‪@volkswagen_usa‬ introduces an all new Tiguan for 2025, which, yes, is big news. However, hidden within the all new for 2025 ‪@VolkswagenUSANews‬VW Tiguan is a major change that impacts all Volkswagens moving forward: An apology in the shape of a huge fix to the VW ID.4 originated infotainment system.

Indeed it is. BMW is a hot mess these days. I left the brand after 22 years of loyalty to VW to never look back. People that want the BMW badge will always lease or buy one regardless of the exterior design or the quality of the interior.

That’s a sharp looking rig inside and out. I’m sure the R Design package is what sells it for me. Nice that you get Bentley’s “knurling specification” on the knob. And I’m sure it doesn’t cost a couple thousand extra like it does on a Bentley.

Thank you for so vehemently pointing out the difference between a German car (and why people buy them) over a Japanese car. Nobody buys a German car for dependability (Porsche maybe?), rather, its driveablity.

It would be amazing if they gave the US the full R model! That's on the shorter wheelbase though, which we don't get either. We will get the phev next year they said. It will have a total of 275hp, and 62 miles of electric only range. That will work for me! (He says in this video that we won't get the phev, but I read differently just yesterday.)

Not certain where you read that, but I spoke to many folks at VW USA and they were VERY clear there are no plans to bring the PHEV to the US. I impressed upon them that if they can bring the PHEV over with pricing that is in the high 30s, it would be a rock star. Will they do that? Probably not.

@jeffs6090 NO WAY we get it for 2026 model year. I just read an interview from a VW exec and they specifically said they don't even know if they will bring a regular Hybrid OR a Plug-in stateside just yet. But what they DO KNOW is that it will only be 1 of them (NOT both), whichever one they choose will be for the Atlas and Tiguan, AND they said 2027 or 2028. Facts.

Autoline reported that VW said if the US Tiguan were to get electrification it wouldn’t happen before mid cycle refresh and it wouldn’t be both plug in and non plug it would be one or the other. After watching this I think it’s safe to say it will only be the non-plugin. And it’s a safe guess that if in two years we haven’t heard VW announce publicly that the hybrid is on its way to the US, it’s not coming at all on this build of the Tiguan in the US. How disappointing. And I wonder if Canada is treated the same or if they will import European cars to them at some point. I’m assuming Canada may have stricter emissions rules than the US going forward.
@ThirdCoastGems

@briancorreia2923

@ Usually it’s just trim levels and options that are different. Canada sometimes doesn’t get all the trim levels and often they get heated seats and steering wheels standard or if a car offers all wheel drive and two wheel drive in the US Canada gets only the AWD version. But there are entire models that come to Canada that the US never gets. A good example that’s relevant here that comes to mind….Canada got the BEV version of the Kia Soul that I don’t believe ever came to the States. But there are more examples. If you live in a northern border state and see an Asian car companies vehicle that you don’t recognize, it’s probably from Canada.

I like it. The interior is a Homerun. Big change from the MK2. Misses? Needs 19HP more and not offering the PHEV model is a huge strategic mistake in part of Volkswagen Group of America. Hopefully the new CEO (Pablo De Si was ousted this week), will reconsider bringing over the PHEV. I would also argue this new MK3 is far more compelling purchase than the Atlas. It is all the SUV most people would ever need sans the 3 row.

Amazing listen, reaction, & course-correct by VW! Now if BMW & Merc would smell the coffee the world would be so much better for it. And MotoMan, arguably your best most concise '1 man's opinion' yet. Nail-on-head stuff. Bravo sir, bravo. My only wonder is regarding the engine. One of my main no-sale items on the Tiguan was the wimpy engine. Up to 201hp is great, but wondering why they just didn't adopt the old Mk7 GTI mill (that's in my wife's '24 Q3). Makes 228hp, 228 torque on regular unleaded & is a proven reliable engine.

You answered your own question. If you want more HP, VW group will gladly sell you an Audi. Not what you want to hear, but it’s definitely the reason why. Now, if you aren’t concerned about keeping your engine under warranty, the EA888 is one of the most tunable engines ever made and can give you Audi levels of HP and torque.

Bitch of mine: Daughter got a 1 up from base trim '24 Taos. It has more features in it than the wife's '24 Q3. i.e. remote start, wireless CarPlay, heated steering wheel... VW has struggled to become a software company. While other companies decided to use Google as their foundation for infotainment (Volvo for example), VW thought they could do it all themselves. In some instances they use Android Automotive as a foundation in other instances they use Linux and customize it. So they have tech platform inconsistency across their variety of products. Which makes development and maintenance slower and more expensive. Over the air update capabilities are not as robust as they should be. In either case they create their own custom UI/UX, which has improved over the years, but was certainly hellacious in the early years. Tesla can get away with no buttons because people who drive Tesla’s want the EV appliance experience. Don’t be fooled by Tesla or anyone else who doesn’t offer buttons, a buttonless driving experience is all about saving production costs. It decreases safety, and increases driver distraction. Tesla is in the process of getting rid of the shift knob, not for functional improvements but to save money. So it’s nice to see VW has added back some buttons. VW in the interest of saving production costs didn’t use fast enough CPU’s in many of their designs. This made for sluggish response times, which were made worse due to inefficient software coding as VW was and still is learning how to be a software company. It’s taken VW a solid 7 years to figure out how to be a somewhat capable software developer. This is an area where Tesla is the absolute leader in the industry. Tesla also designs their own in car processors for superior performance and capabilities. Tesla started as a software company trying to figure out how to physically build cars. VW started as a company that was excellent at building physical cars, but they struggled to learn how to build software. So the new Tiguan might be the first modern VW product I’d consider purchasing because they have finally done a decent job with software development and the UI/UX. VW still struggles with how to use their German heritage in developing, marketing and selling their cars in the US. Even as far back as the Pennsylvania-built VW Rabbit, VW mistakenly Americanized the Golf. Then they went through the Das Auto German-focus phase, which is probably where they should have stayed. Then swung back to Americanized VW’s with the exception of the GTI. In all cases, compared to their competition, they always seemed to come up short. In terms of features and functions, horsepower, overall performance and price point. Even when cars were being built in the US or Mexico. Interior build quality in terms of parts quality took a distinctive and obvious path downward (but that’s happening at BMW too, just look at the interior of the new X3). This trend may be reversing with this new Tiguan. Dieselgate didn’t help the brand either. So especially in the world of appliance-like EV’s, VW needs to emphasize their German heritage as a differentiator in the marketplace. And VW shouldn’t worry about their products nipping at the heels of entry level Audi products. Competition is good, even within the same company.

@@Pamlicojdjdj1487 I agree that what you said was the company line given to all the editors/influencers who did 20 min videos. BUT what I said also comes into play in the weight reduction. All models/trims are 2-3 shorter now, and all non AWD models will not have a third row anymore.

Why are some people obsessed with physical buttons? Now VW ruined the steering wheel controls with a bunch of busy-looking obsolete buttons.

DON'T PRICE THIS ABOVE $45K FOR THE TOP MODEL. PERIOD. Needs more HP, more colors, bring the 3rd row back, gimme back my 3 inches y'all shortened it from the 2nd Gen (current model), and lastly CALL THIS A 2026 since dealers won't even get the first ones until JULY 2025...... RIDICULOUS.

Its now bigger and roomier. The 3rd row was a gimmick. The sliding/reclining seats, however, were not.
@ThirdCoastGems
@ThirdCoastGems Ай бұрын
@krane15 It "may" be "roomier", although since VW didn't have measurements for the interior volume at release (or days after) we don't know that. Also the new second row center seat willbe useless since the floorboard has a big axel going down the middle. As for "bigger" that is not true whatsoever. The wheelbase has been shortened by 2 inches, the length by 3 inches, and even the height is shorter. This is VW trying to push people either into the Taos camp or the Atlas camp. No more quasi-caterory vehicles. Sub-compact, Compact, or Mid-size SUV. Facts.

I am now selling Volkswagens. And my god the UX is terrible. I was just, today driving around in a brand new 2024 Atlas SEL R-Line. (Fully loaded) the car is fantastic. The UX is absolutely laughable

The issue with this is that I can no longer recommend a VW with a straight face due to that UX. No matter how perfect the GTI and Golf R. Should this massive change casade to other VWs, they would go back on my recommend list.

I love the MIB3 8” screen with dual knobs in my 2023 Arteon SEL Premium R-Line 4Motion purchased brand new earlier this year. I also own a 2023 MK8 GTI SE DSG and haven’t had any issues with the infotainment system. To me some of these complaints are blown out of proportion here in the internets for the sake of clicks and controversy. But hey that is my unsolicited opinion😂. MIB4 looks nice but the screens are just huge and reliability of the UX still unknown. Only other vehicle sold in the US with MIB4 was the 2024 ID.4 know on national stop sale😂

@@MotoManTVI disagree MotoMan. I believe you are an extremely knowledgeable reviewer and agree 99% on your assessments but can’t get onboard on this one. I have owned my 2023 MK8 GTI SE for almost 2 years and neither the infotainment UX nor the haptic steering wheel buttons have been a problem or impediment in the daily use and enjoyment of the car. We can agree to disagree but it seems most YT reviewers and the automotive press at large have latched on this bandwagon for far too long. Respectfully, most reviewers don’t live with these cars for more than a few hours or days at a time and instantly hate on it😂. Like I said, I am a picky guy and here I am loving my GTI. VW got the MK8 chassis and handling dynamics + powertrain at the right sweet spot and that’s what truly matters to me. If I want more buttons and a physical shifter, I have gorgeous and fast 2023 Arteon SEL Premium 4Motion sharing space in my garage for that.😉
