My first time hearing these two talk, and am an immediate fan. The points and items they discuss are things the common person doesnt likely care about. Only true enthusiasts or thinkers talk about these things. Toyota obviously thought through these details, and it was worth the wait..(IMO)

I whole heartedly agree. Finally a review that was honest yet not a fan boy take. Plus I’m tired of hearing the complaints of the new 4 cylinder and the reluctance to change. Toyota had no choice but to do this due to emission requirements, and they def did their best to pay homage to previous gen’s which I appreciate

Kurt, Ryan, and Rachelle have probably forgotten more about Toyotas than most people ever know... Rachelle has taken the new Tacoma Trailhunter through some serious dunes and has the background of an accomplished off road racer. The comments about the difference between the Fox and Old Man Emu suspension are probably beyond many influencers. XO has experience with the i-Force Max hybrid in a Sequoia over probably 6,000 km off road in Africa, mostly towing a fuel trailer! Anyone that doesn't trust Toyota's hybrid reliability in these trucks isn't paying attention!

Why is nobody mentioning the obvious which is the Land Cruiser is retro, the new 4Runner is not at all retro styled. Land Cruiser is is to compete with those who would buy a 4-door Wrangler or Bronco for the retro styling but want Toyota quality and brand image. Whereas, 4Runner is a more youthful spirit targeted vehicle.

The KZbin hype machine lol I'll NOT give up my 5th gen for this lol, ever. That Glorious 4.O V6 is the pinnacle of reliability! I am (however) getting the GX550 Overtrail, but keeping my 4Runner, just like I still have the FJ Cruiser my dad bought for me, 13-14 years ago, when I was 16 years old! They will both be worth a fortune, eventually lol

Its very hard to not be bias as you guys working so closely to Toyota. I would prefer the 6 cylinder (the same 6 cylinder as the tundra) without a turbo and no hybrid over the 4 banger turbo hybrid. The battery eats up too much space.

The Tundra is a turbo, they had wastegate problems on the first Tundras.
@healer81
@healer81 8 ай бұрын
@@J.Young808 I'd like to think they solved that problem and if they just used the 6 cylinder without the turbo it would distinguish itself from the gx and the land cruiser prado that should ideally have the 6 cylinder with a turbo which it does not. The 4 runner closed the gap between them and the bronco but the bronco still is a step or two above it. Especially since you can build a bronco with a v6.

I'm curious why not go ahead and make the trail hunter and trd pro full time 4 wheel drive with part time 4 low and 4 high? I feel like it could turn off a segment of buyers that want the cool top trims but want to have a full time 4 wheel drive for on the road wet and snowy conditions. Also, why no front locking diff? I'd think to fully complete with bronco and wranglers they'd finally do a true front locker. Overall huge improvements but at least as of now I feel like to get the perfect 4runner I would want to piece them together. Trail hunter but want the sun roof the TRD pro has and the full time 4 wheel drive of the limited. Hopefully there will be options to add.

I'm wondering if ARB is going to offer rear and front bumpers with the red recovery points like the Taco. Center console cool box availability and I do wish they would've figured out a way to have a completely flat rear area with the second row seats folded flat. It's still not perfectly flat like on my '06 Pathfinder. Also, I've yet to see anybody mention that hook that's below the grab handle on the passenger side that looks perfect for takeout bags to hang from. Also interested in color options. I do hope that desert tan color on the Pro will be available on the Trailhunter. It a perfect color for getting dirty.

Do you think the 9.5" diff is just bc its hybrid max? Maybe that was the only version they showed the hybrid in, rather than being trailhunter-specific. Reason I ask is b/c 465 ftlbs of torque is 64 more than even the 5.7L Sequoia had. So thinking that might be why the big diff...

I am not a fan of the 4.0--poor economy and performance. By comparison a supercharged 3.4 from the 3rd gen 4Runner made more power and torque and still get 19-20 MPG. Toyota hybrids are the best in the business and I feel confident it will be reliable. This is the first powertrain Toyota has produced since the SC'd 3.4 that gets me excited to own a newer Toyota.
@BelchevKalin

Yes and I don't get that "Ohh it's a 4 banger with turbo it will not be reliable!". Toyota makes turbo engines for decades. They know how to do it and this engine is not new, it already has been tested in other vehicles. I want to see those guys and gals when this engine gets to 500k miles without any problems. And as you've said Toyota hybrids are the best in the business. Also there are first gen hybrid batteries that are at 70% after, what, 20+ years now? And that technology came a long way now

Notice all the fake cheesy marketing comments. It's such a joke. Notice all the cargo space lost to the batteries, of course you are going to need that roof rack to carry all the stuff that won't fit in the back. The big hump in the cargo area looks like putting them back there was an after thought. I'd rather have the 6 than a turbo. The dealer cold called me trying to buy my 3 Gen Tacoma, because they nobody wants the new models. I'm sure they'll be calling about our 4-runner as well.

good review - for my money it’s hard to get excited about a 4 banger tho - big turn off on the land cruiser too

Admittedly, I'm old school. I over-landed from South Africa to the UK with a 1974 Land Rover a while back. So why, oh why, did Toyota add air-conditioned seats and a motorized rear tailgate to the 6th gen? Both are redundant added weight and a problem waiting to happen when they fail. I put them in the category of "unless luxe". On a positive note, love the look! Can anyone comment on the additional weight of the hybrid vs the non-hybrid? I couldn't find weight specs. I think I read that the hybrid battery pack is NiMH.....that can't be right???

The Toyota 4 runner is one of the best SUVs ever! But something about the jeep Wrangler that makes me prefer it.

This vehicle shouldn’t be promoted in any way. Toyota will manufacture far less than what the market demands and these Trailhunters will be impossible to purchase without a pre-order, a one year wait, and a dealer markup of at least $20K.
