I'm living in Canada, My CX-50 GT in Ingot Blue will be one year old in December, with almost 15k km. I had the same question, but the CX-50 looks more aggressive and have more room inside. If you look at the front grill, you'll see a lot of inspiration or similarities especially in the headlights with Jaguar F-Pace. I can only imagine how amazing it would be if they did the same as with the CX-5 and made all the bumpers painted. That would be sick! I love my car! The only thing I might change would be the color my favorite is Machine Gray with the Terracota Leather but Ingot Blue is special too since only the CX-50 has this blue tone color (Ingot blue was my plan B because the sales person said no ETA for Machine gray with Terracota).

Good review! Considering your altitude, the zero to sixty time of 7.1 seconds was particularly good. At a lower altitude and using a higher octane fuel, I can easily see this in the low 6 second range.

Great review! I have a 2019 Honda Passport and have considered one of these as a replacement down the road. 7.1 seconds is pretty impressive on 87 octane and higher altitude. A lot of the owners of this or the CX5 or CX30 say the 93 octane makes a significant difference.

Thanks Dave!! This was another fun one. I actually really like the Passports, although I’ve only driven one once (old video of it) and I’m sure the refresh will include the DOHC version of the 3.5 and Hondas 10 speed rather than the ZF 9 speed. Do you mind sharing why you’re thinking of moving on to a different platform? Yeah, absolutely! I’ve only driven these cars with the manufacturer or dealer provided 87 octane, but I’m sure more power is noticeable on these! 😅🤪

@@AutomotiveAnonymous208 not at all. Love my Passport. Just don’t need as much room like I used to. It accelerates and rides great, but it is a little too big and unwieldy for my tastes. Whenever I ride in my wife’s 2018 Forester XT, I love how nimble it is. As I’ve commented in a lot of your videos, if they made the Forester XT 2.4L, I would get it in a heartbeat.

Seems most reviews I see are on turbo models. We have 2 CX-50's a 2024 and a 2025 both are preferred's as well as a 2015 Mazda3. I did not get the higher models for the following reasons. A turbo creates more stress on the engine and reduces its longevity. Turbo vehicles cost more to insure. The normally aspirated engine does just fine, adding a turbo does not put it into a performance car catagory. From past experience sun roofs are not opened often and eventually cause problems and are not useful with A/C. Leather seats are hot, especially in the summer. 20" wheels ride terribly. Premium plus and higher models are expensive and don't really add much to the driving experience. The CX-50 is a great car.
@AutomotiveAnonymous208Ай бұрын
I’m glad you guys are enjoying yours! Sometimes, like in your example less can be more. I also have a review of a non turbo 2025, and I’m excited to put out a hybrid video soon too!

Just did a test drive of a 2025 Subaru Outback, then a Forester. Then I went over to Mazda to test drive this model CX-50. I prefer the larger nav screens without having to squint to read text. So Mazda models and their small screens won't cut it for me. Too bad, as it's a really cool car otherwise (except for those console french doors, omg, really ??).
@johnsanford3596Ай бұрын
If you want to take this puppy or the Premium Plus off-road do yourself a favor and put on a wheel/tire setup like the Turbo Meridian uses. 18" wheels. If it weren't for the $8k turbo Premium this would be my next car. In Soul Red Metallic, of course.
@WScott-gd2mjАй бұрын
Compared to CX5 (which still easily outsells it), the 50 is lower and wider, yet somehow with less shoulder/hip room as well as headroom. Less nimble in city driving. And a less sophisticated suspension. As a '16 CX5 owner I'll be looking elsewhere unless they bring out a new gen of the 5 w/hybrid option.
@ChrisDIYerOklahomaАй бұрын
93 octane and 18" wheels (lighter wheels and tires) makes mine sprint 0-60 mph in the low 6 second range. The 20" stock wheels are fugly looking IMHO....one of the first things I swapped out. Went with "offset" 18" all black wheels with some poke out...fills out the wheel wells. Tires are Michelin, one size taller/wider. The stock Goodyear rubber bands are okay at first, but ride quality, noise, and harshness are no comparison to Michelin.

@AutomotiveAnonymous208Ай бұрын
The suspension is definitely a bit more firm than a lot of the other CUVs I’ve driven. But on paved roads around town having 17-20” wheels on various trim level of crossovers like this don’t feel all that different to me. I’m sure on rough roads and hitting pot holes it is very noticeable. But the small sidewall and suspension seem to still have enough bandwidth to absorb paved street irregularities. With that said, I definitely recommend you go out and test drive a few! 😅😉

Cross shopping this with the 25 outback Xt, is the trunk in this as big as the subie and how does the 0-60 compare?
@AutomotiveAnonymous208Ай бұрын
The Outback has just a couple more cubic feet of room when the second row is up, and quite a lot more storage when the second row is down. 0-60 is basically a wash between them. Outback is probably faster on 87 octane, but maybe a tie or slight loss if on 91 octane. Thanks for watching. I also have a side by side comparison of this car to an Outback XT if you haven’t already seen that.
@PaintDryLiftingАй бұрын
@AutomotiveAnonymous208 great, thanks! The outback cvt is a no no, and I think the mazda looks better but all 3 of our large dogs fit in the outback trunk , seats would be up at all times for safety I also am a bit skeptical of the cx50 infotainment vs the big touchscreen on the subie
@curtis4982Ай бұрын
@@PaintDryLiftingjust my 2 cents but having recently test driven both cars the Subie has a very - very large and distracting infotainment with far too much going on. Mazdas may not be the most exciting but if given time to learn the button placement and how to navigate the donut dial it’s actually great to use. Not to mention Subaru has some weird Times Square/Las Vegas in your face type shit happening with all the different information on that large vertical screen at once whereas Mazdas looks classy and organized. I personally prefer some refinement and Mazda delivers - it doesn’t look like a 4 year olds colouring book 🎨. Edit: Coming from a previous Subaru owner and now switching to Mazda
@AutomotiveAnonymous208Ай бұрын

The RAV 4 has more space when the second row is down, I also think its visibility is just slightly better. I’m thinking all the powertrains are likely very reliable but this Turbo is faster than any non PHEV Prime RAV4 and it also ‘feels’ more sporty or sharp to drive, but ultimately they maneuver about the same. That’s at least my experience and thoughts. 😅🤔
