Yet another cracking review, mate - you've gotta be one of the busiest journos in Aus! The Patrol Warrior is a beast - certainly not cheap but compare it against LC300 trim levels and it starts looking like a bit of a bargain.... some savings for all those fuel bills, especially if you're towing!
@drivingenthusiastaustralia

@@dingus2218 Thanks mate. Yep, you can use the $30k price difference to pay for fuel. At 15L/100km and a fuel price of $2/L, that $30,000 equals 100,000km of driving.

@Stevegrande1 12 күн бұрын
When towing the patrol is on par with the old 200 twin turbo diesel. When comparing to the 300 it’s around 3L per 100 more in the patrol, this is based on towing the same weight van

The new Y63 will be quick, 700nm of torque, Nissan make probably one of the best turbo petrol engines. Only thing I’d miss would be the V8 rumble other than that the Y63 will be well ahead in tec etc

15 liters isnt too bad. I thought it would be more like 18 to 20l to 100 kms for this beast. I had an old 4.2l diesel patrol and the economy wasnt that much better except it had zero performance

Sucks for you because a 4.2 diesel turbo patrol with some minor mods (turbo/fuel pump) will yield around 11l/100 fully loaded and towing 3 plus tonnes for a fraction of the cost of this and newer 4wds. The difference between a stock and even mildly modified 4.2 patrol is night and day. But each to their own.

Interesting review, was thinking of ordering one, I do have a question regarding the new info system, are you sure that's a premcar system? I thought I've seen somewhere that, that is what Nissan has given us (Australia) to keep us apeased until the new Y63 actually arrives on our shores maybe around 2026-27

I almost bought a Warrior but the seat comfort is just terrible for my frame. I’m average build and 5’11. (85kg) They are just so wide and firm. Definitely try a LC300 and Patrol back to back to compare. Comfort is day and night. I’m lucky as my Nissan and Toyota dealer are right next to each other.
@Stevegrande1
@Stevegrande1 12 күн бұрын
300 are better seats especially the GR, but I found myself like I was in a very tight spot with minimal lag room width wise, felt very narrow and rear leg room in the patrol eats the cruiser. Had mine 3 years now, and while I agree with you on the seats, I’ve driven Sydney to Brisbane and back a few times and found when getting out the patrol, I feel fine, no sore back etc. they could definitely do with some more side bolstering in the patrol for sure

@@Stevegrande1 thanks for your insight. I'll still haven't pull the trigger on either vehicle yet. The warrior's value is just so hard to beat and I never like buying in the first years of a new generation of any make. I tend to hold my cars for 10 years so its a tough decision.
@Stevegrande1
@Stevegrande1 12 күн бұрын
@@joshuamclean6564 yea the Y62 has been around in oz since 2013. Nothing really has change except on the they slightly changed in 2015 to give slightly better economy by having the vvel on both intake and exhaust. Other than that they only made the latest change in 24 with the new infotainment unit. The specs changed slightly in what you get eg the Ti now has the fridge cooler in the console where previously was only in the TiL but they have removed a few goodies like the 360 cameras (available again now aftermarket and work and look like factory, like they use to) lose the Bose stereo in the Til and rear screens on the back of the front headrests, and they removed the rear tri climate control but you still get rear AC so not a big deal.
@anthony-1357
@anthony-1357 11 күн бұрын
@@joshuamclean6564 it’s annoying but in the 300 series you got to buy mid spec to get decent seats so your looking at 30-50% more in purchase price compared to patrol. GR is a good car, but having the GR logo everywhere (including the headrest) is not my style. Nobody seems to do seat replacements anymore as I’m guessing it interferes with airbags. I wonder if you can re-pad/upholster the patrol seats to make em more comfortable for you. I’ve had a look and there are businesses that do that sort of stuff.

I think the car is cool, but it's feeling pretty old now. The V8 was cool at first, but now it's comparatively thirsty to competition - economy isn't as bad as I thought though. It's time for a v6 or v8 diesel.

Next one is twin turbo V6 petrol. Too much bull💩 now required for diesels to meet all the new emission rules and regulations. Petrol way more reliable these days
@anthony-1357
@anthony-1357 11 күн бұрын
What are you comparing it to though? Only competition really seems to be the 300 series which is a diesel. As already stated by others though, diesels are coming to an end as emissions restrictions are killing what was good about these motors such as reliability and longevity.
@joytech23
@joytech23 11 күн бұрын
@ I mostly meant it was time for them to shift away from the older N/A V8. In our market there aren't many price-like competitors - the Discovery, Prado and 300 and maybe I'm missing a couple. Like Steve said, a petrol turbo is still a really good alternative to the current V8. Highway/towing economy would probably be around the same (it already isn't terrible) as the current V8 but it would help economy a lot in urban traffic.
@anthony-1357
@anthony-1357 11 күн бұрын
@@joytech23 yeah it’s a tough choice. I wouldn’t be adverse to the new v6 turbo coming in the new model but I’m worried it will be a big price increase from the Y62. Everyone is different though. I’m lucky that I’m no longer doing a lot of driving for work, so higher urban fuel use isn’t that important for me. I’m more concerned about purchase price, servicing costs, and the odds of having to undertake expensive repairs while I own it. NA big V8 seems to work for me..?

The warrior is slower off the mark due to the bigger tyres mainly. Standard Ti is around the 7 mark or just under going by official docs which is pretty good for the size of them and are basically a brick on wheels coming in at 3 tonne

Keen eyes can tell that Nissan chassis engineers were UNCAPABLE of reducing weight of this behemoth. The similarly sized Landcruiser (200 series) V8 turbo diesel weights between 2550 to 2675 kg, depending on specs. Even the top specs at 2675 kg, it is 209 kg less weight than this fat, obese patrol at 2884 kg. Ask any gym goers or bodybuilders how heavy is 209 kg. Nissan is pathetic. No wonder it is about to go bankrupt.

@@anthony-1357 More than what?? it is simply to heavy just like other Nissan's product. Example: 1. GTR R-35 when it came out, 2. Maxima which was heavier than the equivalent Aurion, 3. R50 Pathfinder which was always quite a bit heavier than the Prado. Toyota is simply the Jap brand to buy for me. Nissan is a second tier jap carmaker.
