Cancel my Altitude order and got my deposit back. After crunching the numbers we found out we couldn’t tow 2.8 Ton let alone 3.5 as there’s not enough payload. Exactly. Very few 3.5T towing vehicles can actually realistically tow 3.5T except when empty, with just a driver and ½ a tank of fuel (less in some cases) along with no add-ons on the roof etc. 3.5T Tow ratings are really just to say you “COULD tow that boat across town if you need” to but that’s basically it. And you’d need to do it stock before you add any other weight to your vehicle.

IMHO from a 150 VX Owner who was looking to upgrade Positives - Looks great from the outside - Front dash and front seating area are excellent - Tech and screens look fantastic - 8 speed auto Negatives - Approx 10k + more expensive across the range - No gas struts for bonnet - 48 V mild hybrid adds complexity, and dubious benefits - Ad Blue addition and still has a DPF - Same carryover engine 2.8 L GD with no more power/torque - Seven seat set up is a backwards step with a much smaller amount of boot room/very high lip, plastic storage ‘box’ and lack of room for a fridge - Toyota says seats can’t be removed due to battery underneath - Weighs 250-300kg more - Cool box is much smaller than 150 on VX+ - Rear seats/2nd row don’t slide back-and-forth for more space - Only 2, 5 seat variants the GX and the altitude to avoid to limited boot space - Fuel tank is 110 L - less than 150 L from the Prado 150 - Smaller boot opening height than the 150 - no rear Diff lock in anything but the altitude - more models in old 150 have both - Payloads approx 100kg less than old 150’s - Stop start - Wheel not on the back, under car - Glove box and storage in the front is small I.e no sunglasses holder, storage above gearshift in cubby - Driver monitoring system annoyance - No space for a dual battery under bonnet -Sliding GVM kg, moves up and down depending on model grade. Previous Prado was fixed GVM for all models, with payload increasing as you went down the range with less kit. - Wait for the hybrid 2.4 L turbo from USA

Anyone buying this vehicle proves fools are easily parted with their money. Overpriced, old engine with after thought where to put the battery. Not to mention the max weight over that battery cover is 60kg. Sort limits what you can put in the boot. Plastic side steps, come on. You didn’t mention the ground clearance is a problem. Videos I’ve seen, people who have bought this are having to lift to get decent 4WD clearance. Then that engine noise. Oh and you have Ad Blue. The list goes on. Regarding the offroad traction mode : Center diff is a Torsen . This kind of diff multiplies the torque by a factor and send it to a wheel with more traction. , but it needs to have a bit traction to multiply it. 0 (zero) multiplied with anything is still 0 (zero). The conclusion if if you have no traction at all it cannot multiply the traction and send it to the other wheels.
@joby602Күн бұрын
Traction control should have sorted that though, by applying a bit of brake to the lifted wheel, meaning some torque can be applied to it. I'm surprised the system didn't do this by itself.

I’m a huge Toyota fan, but with this vehicle, they absolutely nailed the design (at least for me personally) and dropped the ball on everything else-price, engine, interior, tech features, and more. Honestly, the only thing I like about this car is its design. Come on, Toyota, you can do better!

What a disappointment. Ill stick with my 2015 Kakadu. Longer range tank, more boot space, easily accessible spare wheel, almost the same performance, less tech to go wrong, no adblue rubbish. No thanks. Yes it lacks the outright performance of an Everest, but even after 9 years and 190k it still drives like near new. No rattles, no squeaks all original bushes, suspension, etc, with just regular servicing. Not sure how well the new Everest will age. Only time will tell.

How is your dpf?
@Ryan4by42 күн бұрын
@amita1400 So far so good. But I go on regular long drives which helps. It's a touring vehicle and I love it for that. Fits the bill perfectly. Also, the dpf hardware and software got revised in 2021 and Toyota have agreed to replace it under their 10 year warranty. I'll be getting it replaced soon as a precaution before my car hits 10 years. By the way, Toyota aren't the only manufacturer with DPF problems. Ford, Mitsubishi, Volkswagen all have had DPF problems for years. The reason Toyota are in the limelight is because of the millions of Toyotas on the road and the expectation of reliability from their owners. Toyota are the only manufacturer that have acknowledged the problem (forcefully) and have compensated their owners, as well as extended the warranty on the DPF to 10 years. No chance any of the other manufacturers would do this. They leave their customers for dead.

Thanks Paul another great video. I had an expression of interest order on the GXL and had an hour long test drive last week. I thought it drove very well but agree with you the old 2.8 should have had a major update. The interior is very quiet with no noise or rattles but noticed some wind noise I think coming from around the mirrors at about 80 km. However my main gripe is the major flaw with the boot design which could be a deal breaker with the popular GXL, VX and Kakadu models. I hope the designers at Toyota get this sorted out asap! I think the Ford Everest V6 is still safe at the moment but for how long?

Thanks for the awesome review. Was totally shocked at how much space was taken up in the boot in all 5 models tho that 250mm height in the GXL, VX & Kakadu is ridiculous. Not to mention the adblue & loss of 150L fuel tank. These are some of the reasons I'm feeling very relieved that I bought one of the last brand new 2023 Kakadu's in May this year as I didn't like the look of the new FJ Cruiser looking Prado either. I think once people realise all the negatives with this newer model the 150 series Prado's are going to hold their value like nothing else.

I had two previous generation Ravs; comfortable, spacious, easy to drive, I enjoyed them. Bought the current generation Rav without a test drive; expensive, cramped interior, uncomfortable driving position, peaky engine, mismatched gearbox, I couldn't wait to sell it. I had the previous generation Prado; spacious, comfortable, felt absolutely solid with a touch of luxury. Except for want of a bit more power, I really liked it. This new generation Prado seems to have gone the way of the Rav. I've heard similar sentiments about the LC200 vs the LC300. (If anyone knows of tests comparing the old and new models, I'd appreciate the links.) But in general, I think Toyota is losing the plot a little...

What is in the air down under? All this whining from people who've been lapping up the toyota recipe since time immemorial. 1) toyota is a value not luxury brand. Expect intentionally underpowered simple powertrains, cheap hardwearing components like interior plastics and outdated technology. They are the kings of constraint for the sake of reliability and longevity. 2) Its 2024 everything is overpriced, who are they not to appropriately position their pricing according to the market. Yes there is a premium for that badge but it's not the end of the world. 3) Your country is seriously regulated, a blessing and a curse. That battery has to be there for the mild hybrid technology (if we can even call it that) as well as the swarm of safety features to pass regulation now and far into the future. Unfortunately this ramps up weight, pricing and complexity. Maybe just continue to buy Toyotas in astounding numbers quietly, find aftermarket solutions for the boot as you've always done with all other toyota shortcomings. They are still as reliable as ever, dont kid yourselves. Once they sort out a few teething problems as expected they'll run forever. If they can endure Africa's potholed roads with dirty fuel, cheap knockoff parts, minimal service all while overloaded 2 to 3 times if not more what they are rated at and still outperform most things on the road they'll be more than manageable in Australia.

i went to have a look at the seven seat VX yesterday.... sat in the front seat and it was fantastic.... feel of the new seats and comfort was great. asked to see the boot and the salesman apologised.... after opening up the rear door i could see why. the gaps between the seats and storage box are cavernous (7 seat)..... you could lose a small animal down there, (it is literally open) you can cover it with a rubber mat.... like my current GDJ150 (later shape). difference is the mat in my VX is for catching crap and saving the wear on the floor... in the new 250 it could be for covering up a turd which is the 22cm deep well that is the rear seats design. for a car that costs over $90k for the variant we were looking at... it was a 7 step walk away from the 7 seat versions for mine. such a shame for a aesthetically pleasing vehicle for the most part.
