The exterior of the Prius looks way better than the Civic (which looks older than its previous generation). However, I like the interior of the Civic than the Prius. Toyotas are proven to be more reliable than Hondas. Toyotas and Lexus cars have consistently been on top 1 and 2 rankings. Honda is there, but there were times when it even fell below the top 10. That means, my money goes to Toyota anytime.

Prius wins on PHEV option. Honda wins on delivery, you can actually get one while the Prius is semi vapourware. It boils down to this. We really are comparing a car that we can easily buy today (Honda) vs. a car we can buy in a couple of years. (Toyota). If you research the owner reviews and satisfaction with the dealers with regards to the recalls you will find a lot of very angry customers. We owned two Prius models for 16 years before buying our first PHEV Prime. Our positive experiences with the Gen 3 and then a Model C indicated another one would be sensible. In that 1.6 decades of ownership we never once had to "top-up" the oil after a combined 225,000km driven. That says an awful lot. We waited 21 months for delivery of the 2022 model we ordered. Wound-up with a 2024. Hurrah. The Gen 4 was gone by then so we received the new 5th Gen. We lost $2,000 in trade-in value on the C, and, paid for two model year price increases due to the long, long delivery. So, nine months later, the car has 8,000+ miles and we have burned only three tanks of fuel . The bloody thing does 0-60 in 6.48 (if that's important to you), and gives us very, very, close to 100km (62.5 miles), on a single charge. In short, it was worth the wait.

After the lease was up on our third Gen. 2008 Prius we opted for a Model C to replace it. At that time, our daughter had left for university and our 175lb Newfoundland Dog was gone. We didn't need the space anymore and, at around $10,00 cheaper the C was appealing . After 12 years the C was due to be replaced. What amazes most; our 2024 Prime delivers far better economy than the fractionally smaller C model. We can reach 100km on a charge, followed by 60+mpg in hybrid mode. Go with the SE trim, by far the most fuel efficient car available. We have driven 8,000+ miles on 32.5 gallons of gas.

Because we keep our vehicles for 15-20 years or 250K - 300K miles and because Toyota has been manufacturing hybrid vehicles for longer period and that they’re so much better in their design, I’d definitely go with the Prius AWD. But because we get so much snow in our area, and we need a higher ground clearance, we’d have to choose the RAV4 or the new Crown Signia hybrid or a Lexus NX AWD hybrid. My wife loves the Lexus NX AWD hybrid and the Crown Signia AWD hybrid, so after her 19 Outback (currently only 40K miles) wears out, I’m thinking that I’ll buy her the NX AWD hybrid as I’m sure that will be the last vehicle that she’ll ever have to own.
