eliminated. Bad product planning decision from Lexus. (After driving the new GX I'm especially confident in my decision -- the third row is tiny and frankly the ride quality isn't much better than the Sequoia's.)

I think Doug has a point. The TRD Pro has the hardware that some of us want/need, but it also features styling elements that don’t really work for some guys over a certain age. The TRD Off Road package in the 4Runner has all the TRD Pro hardware that you need but without the Fox shocks or the gaudy styling touches. The TRD OR 4Runner is extremely capable off road but features more subtle styling than the TRD Pro. That is sort of the theme for the previous generation Land Cruiser in some ways. Maybe Toyota should improve the native off road capability of the Sequoia (which is frankly disappointing off road) and offer the TRD OR package on the Capstone. Then there would be a legitimate replacement for the old full sized Land Cruiser for people that didn’t want the Lexus LX.

I drove a 23 Tundra for a couple weeks last year and absolutely loved it. That Toyota 14" infotainment was a treat to use, worked very well for me. Loved the torque of the powertrain, especially on the highway. Was clearly much more refined than my 2013 Tundra. I prefer the V8 for regular driving and the space of the last gen Tundra/Sequoia but the newer features were very nice. It's a damn shame they left the roll down rear window off the Sequoia. These SUVs look killer when you add the Wescott Designs leveling kit and some bigger tires/wheels. Toyota rarely wows with standard features and point by point reviews, because they just don't care about them. They're giving you a product that is comparable with it's peers that is going to cost less to own and be reliable. Never the sexiest choice but often the right choice...
