Universal may not loose as much money as you may think by not increasing ticket prices. They're offering some really good deals on tickets. People who think they've gotten a really good deal are more likely to spend more within the park for food, premium experiences and souvenirs. I don't know the psychology behind it, but it's something I saw all the time when working at an attractions venue. If Universal plays this up by tempting people to spend more by doing seasonal, limited edition, and playing up the fact that their food and souvenirs are brand new people will spend even more money. So I think they'll loose money on ticketing but between the likely higher sales of things in the park and people staying at Universal resorts more to double down on the deals I think they will make absolute bank overall.
@ducktails16952 ай бұрын
This is what they said I think during their earnings call too. They're focused on getting guests to spend money throughout their vacation so if you price tickets too high, guests will still come but they won't feel like spending as much on food, snacks, merchandise, express passes, etc. Short term loss for a longer term gain here.

You are missing maybe the most important point. To attend Epic Universe as a non-passholder, you HAVE to buy a multi day ticket that only allows you in Epic 1 day. You are being forced to buy tickets to USF and IOA. How will most people even have time to visit Disney at all if they already have tickets to Universal's legacy parks? IOA and USF will likely not be cannibalized at all and should see attendance increases due to this multi-day ticket requirement.

Devils advocate here though, you can maybe look at it this way. By the time the initial hype has died down for EU and you can just buy single day tickets (2026 onwards) Disney will potentially be starting to open the first of many new areas, attractions and lands, which is probably spanning the next 2/3-10 years, potentially giving them a longer game plan of people returning for multiple trips as new things gradually open.
@DeadmanInc3362 ай бұрын
@@funkydino that's what most people are glossing over. Disney was focusing on other projects during this time period. Disney knows that 2025 and 2026 belong to Universal. Something I think is very important to mention is the year after Epic’s opening. Besides a refurbished Big Thunder Mountain, Disney currently has NOTHING planned for 2026 at WDW. Those big new rides and areas that they announced won’t be finished until 2027 AT THE EARLIEST. That gives Epic Universe a full year of uninterrupted time to itself while Disney is building those attractions. 2026 is also when Universal will start implementing Epic into all of their usual park bundles and deals, which will likely make it even more enticing to go there alongside the other legacy parks. That’s not even considering that Kids Resort Universal is building in Texas, which currently has a 2026 opening date, which will give people in the area even LESS reason to go to Disney unless they do some MAJOR deals or price cuts.

I've said it once I'll say it again, Disney screwed themselves in the long term by focusing on killing their competition in the short term. They created a half-assed park in Hollywood Studios to try to undercut Universal's launch, and they created another in Animal Kingdom to undercut Busch Gardens. With these two they weren't focused on creating long term parks with solid plans. They didn't think about how insane of a task upkeeping 4 parks at once with both maintenance and new attractions is. They wanted quick and easy solutions to kill competition, and now they're paying for it because they expanded too far. Disney's offerings in 2025 are great if you're considering it for 2 or 3 parks, but for 4? It's absolutely not enough.

MGM Studios was always supposed to be a half-day park, it was birthed out of a proposed Epcot ride/pavilion. Turning it into a theme park with news of Universals moving in next door was the opposite of shortsighted; It succeeded in turning WDW into a true multi-day resort. It was the right move regardless of what Universal was doing (with their disastrous park out the gate lol). Regarding Animal Kingdom, it obviously opened unfinished; We can blame Iger for it still remaining an unfinished half-day park, since he has put very little into the most recent park at WDW. That said, I'm not sure why you think it was merely a Busch gardens competitor, when Busch gardens existed since the 1950s and WDW was long established as a multi-day destination by the 90s...BG was not much of a legitimate lure bringing tourists away from WDW by the late 90s lol. Disney's biggest problem is they no longer have the talent that brought the Disney difference. From their new attractions to in park entertainment, it's clear they've lost their way and even worse, the management is now overrun with people who don't understand what made Disney, Disney. Which is why Hollywood Studios now has a 200+ pound chick dancing in the park to Shake it Off as part of their Holiday entertainment.
@elevenb69672 ай бұрын
But did you die? I mean, you do understand that most of the people who were around when "Disney was being made, Disney" are either dead, or dying, don't you? There's this thing called procreation, where babies are born. And when they are born, they're not born old. They will eventually grow. In the midst of all that, things change, and tastes change. Young people don't want the in-park holiday entertainment to consist of waifs dancing to the likes of Guy Lombardo, the Everly Brothers, or Lawrence Welk's orchestra. Those days are over, man. Long gone, in fact. And that's just something that you're going to have to get used to. But hey, while all those young people are watching that '200+ pound chick' dance to Outkast, you can go ride the Tower of Terror. That is, if your back will allow it.

@@elevenb6967 Wrong. Things don't change, tastes don't change. Young people do want stuff like Guy Lombardo and I say they do. I will be deciding what kids want for them and turn them into clones of their parents.

I work at Universal Orlando and I can tell you that Universal is forcing (for lack of a better word) guests to buy a package deal. These will include, IOA, USF, or VB. So IOA and USF might see a drop in attendance but not as bad as when IOA opened in 1999. Plus I doubt they'll loose much money in profits as you might think.

I don't think they're gonna get challenged any time soon. If you show up at any Disney parks it's crowded af. I went to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios, then I went to Universal's Islands of Adventures on the same trip. I'm neither a Disney or Universal fan but ngl I was more impressed with Disney rides with their technology. Have to agree that Disney is getting more and more cash grabbing but people are still paying so they will continue to increase price. I don't think a drop in attendance is actually a concern. I think it will improve the overall customer satisfaction when the parks aren't super crowded.

My own assessment before I watch: I do believe the whole "rising tides" thing. I myself partake in that, lol. But, I think their own other 2 parks will get less visits from both AP's and non AP's. NOT as much as one might initially think, tho. For instance, on my normal visits I do Uni's 2 parks in 3 days. We go for 10 days. My friend is already complaining about how long that is (she's what I'd call an avg theme park attendee, not a crazy one like me lol). So, we are just taking that 3rd Uni day and putting it at Epic, essentially lowering the attendance to the other 2 for that 3rd day (and also not spending on food and merch there, tho they're getting our $ regardless, lol). We are AP's. We also have to remember that, at least for now, non-AP's are having to buy tickets to the other parks as well. So it's clear they thought of this too. They will be selling single day tickets to gen pop soon tho, apparently. I think the park that's really in trouble is Animal Kingdom. People already think of it as a half-day park, and they're closing Dinosaur too. People might end up skipping it altogether. And, of course, any other non-Uni or Disney park should be concerned. Not just now, but going forward As I said, I go for 10 days and I've never even been to a non-uni or Disney park. And that's a long time for many. People also don't have a lot of money and/or time off these days.
