I have a sport hybrid hatch as well. Mine has 3500 km now with 5.6 l per 100 km in winter around minus 10 degrees to 5degrees outside temp range. When outside temp is around 0 to 5C it’s running at 5.3 l per 100 km. All under Normal mode. Love the driving dynamics and the speedy pickup and acceleration. Willing to sacrifice some fuel efficiency for the great driving feel and dynamics. Best civic so far besides a type R and SI. But way better acceleration and fuel efficiency than the SI. Worth every cent!

I have a 2025 Civic Sport Sedan. After about 1500 km of mostly city driving in econ mode in weather conditions similar to what you have, I get around 6.5 L/100 km. I'm disappointed in the fuel efficiency so far, but I expect it will improve significantly once we get warmer weather and I get the winter tires off the vehicle. The rather poor fuel efficiency is my only disappointment with the car so far. I agree with you entirely re the driving feel and dynamics. Great car overall.

My 2024 civic sport manual gets 47 mpg on the highway averaging 63 mph here at my local altitude of 5000ft. On the stock wheels and tires I was getting 45. The Honda 2MHS uses a fixed gear ratio on the highway to allow the engine to directly power the wheels. It's not too hard to see with a scan tool that it's doing 2600 rpm at 70 mph in parallel hybrid mode. Compare that to Toyota's power split device setup that will let you cruise as low as 960 rpm on the highway at 70 mph ... granted that's definitely downhill with a tailwind. Think about much harder to you have to push the gas to rev at 2600 vs 960 while in park. That's the minimum amount of gas you need just to not slow down, driving costs extra. That adds up over a long drive. Most of the time Toyota hybrids are doing 1300-1800 rpm to maintain 70 depending on terrain but it can obviously vary.
@terrancecloverfield6791Күн бұрын
Thanks for the figures, though I wanna say 2600 RPM may be a bit high (unless it's Sport Mode), I'm thinking 2100 RPM at 70MPH. I don't think it's a good idea to lug the engine because it needs to be at specific operating temperatures for the motor oil to work the way it should, in addition to providing cabin heating. Toyota's HV Mode is very aggressive at turning off and on the engine, when I was test-driving the Prius Prime and Civic Hybrid, where the feeling of jerkiness in the Prius is the reason why the Civic Hybrid felt like the smoother (EV-like) experience. But the computer will know when/how to set idle RPMs in those conditions anyways.
@GrafyteКүн бұрын
@@terrancecloverfield6791 Feel free to rent one or test drive one and plug in an OBD2 scan tool and see for yourself. Sport mode doesn't change the gear ratio. It's literally 27 mph / 1000 rpm.

I liked the manual sport and almost got it, or probably should have instead of this hybrid. The biggest issue for many was the center arm rest with a hole pit for cups. It made no sense and you would have to do something with your right elbow to put it somewhere. Even some sort of slide arm rest or tray combo. Are cups that important? Honda thought so. Not a great sense of aesthetic thinking by Honda, but it seemed they may have only had a limited number of years for that manual planned.
@Grafyte5 сағат бұрын
@ You are not the first to complain about the mountain peak center armrests, but my itty bitty elbows fit perfectly on them. I use my center armrest pretty much continuously even on long drives with issue. It's a lot better than my 1993 which had no center armrest at all.

Hondas hybrid systems are NOT nearly as efficient at highway speeds as other hybrid setups.
@terrancecloverfield6791Күн бұрын
Indeed, it's something I test-drove but eventually accepted. The power-split design of Toyota allows for that assistance from both the battery+engine. Whereas Honda uses clutch-packs to engage the engine at highway speeds. For Toyota, the consequence is a jerking feeling on deacceleration/acceleration due to the engine constantly turning off as needed. Whereas with Honda, the engine can link up to the drive motor(and the wheels) as needed, creating a smoother driving experience at the cost of highway MPG, since the battery pack is bypassed.

I own a 2024 Accord LX and i averaged just a bit under 45 miles per gallon on a 300 mile round trip to see family. Went mostly 70 mph, but was also going 75 mph at times and 80 for short periods. About 90% highway up and over a mountain both ways. While that will not be indicative of the average persons daily drive, it will be useful to someone who commutes on high speed roads with very few stop lights/signs. It appears to me that the 1.5 liter turbo family of engines can be designed to exceed the fuel economy on the highway over 2 liter NA engines when tuned for fuel efficiency. Major point is VW Jetta with 1.5 liter turbo. Using the Honda 1.5 turbo with a more fuel conservative tune in the hybrids would probably help close the gap between Honda and its more fuel efficient compensation. Potentially a 1 liter three cylinder turbo for less engine mass and shorter warm up times.

@ Altkinson cycle is not something fancy, it just a "Open-the-valve-later" cycle in layman's term, it just a programming twist. The Honda owners manual desire the tire pressure at 35psi front and 33psi rear and lists NO brand name, just Honda's recommendation. I added air to up to the 44psi mark to all tires the next morning and it went up 45.2mpg (econ). In a few months I will probably go to 48psi and stop it at there to allow the tires to adjust. I suppose Honda prides ride and handling with lesser psi? but really what is harder spinning lower inflation tires. I had many 'personal' issues with it, and it would not work for me because of those issues. Most of my driving is highway, being that I owned this car and it was brand new and I planned on keeping it for years and years- I was easy on it. Best I got was 35mpg. I had a rental 2023 elantra limited hybrid that I beat to hell and I didn't see under 50mpg once..I put over 1200 miles on it in just shy of 3 days (mostly highway at 85+). I also had a rental non hybrid 2024 limited elantra that I put over 2k miles on in about 1.5 weeks and never saw under 30mpg on it.. didn't drive it quite as hard but I wasn't easy on it either. Had an overnight test drive of a used 2022 maverick hybrid and put 400 miles on it (about 350 highway at 85+), also beating it to hell to make sure it would work for me and even it got 35mpg the whole time.
