How can I not be excited about it? 250-260mile range is garbage for a vehicle I would love and would want to road-trip in. Thing needs to be a PHEV 80-100mile ev range and a 3 cylinder gas engine ”range extender” to be a legit US road-trip machine.

I would love to buy one of these for family road trips, but with an expected sub-300 mile range (and I suspect the real-world number will be significantly less), it's just not in the cards. Hope I'm wrong, but I feel like folks who jump on buying these right out of the gate are setting themselves up for headaches if they think it will be a practical vehicle for families.

Something that non-EV owners don’t tend to realize is that pure range numbers aren’t really all that important with EVs for long trips. What’s more important is charging speed and miles per kW efficiency. Charging speed is something where this EV isn’t quite up to spec with faster charging platforms like Hyundai, but at the same time I think it’s reasonable enough. When you road trip an EV you’re not charging to 100% battery except at the beginning at home, so the only place your car’s range affects your trip time is the time between your home and the first charge. The longer the trip, the less your car’s range capability matters, because having a larger battery just means more time spent at DC fast charging stations., On a road trip you’re more likely to be keeping the battery between 20 and 80% to maximize charge speed. Don’t forget that 200 miles is 3 hours at 65 mph. So really, it’s a question of whether you’re the type of driver who is going to want 30 minutes break every 3 hours or if you’re the type to power through. Also, European carmakers tend to state range conservatively compared to Tesla who overstates their range (just check out Edmunds’ rankings).

It feels like ages because it has been ages. I think this is going to be a hit as long as they get the pricing right. Not saying that’s any kind great insight. I think it looks awesome and is going to offer people a seriously cool minivan with minivan practicalities. They got the specs right with range and horsepower on both the AWD and the FWD/RWD (?). I’m a fan of knobs and buttons so the biggest drawback in the design for me is the infotainment system and the steering wheel controls. These are better than what they put in the ID4 I expect, but to me they reinvented the wheel by making it square. So this will have its own niche in the market and I don’t think they’ll be able to make enough of them. I mean, unless, you know, once again… the price.

My family has needed a new family vehicle for 2-4 years. We have put it off because of Covid, inflated prices, pent up demand, etc. We finally narrowed it down to a Toyota Sienna, R1S or this thing. We have been waiting and waiting... I think we order one of the three in the next 6 months and we honestly need the vehicle before fall 2025. We might be forced to order the Toyota or R1S soon and stop considering this.

Don't use the AC or HEat or you'll be down to 200 and a HALF hr charge wait minumum on a FAST Charger if you can find one. On you 220v charger it's only NINE Hours!!! I'll keep my Caravan.

Businesses have been asking for a reasonably priced bare-bones cargovan like this could be if everything was ripped out: no finishes, interior body panels, seats or radio. There's no shortage of customers. Manufacturers are hypnotized by luxury market margins. They whine that there's fewer sales but they don't want to make to scale what people really want. The first one to make a boxy minivan will corner the market. It's like they are little boys who don't want to grow up.

I'm a huge fan of VW. That being said...WTF is VW doing the interior is complete garbage. VW this looks like a soccer mom's, trashed out bottom trim mini-van. Get ride of the mini-van slider. French door it or gull wing it. Put hard wood style floors and swivel front seats. Rear fold down bench seats a table maybe a refrigerated water cooler. This is a joke, coming from someone who loves there VW Atlas.
