While the trucks other the Ridgelines were all very capable and were traditional “real trucks”, the Ridgeline was a great truck and was excellent at hauling all sorts of things in the bed. Granted, while it’s not going to tow a large boat or a big RV, it will do everything else that you need a truck to do. In my humble opinion, the Ridgeline is definitely a real truck.

I do like the Tacoma, but I still consider the Ridgeline the best mid-size truck, even though it's the oldest in its class. If money weren't an issue, my top choice would be the Ranger Raptor, followed by the ZR2 (excluding the Bison due to its high price, despite my earlier comment about cost not being a factor). The Tacoma is a good-looking truck with a large following, but its competitors have made significant strides.
@kurthanushek55205 ай бұрын
I don't want any midsize truck. I want a small truck with a real bed. If they took out the back seat, they could do it with the Maverick. Without making it too much longer they could give it an 8' bed or shorten it and give it a 6' bed that I view as standard.

The Honda Ridgeline is a very solid choice. We have a current generation model in the family and it does most everything a truck needs to do. The Tacoma lacks a full-time/auto 4WD setting on almost all trims, which is not ideal when driving in inclement weather. Ridgeline is a better on-road driver too. The V6 in the Ridgeline is smooth, refined and quiet. The Tacoma cabin always felt cramped. The Ridgeline cabin is wide and roomy in comparison. The only reason I could see going with the Tacoma is if you needed more off-road capability or slightly higher tow capacity, or just really like the feel of a traditional body on frame pickup. Looking forward to see what Honda does with the Ridgeline in a few years when it gets refreshed.

I really like the Ridgeline, but am reluctant to buy a vehicle with variable cylinder management whic still has some potential issues as mileage climbs. I am wary of that as I would want to keep it at least 15 to 18 years. Plus the timing belt seem antiquated and is expensive to replace.

I am angered by Toyota's departure of JDM taillight standards. A big reason I stayed with Japanese cars (other than quality build and reliability) was having turn signals separate from the brake lights. Now with all the Toyota trucks, they have combined brake lights with the turn signals. The use of LEDs should have improved that design, not eliminate it.

In 2010 I bought a 2011 Toyota Tacoma V6 access cab 4x4 with the TRD Off-Road package. With a couple of other add ons (floor mats, drl’s) MSRP was $30,400. I know prices on vehicles have gone up over the years but it still blows my mind when I see just how much they have increased. With that out of the way, my truck now has just over 140,000 miles on the odometer. With the exception of an AC system repair that needed to be done early in my ownership, this truck has performed flawlessly. Also, you guys (and other reviewers) always talk about how poor the driving position is in Tacoma’s, I have had zero problems with it. At 5’11”, maybe it was built exactly for a person of my size. And, I’m glad Mike Quincy brought it up, it is a truck. It drives/handles exactly how I would expect it should. My only complaint would be with the Tacoma is it’s rather horrendous gas mileage. I average about 16-17 MPG when friends with full-sized V8 powered trucks, get better mileage. Still, for all the other earlier reasons, if I were in the market for a mid-sized truck today, the new Tacoma would be at the top of my list.

Regarding the price increases in the 14 years since you bought your 2011 Tacoma, according to the inflation calculator at DollarTimes, "Adjusted for inflation, $30,400 in 2010 is equal to $43,182 in 2024". Because of the current CrowdStrike outage issue, I can't build a 2024 Tacoma TRD on the Toyota website, but I suspect the price is somewhere around $43,000.

The handling is a ton better - note the lower trim is still leaf springs, and the upper trims are 5 link. I haven't noticed any steering wheel vibration. On the downside, the interior looks like somebody dumped box of legos, the hood flops around in the middle, and the glovebox door has about 1" of play from where it latches to where it stops if you push it. Probably the Frontier in that group, even if CR says it isn’t. It’s the only one left with a normal V6 and a normal 9 speed auto. It’s also got an absolutely ancient interior borrowing parts from older Nissans, and it’s riding on the same frame as the prior frontier. Nissan basically benchmarked the Tacoma when they redesigned the frontier and with the Tacoma redesigned, this is what the Tacoma used to be. Also if you look at the elements CR talks about that makes cars reliable, Frontier fits those elements on point.

Also about reliability aspect of things the automaker doesn’t make parts for the cars for example I drive a vw atlas but the fuel injector’s spark plugs and fuel pump is made by Bosh and the coil packs are made by denso. The transmission is manufactured by Asian witch is majority owned by Toyota witch is often used in most non dual clutch powered Volkswagen auto group cars. Many Volvos and bmws use zf transmissions etc etc if you get down to the nitty gritty majority of the parts in many cars are manufactured by the same company and assembled by what ever brand car you’re buying. Turbos can be made by Mitsubishi, those are usually put on BMWs and Volkswagen can use Borg Warner turbos…. Within the last 5-7 years.

I think Toyota will stand by it and all the issues that TFL or other people have had, by recall or modifying it as time goes. It does go to show that you really shouldn’t buy the first year of any new model. I do think if you’re looking at this class, I think the Ridgeline or Frontier are the better options. I realize that it's a Toyota, so it's not exactly bleeding edge technology, but have you driven the new Model 3? If Tesla had made something the size of the Maverick (I agree with Monty on this one, as well as much else), they would have eaten every other manufacturers lunch. Between Ridgeline, Colorado, and Ranger, the Ridgeline. I get it can't tow as much or offroad like the others but let's be real. How many truck buyers are actually doing truck stuff with their trucks? Maybe 5%. For most folks that should buy an SUV but want a truck and just need it to haul the family, do Costco runs, maybe drive on grass or dirt at the local parks, the Ridgeline does it all. If you need a "truck" and can't accept the Ridgeline, probably Tacoma. All midsize trucks don't really drive great. Colorado has the power delivery issues, Ranger is stiff and handles terribly, Tacoma is very noisy and unrefined, Frontier is ancient, and Gladiator has FCA reliability while being big. They're all terrible to drive, but Tacoma at least won't depreciate and likely will be reliable (at least if you wait a year and Toyota works out the issues hopefully). After the Tacoma, I'd go Colorado.

Huh? I m 5’8 with my 2022 TRD sport, mid 50.. I have no issues with the seating and sit comfortably, drove long distance about 450+ miles and never felt uncomfortable at all. You must be crazy or complicit with Toyota if you have no issue with 45k for a SR5. They shrink the storage and rear windows and make you pay for all the standard features. Toyota just lost touch with all their loyal owners. Don’t need to agree with me, see for yourself how many they sold the 4gen. 😅

Who gives a crap what an engine sounds like? As long as it’s not too loud, I don’t understand that preference

I like Tacoma because it reliability and easier to work on I like to change my own spark plugs and oil 🛢️ and Tacoma's easy to do because I asked a dealer to change my spark plugs they didn't do a thing and charged me $150 for 6 denso spark plugs I got from AutoZone less than $70 and took me less than one hour to do it But I don't know if I can change a Ridgeline spark plugs.

Tacoma's ride is designed with beefier components for longterm durability, hence, it's inherently rougher riding when new. It will break in at 100k miles. The Colorado will need alignment at 25k, new ball joints at 70k, and new bearings at 100k. That's the tradeoff you make with Toyota trucks. IYKYK...

Wrong, most vehicles never need an alignment, and the new Tacoma is made as cheaply as possible in Mexico, even though it’s by far the most expensive of the current midsize trucks.

More affordable EVs needed. 10 years with a Camry. Will never get another ICE vehicle.

We need more ice, too many ev.

EVs are less expensive than gas on the used market currently. Take advantage of the massive depreciation and buy slightly used.

if you want a good truck then go with the domestic brands

Tacoma was always a great truck. Now it’s a poorly-built piece of crap. Those engines aren’t to be trusted and the build quality ranks up there with a 1990s Kia. Nevertheless, the price is RIDICULOUS.

Total crap. Toyota took a unique truck and converted into a copy paste of everything out there.

Traded in my Tacoma. The gas mileage is horrible. It is a crew cab two person vehicle. It cannot tow, it cannot take much weight in the back. It’s a dinosaur. Other than the Tacoma fanboys that want to go up in remote areas with their medium size dog with the bandana on its neck, there is limited use for this kind of vehicle. The prices on this new care is insane.
