It's kind of crazy that you can buy a well-equipped Silverado 2500 LT TrailBoss 6.6L gas for $65K (on my wish list) which is less money than a Toyota Tundra SR5 with TRD Off Road Package at $66K before markups!

I have a 1999 Silverado 2500 and a 2023 Silverado 2500 Duramax. In 1999, if I were to pay $35k for that truck, factoring inflation, the 2023 truck would cost $64k. Indeed, that’s nearly exactly what I paid when I bought my new one! I keep saying it: trucks don’t cost any more today than 25 years ago; our dollar is worth less. Blame the government not the vehicle manufacturers.

I did find an interesting thing though. In 1960, a new 3/4 ton Chevy truck cost $2189 base. In 2024 dollars, the same truck would cost $23k. Even still, that’s a 964% price increase due to inflation but we’re talking 1960! Anyone who bought a truck 64 years ago can go ahead and complain now.

Tim, you are spot on with respect to diesel vs gas engine. The other issue is a significant increase in maintenance costs for that diesel. I would only buy the diesel if towing infrequently if I knew that load would justify the extra capability.

I was interested in the trail boss package, surprised it wasn't available until the LTZ trim level. Although I agree diesel is a more common choice in HD trucks; however, there seems to be fairly good availability of the 6.6 gas where I am. May be because I live in California where diesel is ..... what $4.712.. omg it's dropped, was almost $6 - man I gotta run and get a diesel. By the way, 87 is $3.99 which is almost free. I also don't quite understand why the double cab maxes out at LT trim.. but the universe is vast and there is much I don't know. I drove a 22 Chevy 2500 6.6 gas LT dbl cab standard bed today.. I was very impressed and may finally be the time to upgrade my tow vehicle. Last thought .. some say go diesel if you're towing all the time, I would say go diesel if you're towing over 12,000 lbs (especially out west).

It's always surprising to me that the 2500's aren't prohibitively more expensive than the 1500 - unless you order the 2500's diesel which has a huge cost. But... I'm short (like Tim) and live in the crowded northeast so I value a skinnier truck like a Chevy Colorado.

Tim, pricing the 2500 out is why some upper end trim 3rd gen Tundra owners moved to that truck after the TTv6 recall. 2 of my neighbors did just that. Unlike me, they tow more often and drive longer distances.

Blue interior leather in High Country is the one to get, reminds me of Caddy seats from the 70's. 😀 ZR2 in Canada starts at $96,931 for gaz & $107,926 diesel in 2500. High Country starts in gasser for $98,331 & $109,326 diesel too. Add about $3,000 for 3500 but in Canada only 3 choices WT, LT, LTZ and High Country @ $100,331.00 for a gas truck.

15:29 diesel in the HD trucks is so expensive as to be use case specific - like you said, for towing pretty much. Takes too long to save you money on fuel savings (if ever).

Bought a '24 gas 2500hd pretty well loaded ltz a couple months ago. 66k. So far I like it. Not really fond of the 20" wheels though I think they ride a little harsh.

The simple, no frills value truck everyone bitches they want is available and it’s the WT or custom 2500 and I totally plan on getting one in a year or two assuming pricing doesn’t have another covid spike. More truck for less $

They must have saw you coming… at my local dealership they have gas zr2’s stickered at 77… can get one for 70k. The diesel is 86k

@@mikesnook6210 You can not get a FULLY loaded ZR2 for 70k. My ZR2 has every option except for the diesel engine.
