Toyota is the real winner here. As mentioned, when they sort their truck issues out, they will likely climb back up a bit. As well, despite having the 2nd and 3rd spots (with Lexus and Toyota branded products), they also own parts of Subaru and Mazda (who finished 1 and 6 respectively).

As I see it, your advice to buy the most mature version of a model is spot on. I’ve always made a practice of this - rather than to buy the first iteration of a wholly new design. I have done this even from brands that have historically been rock solid. But this year I have made an exception and bought the 2025 Camry XLE AWD. Apart from some minor tweaks, it has essentially the same hybrid engine as its predecessor, and while some car reviewers have looked upon this as a negative, and a few even have chastised Toyota for misleading consumers, I see this as a point in its favor, at least where the reliability metric is concerned. Moreover, Toyota has the best warranty in the business, so even if an unhappy surprise should develop down the road, the consumer has some measure of security in their purchase.

@@carhelpcorner, by the way, I know that people who have a passion for cars almost invariably prefer a sports-tuned suspension and very responsive steering. In short, for them, handling and cornering are the order of the day. But I want to take issue with this to some degree. Of course handling needs to be among the criteria by which ANY motorized vehicle should be evaluated, but the weight we give to it should vary depending on the form factor of the model in question. For bona fide sports cars, such as Corvettes, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, etc, this consideration will naturally rank higher than it would for a full-size luxury sedan like the Toyota Crown or a Lexus. Likewise, while comfort is a criterion we rightly apply to all models, the weight we give to it will be higher for luxury sedans than for sports cars with a low center of gravity. But I don’t see many “car people” taking this into account. It’s as if they want all cars, no matter their class, to corner like a McLaren or Porsche. They don’t seem to calibrate their expectations to the class of car they review. This would be akin to film critics finding fault with a romance for its lack of car chases and explosions, or an action movie for its lack of romance. I don’t think you are “guilty” of this mentality - at least I don’t recall spotting it in your thoughtful reviews. But I have read that Toyota has tuned the suspension of even the 2025 Camry XLE so that it will be more responsive to the road, even as it will never be mistaken for its XSE counterpart. And now that I have driven the XLE, I can vouch for this. (I previously owned a 2023 Camry SE.) In the XLE, Toyota has struck a good balance between providing a comfortable ride while still giving the driver some degree of responsiveness and handling.

I tend to give a lot of weight to opinions expressed by Consumer Reports. Their testing model is less biased than almost all other models. They do not always get it right, but in a world where "marketing" is just another name for lying with almost no consequences I have to have something to believe in. As I indicated it is something I use as a tool, but not the only one. "Buyer Beware" has to be one's model when buying anything.

Have had 2 Audis. A4 passenger air bag went dead after warranty expires. A3 moonroof got stuck in open position. After warranty ( of course). $200 charge just to diagnose problem. Addtl 400 for a new switch. I loved the quality of their bodies. Definitely better than Japanese car bodies. But these problems would never happen on a Japanese car. I’m done with Audi. BMW- HATED the run flats. These expensive tires needed to be changed way too often. I’ve had my CX-5 now close to 3 years. Only routine maintenance after 46K. Nuff said.

@@carhelpcorner Same here. It’s unbelievable. Had a buddy who bought an A6 Years ago. $80,000. Back in the shop constantly with mainly minor albeit irritating issues. The last incident was he couldn’t get the trunk to open. In to the shop 3 times. The one that set him off was he couldn’t get his golf clubs out. And that was it. Bought a Honda Accord for $35,000 (with zero issues of course) and never bought a German car ever again. And still has the Honda over 10 years now!

The Top 10 Reliability cannot contain German and Korean lemons. There are only Japanese top brands (including Suzuki and Mitsubishi outside the USA) plus Porsche. Proof of that is that BMW and Audi are wobbling thru yearly rankings (Mini, last year #3 is now out) etc. Subaru with its score coming from only two models is not at all above Lexus and Toyota. Mazda is better than Subaru too.

german lemons? On America maybe but not on Europe
@codincoman901934 минут бұрын
@olympbarca3313 You might be out of your competencies here. I had huge car fleets and I got my experience first hand with a lot of brands - thousands of cars with their TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), documenting the actual figures against the budgeted ones for German, Czech, Spanish, Swedish, French, Romanian, Italian, Korean, American, British, Japanese cars. For the best results we went more than 15 years ago to mostly Japanese cars. The German cars were once very good because their purchase price was in line with their reliability, TCO etc. There are still a few good German cars (but very expensive, like the 911), but the planned obsolescence has damaged almost all brands since almost two decades ago. I am walking the talk: I now buy and drive only top Japanese cars after a few decades of German, French, American etc. cars. And your assumption is dead wrong, I am European. But I am not going to defend the fall of the European brands, especially the German and Italian ones. The figures don't lie and they trump your fan feelings. Why should I get an unreliable, with a huge TCO German clunker as long as I can get what I need and want from the top Japanese brands? I am financially free, why should I shoot myself in the foot?

People have their mindset about reliability standard. To me, BMW is always reliable within warranty period. That‘s why always buy brand new german luxury cars. Have no enough money? Dont worry, just skip it and dont even think to buy a used one or just keep saving and get more jobs if you can. These cars only for people who dont need to worry about the risk of losing money. The idea is to buy and then take it to dumpster when you get bored of it and trade for newer model. On the other hand, most people tend to buy the used one especially for cheap just to know how it feels to own and drive such thing but when they feel enough already, they just sell it back without doin further maintenance. At the end, the car breaks down even more, the price also plummets even deeper but they dont care. Just sell and get the money still better than lose it all. This cycle goes on and on endlessly till someone presummably the last owner put it in junkyard coz the car cant be saved or doesnt worth to fix at all.
