They certainly don't make them like they used to, especially from the 1980's to 1990's. Had VW/AUDI for the last 40 years, everything from a 1970 Beetle, MK1,MK2, MK4 Golf GTI, Polo's, Passats, Audi TT"s. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was my last Passat B5 2 litre petrol estate. Loved the car, half decent fuel economy, comfy, great on a long run, but it just fell to pieces after around 90,000 miles. Both driver and passenger windows fell into the doos without warning due to the windows being mounted on plastic runners which go brittle after about 5 years. Water in the drivers footwell from flooded battery tray. Flooded passenger footwell a few months later due to the same thing, only this time it wrecked the ECU which is under the footwell carpet of all places! All fixable, which I did, but the last thing that pissed me off was, got in it to go to work one morning, started her up and a terrible rattle came from the top of the engine, only for about 3 seconds aftet starting. My excellent independent mechanic diagnosed a sticking cam bucket to one of the valves. That was it for me, she had to go! Now in a Mazda 6 2 litre petrol estate. Absolutely fabulous. Nice sporty drive, megga comfy and ridiculously economical on petrol. Rarely drops below 35 mpg around town, and easily 45 mpg plus on the motorway at a steady 80 mph. 4 years of trouble free motoring so far, looking for a new one now. By the way, the knackered Passat had full service history with sometimes a bi annual oil service. I for one shan't be going back .

There is a big difference in India's workforce, for example, we find some laxity and lack of sincerity in work. Sometimes we find some fraud in the raw material used to make spare parts, and this affects the quality of the product. As for the German factory, it is completely the opposite.

VW has lost its image, especially after this stupid decision on focusing to electric power. Now they will spend billions to reshape the company. Many years ago people were laughing on KIA, when they produced cheap but highly unreliable cars. Now situation is tragic - VW is producing very expensive and unreliable cars. I have been driving Passat for many years in row, and can say that since 2010 those cars with each new becoming less reliable and very expensive for repair. If to look from design perspective, it also disaster - just look at the latest Passat, it is ugly, and expensive. Who really need Passat for 50K, if you can buy even better SuperB for 42K? Sadly, but I think this is the last Passat generation. Model which really raised up the VW is now killed.

You lost your image by talking about unreflected things. You can‘t destroy a brand like VW after so many decades of world wide domination. Even after some bad decisions like in the lets say last ten years. The change is full in progress. Better times will come. I hipe soon. P.S. Some people really like the look of the new Passat. Not so boring and fresh looking. Tastes are different ;-)

@@Joerg1One Who said something about destruction? I said that this stupid focus on electric power only will cost billions. Look at the industry, and name one of big players who has focused to electric only, except Tesla. And regarding Passat, the new one. Even car sharing companies are avoiding new Passat.

VW forgot how to make reliable cars, no wonder they are in trouble. The construction quality is brilliant, what hurts the brand is stupid choices in planned obsolescence such as plastic water pumps that leak and fail young, feeble under hood plastics that fail young, DSG transmissions that have reliability and longevity issues, cabin plastics that go brittle after 4 or 5 years. Basically, there is an excellent car at the core there, I am astounded why these small changes can't be made.
