The only video i found on KZbin how to reset the oil life on a 2024 VW Atlas. Good job 👍🏻

Nice simple detailed explantation. Some may over complicate simplicity unnecessarily…thank you. OIL RESET/SERVICE INTERVAL WAS A GOOD ADD!

Thanks. 3k miles oil changes for the win. 1200 on the odo now. Doing the first oil change myself now and saving my 8 freebies for another time.

10K oil change intervals is the quickest way to lead your engine to an early grave. Especially on engines equipped with TIMING CHAINS. I change mine at 5K intervals. Oil is cheaper than an engine. Especially a VAG engine.

I’m at 160k on my atlas with 10k oil changes. Timing chain is great. Just checked.
@dantesinfernopurgatory78263 ай бұрын
@@toddjohnson9546 Not the chain you have to worry about. Tensioner, chain guides, etc. You're living on borrowed time. Doesn't matter whether your Atlas has the 3.6L VR6 or the 2.0L TSI engine. I've owned/maintained/driven VW/Audi products since 1975.

The fear of the 10k oil change. I had a 2007 Passat 2.0t belt driven with 309,642 miles and changed the oil at 10k intervals through 250,000, then dropped to 8.5k. VW engineers test these cars under extrem conditions in different countries around the world.
@dantesinfernopurgatory7826Ай бұрын
@@clauskohler7560 Your Passat has the older direct-injected EA-113 engine which is more robust. I currently own the older port-injected 20v timing belt 1.8t in three of my vehicles - one EA-113 with the external waterpump and two with the timing belt driven waterpump. Two of them are over the 500K mark and the third is at the 250K mark. I've owned VWs for several decades dating back to the Mk1 Golf/Rabbit. I'm referring to the direct-injected timing-chain driven engines later than the EA-113 - namely the EA-888 Gen I through Gen 3 1.8TSI and 2.0TSI - where oil changes are especially critical.
@clauskohler7560Ай бұрын
@@dantesinfernopurgatory7826 EA-888 burns a little more oil, all you need to do is add 1qt at 5k range. The maintenance intervals of VW cars are based on facts. If you know your VW, you know that, when VW comes with a new model, they are usually camouflaged and driven in different countries and under different weather conditions all over the world.

Thank you for the video! You made it look simple with great explanations. Resetting the service interval was key too! I haven't had the space to change my own oil in over 10 years when I was working with a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. That oil change was very basic with the pan and filter having easy access. I am not sure if all cars have that underneath cover but it seems annoying for an extra step especially if I am not working with a ton of room under the vehicle. The filter on top was also a change for me.
@jeffgates1906Ай бұрын
Could you take the panel off and leave it off? Seams like a pain

Great video! I am going to dump my oil at 5,000 miles and let them do the oil filter at 10,000 miles. I figure there is no reason the filter needs to be replaced at 5,000 but I don't want to go 10,000 miles between oil changes when I can get oil for like $30.... Juts to confirm, the oil drain plug's torque spec is in ft-lbs and the oil filter housing is in newton meters?
@SuburbanRanch3 ай бұрын
That’s correct. It should say the torque spec on the oil filter housing.

Thanks for the great video. Question about the crush washer, when I looked for them on Amazon, it says it doesn't fit 2.0 VW Atlas. Is the following the correct size? 14 mm; OD 20 mm ; thickness is 2.3 mm.
@SuburbanRanch6 ай бұрын
I do not know the dimensions but here it is on the VW site. parts.vw.com/p/Volkswagen_2024_Atlas-Cross-Sport/Engine-Oil-Drain-Plug-Gasket/49794818/N0138157.html

2024 models are still “too new” often times during first year for parts fitment/availability. Just need to double check because it may be an update needed when it’s says it won’t fit.

Thanks for the video...just purchased this vehicle and plan to diy oil changes every 5k. Have you look at replacing the oil drain plug with a valve (Fumoto)? Fumoto shows 5 valve options, but not sure which is best. I have one on a '23 Subaru OB and it makes for an easy/mess free oil change.

When you said you “replaced” the oil drain plug, did you just re-use the actual plug and only added a new washer? Or do you have to install a new plug and washer like on the previous gen? First time I’ve seen an oil drain with a torx. Hopefully I can continue using the same plug and just have to get new washers since I was having to pay $6-7 each time for a whole new plug and washer on my wife’s old 2019 2.0 Atlas

Yes, just replaced the crush washer.

What are your thoughts on using an oil extractor versus draining it out the bottom? I saw another video where a guy did it that way. Outstanding video, btw!

The extractor seems to work but I have never tried it. I prefer to drain it from the bottom.
