Nice to see a Polaris 900 that is not a pile of junk. I was working in the service department of a Polaris dealer when the Fusion’s came out. All of us hated life back then.

If Polaris was confident of this motor in a trail sled it would have the 4yr warranty for snowcheck..it has 2yr, and it's 2400$ more. Not worth it imo. I'd rather take that money and put it into shocks since those Walker Evans are a pile of garbage. That mod right there will make a 850 better then 9r

Luke - thanks so much for taking some time to discuss braking! When riding at the limits of what a snowmobile is capable of, braking plays such an important role and nothing comes even close to the incredible amount of feedback the Polaris brakes has to offer!

Another excellent intro video of a new model, Mr. Lester, thank you. I've sensed your enthusiasm previously on newly introduced sleds to the market, though, I don't think I've ever seen you this enthusiastic over any previous sled. Must be nice to already have snow to ride on. Kidding!! I'm guessing this was filmed at the end of last winter. All the best to you, AJ, and Mark, keep up the excellent work and thanks again for providing all of the informational videos on a sport that I have loved for over 40 years. Michigan loves you fellas!

Great video as always! I love my XCR 850, I predict they’ll have an XCR 9R with dynamix for 2026, I’ll wait for that one. Thanks for the effort you and your family and staff make to provide all this information on winter and summer toys. Tough Job, LOL, someone has to do it. You are the reason I bought my XCR ! Dynamics is nothing special, it wasn't that good in the RZR, still needed a grand worth of springs and another grand worth of valving in the shocks to make them how they should've come from Factory. Why people hype up this stuff before the public gets to ride them and put thru paces is beyond me. It give others the false impression to buy it

I have a 23 VR1 boost and after riding it for the past 2 seasons I believe the VR1 needs a shock upgrade. The XCR may not need the Boost but the Boost does need the XCR. Was hoping for that combination this year.
@pavmentsurfer13

Lol... I like how you put that. If you do get a chance to ride the 9R, you wont want a boost anymore. Unless you live at altitude. Then youll want to stick with the boost.

@davidkolisnek6601

I would axys ride beautiful because a little longer and flatter Matryx you slide to the tank more so put on knee and tank pads helped lots
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 8 ай бұрын
Man, great question. And hard to answer. The Axys is still a fantastic sled... STILL better that most. But the matrix is just a step above. Id say go matrix... you can always upgrade the shocks later if you want, and, in reality, thats the biggest difference from a mechanical standpoint between the different models.

Luke I watched two episodes of you on the nine r. the first episode you had was the gray and chartreuse or lime, yellow XCR the day after they came out and now I just watched the black and gray one that you were on. One question, Polaris ⭐️ was stupid not to let you pick your tracks this year and the gray and yellow one has the 1.6 inch track and the black and gray one comes with the 1.35 inch track. I was wondering if you noticed the difference?
@jodypierson3137
@jodypierson3137 9 ай бұрын
Totally agree, I have a 23 xcr 850 that has the 1.35 it’s a 128 you get basically 0 traction, I put 102 studs in it and that made a huge difference, If I got another it would definitely have to be the 1.6 I wanted the 9r this year but I’m not to fond of the colors myself
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 8 ай бұрын
For a 9R id go 1.6... unless you live in an area that gets sketchy snow. The 9R needs all the traction it can get. I would always choose a pre-studded track if i could thought.

@kwmiked
@kwmiked 9 ай бұрын
For the money difference form a 850, you'd be better off with a boost. Your still going to have to clutch this sled as well as Boost, Probably tune it case Polaris is gonna have the safteys set low on these so they fall on face after 2,3,4 back to back hard pulls just like the 21,22,23 850s did to prevent people from blowing them up. So at that point u can get a bit more power outa a boost with clutching and a tune vs 9r. Don't get me wrong it's cool, UT the price tag and hp kill it vs the same money getting a boost
@pavmentsurfer13
@pavmentsurfer13 8 ай бұрын
I think it was the right decision to keep the boost in the VR1 and the 9R in the XCR... but I think they should offer Dynamics on both. It just works so well. It could have stiffer base settings in the XCR but XCR riders would still benefit from it. Most XCR riders dont pound bumps at full throttle all day anyway. Thought dynamics did seem to help with that type of riding on the VR1

Dynotech research dyno’d 2 9R’s. 170hp 110fpt. 850 Polaris 160-167hp 100-110fpt 2 different 850’s one was more powerful than other. Doo 850 164-169hp 108-111.6fpt Again a couple different sleds made different power. 858 167hp 112fpt Broader power-band than 850’s on graph. Haven’t saw a dyno graph with 858 with 9R but looking at numbers very close. 858 only had 100 miles so wasn’t broke in yet either. Id have to go back and look if 9rs were broke in don’t remember but the 850’s were broke in. If u like to look at dyno numbers and performance parts and gains id highly recommend subscribing to dynotech research I have a blast looking lol!! $35 a year its totally worth it.

dynotech research reports 170hp 110fpt at sea level after break in. Not even close to the turbos on dyno. Haven’t rode one so cant say how it feels not bashing polaris iv not had enough time on one to judge. But iv seen 850 Polaris dyno out at 160-167hp 105-110fpt after break in. There’s the rumor that the 9r cranks not holding up. Just a rumor or true has anyone experienced this out there let us know. I do know lots of updates on polaris again in 2024 one being the primary clutches not holding up. Im a cat guy also hear rumors about cats some true some not so not stating facts here. The dyno numbers r facts 858 167hp 112fpt before break in. Power band on graph is broader than both doo and poo 850’s after break in. Haven’t saw a graph 858 vs 9R but looking at torque numbers looks like 858 could be little broader but very close. One things for sure the turbo 850’s make a lot more power on dyno. All my data comes from dyno tech research. Doo 850 is anywhere from 165-168hp 108-111fpt broke in. Cant wait till next season not only because this one sucked but to see the 850’s 858 and 9R race down the lake lol!! Power to weight cat has it but will clutches be dialed in. Or will it be another cat that cant break 100mph lol!! Haven’t been happy with cats clutching for some years now. Feel great down low but stop pulling around 80-95mph. Except for the thundercat of course they seem to have that one figured out. I know a lot of people will say I don’t care about top end but i do. I want my $15-18000 snowmobile to pull all the way through the power band. The 8000 after clutching will reach 110mph iv done it. But stock it wouldn’t hit a 100mph thats embarrassing for a 800 lol!! Ride my fathers 850 doo clutching is good and really like the doo’s. Lets hear ur thoughts has anyone experienced any of the rumors about the 9R. Please let us know if u have or haven’t. Good job luke nice walk around. Thank you

My initial experience with the 9R and the 858 are that, seat of the pants feel (and drag races side by side) the 858 feels REALLY soft and wasnt anywhere near as fast as the Skidoo or Polaris 850. The Polaris was the fastest, skidoo second and 858 3rd. Everyone who rode the 858 wasnt overly impressed with how the power felt. We had a number of them that has really strange vibrations as well.... then a couple that were buttery smooth. These were early production models, but not full production models. So time will tell. The 9R... every single person who go off it came away shaking their head at how strong it felt. Bottom end felt better than any 850 by ALOT. mid range was crazy and top end was impressive. The engine is also crazy smooth. We dont do clutch kits on anything we test. We keep it stock so the reviews are fair.. just like teh customer gets it from the dealer. Itll be a VERY interesting year next year to see how all the production models compare.

I bought 2 snow check machines, a VR1 and a Switchback in 2020, shortly later the machines were recalled, the sleds could blow-up. I took the sleds in for repair, fast forward 2 years, I received a "do not ride" notice. Now, 4 years later Polaris has not resolved the issue. I have asked for a refund or a safe replacement sled (s). Stay away, read everything on the web, lawsuits are coming, Polaris cannot handle the engineering.
