MILTON HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE ONE OF THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE HURRICANES ON RECORD FOR WEST--CENTRAL FLORIDA
From the GeoCollaborate StormCenter Communications SISE Support Center this is the 545PM ET update on Hurricane Milton. This video is provided to support the movement of fleet utility vehicles and sharing of trusted information across public and private sectors to speed situational awareness, response and recovery.
KEY MESSAGES: HURRICANE MILTON
1. A large area of destructive storm surge, with highest
inundations of 10 ft or greater, is expected along a portion of the
west-central coast of the Florida Peninsula. Near the coast the
surge will be accompanied by damaging waves. Water levels will rise
rapidly as the eye approaches, and strong onshore winds on the
backside of the hurricane will also cause a rapid rise in water as
the center makes landfall.
2. Devastating hurricane-force winds are expected along portions of
the west coast of Florida within the Hurricane Warning area.
Life-threatening hurricane-force winds, especially in gusts, are
expected to spread inland across the peninsula and to portions of
the Florida east coast within the Hurricane Warning area tonight and
early Thursday. Residents should be prepared to take shelter in an
interior room, away from windows, as the core of the hurricane moves
across the central Florida Peninsula.
3. The risk of strong tornadoes will continue into the evening
hours across the southern and central portions of the Florida
Peninsula. Be prepared to take immediate shelter in an interior
room if a Tornado Warning is issued for your area.
4. Heavy rainfall across the Florida Peninsula through Thursday
brings the risk of catastrophic and life-threatening flash and urban
flooding along with moderate to major river flooding, especially in
areas where coastal and inland flooding combine to increase the
overall flood threat.

​@@DancingQueenieYes. The ambulances are paid by FEMA. I have worked in areas affected by a hurricane and there have been ambulances from out of state for my district since I live in coastal Texas. Our work involved medical evacuations and running emergency as the local folks have to prepare their homes and families as well.

I'm in pasco county florida right now winds are starting to pick up but it's cold outside here at 7:30pm wich cold air kills hurricanes so I'm hoping it calms down fast, my 73 yr. Old mother just lost her home along with her whole subdivision from Helene and my father just happen to have an empty home that needed a bit of renovations so we put my mom his ex wife into his home but she is so depressed and it shows as she just renovated her home with saving 20 grand and one week later Helene took her house and destroyed it.

great coverage. The details are well explained and the graphics are easy to follow. I wish we had a way to know how many people didn't evacuate and have a main communication center for them to contact with any concerns. Obviously if they didn't leave they made the choice to possibly be without any help or rescue options. I'm just talking about a way for search and rescue to know that these folks tried to communicate their status and if they were not found then the worse would be assumed. Too much un-accountability in these storms. People could literally harm someone and no one would ever know.

Interesting very late Season Cat5 that had an apparent cold front upon the North side with massive dry air ingestion of this as this made "the turn"(this being an atypical West East GOM approach) to the North as was seen in initially modeling of this actually. Acapulco absolutely *DESTROYED* by I think it is called a Fujiwarwa Effect and for the 3rd time in on or about 12 Months has Acapulco been obliterated so very much foresaken City that one. By Florida standards not a major hurricane but still very impressive nonetheless.😊

When, for example, you say it is starting to flood in Naples (or wherever), about how many miles inland does that flooding go. I can see the red or yellow highlights, but how many miles inland is that in general terms?

It's still just beachfront flooding at the moment. There are live cams all over Tampa you can watch to see. But all of Naples is at sea level so the water is going to keep going inland as long as Milton is pushing it west.
