They are slow. With the prices that they have right now, just get an EV.

I love the design of this car. My cost of ownership of this car would be less than a Telsa model3 or S.

I took my SE on a 140 mi round trip. It averaged 46 MPG. Good enough. Especially for something this size and comfortable. Adequate was the perfect word to describe the Camry. Nothing to write home about. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Appreciate the input. I've been thinking hard about an EV the past few years but held off while the infrastructure build out was happening, while the market was maturing and while waiting on a potential house move (no need to hook up in home charging twice) but now we have a change in administration that is likely to (foolishly in my opinion) shift from an eco green focus in favor of fossil fuels so a hybrid seems to make more and more sense for the immediate and foreseeable future.

Most people don't need an EV, they will never recoup the costs because of miles driven.. Even a PHEV is not required for most people. An HEV will suffice.
@simplygregsterevАй бұрын
It’s not about recouping costs but rather lowering emissions. Anyways I don’t get into that of things too much. I review cars
@mikej238Ай бұрын
@simplygregsterev 😂 no its about recouping costs. No wonder nobody watches your channel. You probably would vote for Justin Trudeau or some other stupid liberal.

I can tell you right now, I dont. And I will tell you why. Live in the Canadian Prairies, and some trips I take are long 10 hour drives. To places that have no charging stations. One City I drive to is a 3 hour drive, and I would need to charge on that trip, or as soon as I get there. On a ten hour drive, I would waste an hour charging a car 3 times, maybe 4.

Gas is so inexpensive where I live that this car would be cheaper to drive than supercharging a model 3 (paid 2.60 per gallon for gas last night) Superchargers are .49 per kwh. The model 3 would come out on top if you mostly charged at home with electricity at .11 per kwh but the significantly higher registration fees on EV's (since they don't pay tax on gas) and higher insurance would eat up a lot of the fuel savings unless you drove a lot of miles. If you looked at 10 year cost of ownership, I believe the toyota would come out on top even when you factor in oil changes/added ICE maintenance cost.

Drove a hybrid Nissan in Japan recently and I agree they have a place and are a good option for people who are not yet ready to go full BEV. They are not for me but appreciate that others enjoy driving them. I also have to say that the constant switching between gas and electric (hybrid) is annoying most times (but then again I am spoiled by how quiet EVs are). Good video!
@simplygregsterevАй бұрын
I like how they took an engineering approach to lower their corp avg emissions by sticking with the Hybrid/PHEV Route. Not for me but I get the appeal for many. I'm not here to bash peoples choices but if the Camry was full BEV it would be spectacular. Our next video is a PHEV!

@@simplygregsterev not bad. But I wonder if it works like other PHEV systems if the temps drop to around -10 degrees Celsius then it stops working to preserve battery integrity. This has always been my biggest issue with PHEVs since then you are basically lugging a heavy battery around for no reason (especially if you live in cold climates).

My issue with Toyota is not that they are still very much on the hybrid train cause I agree they still have a place for those who are afraid to go full EV. My issue is that Toyota uses deceptive marketing (what the hell is HEV anyway), telling people they drive a self charging EV and the way they spread anti EV propaganda (especially in Japan). I don’t have a problem with their cars I have a problem with how they are actively trying to discredit BEVs. This is why even if they one day release good EV I will not be buying one.
@simplygregsterevАй бұрын
It's difficult to figure out what their "plan" is. While there is totally lobbying and mind games, I figure they are just trying to protect 20+ years of investment. A huge part of Toyota sales these days is fleets looking to lower emissions
@westcoastbestcoast88Ай бұрын
@ the first mass produced Prius was launched in 1997 in Japan. You’d think that over the last 27 years they would have gotten their investment back and then some using surplus to start investing in the next stage of true BEVs. But I guess the conservative side of the Japanese car industry always wins over and now other countries are running way ahead in EV tech like China.
@simplygregsterevАй бұрын
@@westcoastbestcoast88 I've been a professional auto mechanic for 20 years. When I first started my career I always figure that Toyota and Honda would be first with full mainstream BEVs by around 2010-2011. Especially Toyota being so far along with Hybrids. I never expected Nissan to beat them to market with the Leaf nor did I expect an American company (Tesla) to be the largest and kickstart the industry... When I was younger I always looked to Japan for the newest tech as they were just so far ahead... Sadly It's clear that Japan has been stuck in the year 2000 since 1995.. Toyota is a well rounded brand and I am sure they will figure it out, but just taking things slow and steady.

Nothing " deceptive " about their marketing. They can build 10 HEVs with the materials needed for one BEV. It's common sense math
