It's not gonna pass emission in the EU, so only for MotoGP. CP4 for MT10 is prolly still going to be there since it's designed for more low end torque. But they discontinued the CP4 for the R1 since high revs can't pass the emissions anymore. I think this is the end of 1000cc 4 in line high revving engines, farewell screaming supersports.

R9 vs. R6 (people comparing the R9 to the R1 are smoking the good stuff - it's 60% the cost of the R1) 117.3hp@10.000rpm vs. 116.7hp@14.500rpm - less stress on the engine and a lot less manic riding style 93Nm@7.000rpm vs. 61.7Nm@10.500rpm - 50% (!!!) more punch, less stress on the engine and a lot less manic riding style 320mm Brembo Stylema monoblocs with Brembo master cylinder vs. 320mm Nissin monoblocs with Nissin master cylinder - Brembo is obviously the superior system 43mm KYB Separate-Damping Front Fork with adjustable high- and low-speed compression damping on the left leg, rebound damping on the right leg, and preload vs. 43mm KYB with both fork legs handling compression and rebound damping together - meaning more granular adjustments fully-adjustable shock with remote preloading vs. fully-adjustable shock without remote preloading - meaning no tools required arguably the best QS implementation of any motorcycle on the market today (the smoothness of the upshifts and the downshifts and the possibility of shifting down while accelerating and shifting up while decelerating) vs. rudimentary upshift-only QS 55.9-inch wheelbase (longer), 22.3-degree rake / 3.7-inch trail (more aggressive) vs. 54.1-inch wheelbase (shorter), 24-degree rake / 3.82-inch trail (more relaxed) - this warrants thorough testing because more aggressive steering geometries favour nimbleness over stability but longer wheelbases favour stability over nimbleness 11.5:1 CR vs. 13.1:1 CR - less stress on the engine and possibly more fuel options 830mm vs. 850mm - easier to live with for anyone under 6ft 195kg vs. 190kg - not ideal, but the price to pay for more advanced electronics, and that difference won't affect your riding in any substantive way more IMU-based state-of-the-art electronics than one can wrap their head around vs. primitive ABS and intrusive TC - convenience, safety and smoothness vs. choppiness cheaper adjusted for inflation vs. more expensive adjusted for inflation - more people can buy it, ride it and track it Objective data strongly suggests the R9 will be the more complete bike, but no one can say for sure which one will ride better until they've ridden both. I recently rode my XSR900 against a few R6's on a track; in the low-skill hairpins (for me at least), TC stomps all over bikes that don't have TC, and performance TC even more so. Maybe if you're a great rider, but TC turns what is a very scary business into a non-issue. All those bikes with TC...yeah you can feel the tire squirming but you just open the throttle more without worrying about a highside.

more weight, worse chassis, worse suspension. theres more to the bike than the engine. not to mention on track the downsides of the 600 powertrain dont exist in the way they do on the street where low end matters. this is a significantly more budget product than the r6. youre comparing a muscle car to a sports car, yes the power may be the same but the end product is very different.

@Legend57. Personally, I don't hate it. It will no doubt be very good, but I'm a touch underwhelmed. I think the GSXR750 as a sports road/ track bike, is the benchmark. @danlford3 ай бұрын
Well the reason it has to be defended is because people cant understand what this bike is. much in the same way people incorrectly thought the r7 was a replacement for the r6 people are thinking the r9 is a replacement for the r1. It is not a replacement for either but it would be more for the r6 than the r1. I think its a sportbike with decent power that will be a way better street bike than the r6 was.

@@danlford I get what you're saying but i've been riding a lot of years and I have to say this defensive position is relatively new. Same with cars and the Toyota GT86 with lots of defense why it's ok to lack torque and it's "all about the fun on the road" etc. When it does lack torque and is a bit limp compared its looks. I get that 200+bhp superbike animals are mostly poor road bikes but this fails for me because it's loaded with tech and winglets etc like it's a top-end superbike but is actually a supersport 600 equivalent but much heavier (195kg dry)... @ShindigTrader47Sundeck its the way of the world. Emissions regulations are killing sport bikes. If nit for that I'm sure yamaha would have kept the r6 around, and the r1 ,which is still available over here, but when you stack poor sales on top of strict regulations you really have nowhere to go. As far as the hp goes on this bike it looks bad because it's a "900". Lots of people accocoate power and top speeds with cc. If you're on a 1000cc super bike right now of course you want nothing to do with this bike. I'm on an 03 fz1 that I think puts out around 120 hp on a 1000cc inline four derived from the 99 r1. Quick heads up. The frames on this may be a bit on the weak side if the higher than normal gen3/4 MT09 frame failures are anything to go by. The frame is not similar to the old R1's rectangular hollw section, its a new monocoque type basically C section type beams with diagonal ribbing inside. Lighter and maybe stiffer but not as strong overall. The frame breakages usually result from people fitting single mounting point sliders... so if you are going to get one and fit sliders, make sure its a double/triple mounting point type.... if such a thing is even possible on a faired bike?

If this solidly enters a racing group (MotoAmerica and the like), I expect the 3-banger to get some custom work. It's a strong block, taking double the power with turbos and such and not grenading. What CO2 emissions do Superbikes really add to the world compared to every other ICE & huge manufacturers/factory emissions? It’s such a shame that bikes like the R1 have to be culled otr due to ever increasing & tighter emission rules.. The fact this has an IL3 engine and not a parallel twin is a huge plus.. I like it 👌🏼

I think a lot of people misunderstand the R9. The fact that they gave it a completely new chassis on top of adding suspension and brakes that are above even the level of an R6, says a lot about how serious they are. If they were going for a watered-down sportbike for the road, they would have simply slapped fairings on an MT09 like they did with the R7. This is absolutely intended to replace the R6 in most of the classes it races in, and some of those have already been confirmed. At the same time, the CP3 engine makes it way more attractive to the masses, most of which spend >90% of their time on public roads and not the track. Boatloads of torque at any RPM, slightly more relaxed ergonomics (which can easily be adjusted back to R6-levels btw) and even things like cruise control are all going to help soften the blow of riding a supersport on the road and should help lure in a lot of people who would otherwise not be in the market for one. Lastly, the CP3 has tons of potential. I suspect simply plucking it from the parts bin allowed them to hit that aggresive price point (also, 117hp is plenty for the road), but in race-spec, it shouldn't be hard to get 140-160hp out of that engine. I think Yamaha has a real winner on their hands here, this bike has the potential to breathe some new life into the supersport class. I get that 10 more hp would have been nice, but I think Yamaha is rightfully more interested in keeping the price down and selling a lot of them.

Here in YT there are some track day videos of advanced riders going very very well on a stock MT-09 possibly with an exhaust system, yes, on tracks where the bike would outrun out of the exit those on bikes where a higher gear would be needed. Think Yamaha will make some of us very happy with this sport bike since we are not really looking for the right gearing and be always at 14-15k revs, at least not me, not yet :)
@CurtisBrandt3 ай бұрын
@@JoeStanek-vu7rl in my mind we have to be very careful what we compare this to. It’s absolutely not comparable to the R1. It’s well between the R6 and R1 in various ways. Whether we like this bike will heavily depend upon our expectations of it. As a stand-alone thing, I think it’s cool. It’s a long way up from a 600 in terms of torque, and it’s a long way down from an R1 in terms of power.

@Legend57. Hence why I originally said the Japanese have given to pushing the envelope
@benjy2883 ай бұрын
@Legend57. Cutting their loses is another way of saying they've given up chasing the top, instead they seem more focused on producing good enough bikes that are relatively affordable, and hoping they sell enough of them to make a profit, for example hardly any of their bikes have twin spar alloy frames anymore, where back in the early 90's even their 250 and 400 4 cylinder sports bikes had twin spar alloy frames, with fully adjustable suspension too, now a lot of their bikes are just parallel twins with steel frames, with a preload only adjustable shock, and usually non adjustable forks, about their only high performance sports bikes are their 600cc and 1000cc race reps, and they seem to be dying off too, the R1 isn't going to be updated to euro 5, the R6 is no longer sold as a road bike, the gsxr1000 is being discontinued in Japan and Europe due to euro 5, all they have to do is update them to meet euro 5 standards, but it seems they've deemed it not cost effective to do so, so they've given up.

I like the engine in the way it feels. But it is one noisy engine. Had the gen 3 MT09 and I couldn't stand all the darn noises the engine made that sounded like it was gonna break down. Cam chain tensioner ticking (but it was fine), valves ticking, gearbox rattling on neutral, clutch basked had some seriously weird noises. And I bought it new. My GF:s MT07 sounds like it will run forever.

cant say i liked the headlight arrangement with the new series - combined with the knowledge that its based of another bike it yells compromise. but i think it looks fine on the r9 and i think it'll be a nice replacement for the r6. but it'll be a slow sell to start with because people want innovation, not just bolt on bits and a fresh dress. feels like only ducati are still pushing the envelope with sport bikes. this alone wouldn't be a problem because most bikes are still great rides, but it comes against a backdrop of the rest of the world recycling/milking older ideas and throwbacks in all media for the sake of money. the world is sick of staring at yesterday
