CIVIC competes with the camry which is better way roomier more refined more features and different looks. toyota has the best hybrid powertain out of all companies bc they been doing it for decades. and get the same if not more mpg with being a bigger vehicle more cargo. the only thing civic has is exterior looks but the corolla or camry beat the specs on the civic. especially the '22 corolla hybrid gets 60+mpg
@TheBreakfastLover

They both can reach 50+ mpg, but the Civic is actually quick (0-60 in 6.2 seconds), while the Corolla is really slow (0-60 in 9.0 seconds). By the time the Corolla hits 60, the Civic is over 8 car lengths ahead.

The Corolla is not actually a lot cheaper. This is because Corollas are in extremely low supply with only a 26 day market supply. Civics have a higher supply. On the other hand, you can buy a new Civic without markups, without pre-installed accessories, and even with a small discount

@@webcomment8895 Toyota Corolla is in very low supply. It has a 26 day market supply here in the USA. This means there's 10 hungry buyers for every available Corolla. Going from the Toyota to the Honda felt like such a relief, as I felt cramped in the Toyota all during my drive. Not having a spare tire is a problem for both, but at least the Corolla FWD models have space for you to fit a spare under the trunk floor if you buy one yourself. Not every flat tire is repairable with a fix a flat kit and roadside service can’t get you a new tire after hours and on holidays when all the tire shops are closed. Cars still need spare tires at least until self-sealing and run flat tires improve in quality and availability.

I told my daughter when she graduated from university, Dad would buy her a new car. Considered only the Corolla and Civic. Comparing entry level models (Canada), the Corolla was several thousands less and when comparing both with the 2.0 liter engine, the Corolla is significantly quicker: 8.2 sec vs 9.2 sec 0-60. The 2.0 liter in the Corolla (the 1.8 was dropped when refreshed for 2023) has more horsepower/torque and the CVT has an actual 1st gear to help get off the line. I absolutely wanted to avoid a turbo engine due to the possibility of the dreaded oil dilution problem in Honda's 1.5 turbo. Some may say this issue has been resolved, but it may be a factor as the engine ages. Also, there seems to be a general consensus that a normally aspirated engine will outlast a turbo engine due to less internal engine pressure. Keep in mind too that the oil that lubricates the engine also lubricates/cools a very hot turbo causing the oil to break down faster. Undoubtedly, the Civic is a more premium car with better driving dynamics with more passenger and cargo room. Personally I would prefer a Civic myself. However, when it came time for a new car for myself, I chose the aging 2024 gas only Camry over the newer Accord for much the same reason except the price difference was even more pronounced. If Honda had stayed with a normally aspirated engine and traditional automatic (though I'm a fan of manuals), I may not have even considered the Camry.

These twos are not even in the same league anymore. The difference in powers between the twos with nearly identical MPG make the Civic Hybrid much more impressive. The MPG can easily even out or closer if the Civic uses a very narrow set of tires just like the Corolla. Unless you're driving on sand or mud, AWD won't be necessary. FWD with winter tires will do very well in the snow without the need for AWD. As a matter of fact, AWD is actually worse in on-road snow driving beside off the line traction (I lived in Alaska, so I know). The Civic is now much closer in comparison to the Camry, which the Camry is a better choice for some folks.

I agree with you. I think 16" is the more appropriate size for this size of car. FYI, the Civic hybrid's tire size is 235/40/18; way overkill! I rather save $1000 on the price and get 10% better MPG, better ride and longer and cheaper tire replacement.

With a hybrid, anything that hinders efficiency should be optional... sure, we can swap wheels, but that's asking us to incur more costs and inconvenience to fix Honda or Toyota's mistake. Bare minimum: dealers should swap wheels and refund the customers the difference in costs between 18's" and 16's"

It's bad enough these Hondas are made in Canada and America, but to have to deal with rubber-band tires on top of that?

Seems like an apples to oranges comparison. I'd take the Corolla in a walk because I place zero value on the Civic's extra performance, space and higher end finishes. For me, money spent on those things is flushed down the toilet. For someone who values those things, it's the Civic all day long. I'd like to see a cost comparison between the Civic and the lower end versions of the Camry, which seem like better competitors for the Honda cost-wise. Something for everyone. Cheers!

Do the hatchbacks have more space? … actual, practical space BEHIND the backseat… Don’t be fooled by the hatchback scam… to get that storage space advantage, you must fold down the rear seats Otherwise, the sedans have larger load floors, and, hence, hold more cargo practically and safely than a hatchback.

@ivanidread Yes, if you're buying a vehicle that is only a couple of years old, you're probably better off buying it brand new. Maybe it's just the way how I word it, but what I really meant was that if you are on a very tight budget, you're better off just buying a very cheap car to get you by rather than financing a vehicle that you can't really afford. Some of my co-workers make more money than me but they drive old beater cars that are extremely cheap and easy to work on.
