R6 Screaming like a F1 car at 15k RPM+, the feeling and sound is Pure Joy. At 11k you feel like you should shift, at 12k you feel like your engine should be exploding any second, at 13k is when the beautiful Harmony of sounds melt together, sound as one, you begin to feel a Calm Bliss where you KNOW you can get to 16,500 RPM without fear of breaking it, 14k, 15k and 16k flash by like smooth butter as you're in this Bliss zone. Only two machines can make this sound; an old F1 car and a R6. R9 is it's own thing, and that's cool in it's own right. But THE reason why many (most?) will always love & prefer their R6 can never be found on stats, paper, comparison chart, etc.

The hard truth is not a lot of riders go to track days and most supersports don't ever see the ride they're intended for. Rider geometry and having to ring out the motor to really get going isn't something a majority of riders want. Not too many people want to ride for an hour and then spend the next day laid out because their back hurts. The fault of the four cylinder decline is a matter of changing tastes for what the average rider wants in a machine.

@@JamesFend I have a couple rides on my channel in the canyons. Hardest part about riding the bike correctly is to keep the weight off the handle bars. Back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s 4 cylinders were the norm because with the technology at the time it was the most reliable way to make power but with todays technology we can make smaller more efficient engines that make just about as much power. Perfect example is the 890 Duke R LC8c, with only two cylinders it makes just as much power as an R6, sounds better and has almost double the torque. Smaller engines with the same power means lighter bikes that’ll be better handling and better for everyday riding which should be the market target for companies. The hyper bike market is not gonna keep motorcycling alive, regular, average riders will.

50% more torque, actually. But also 50% less RPM. It's really all about gearing because if they had the same weights and the same top speeds in each gear (meaning gearing compensated for RPM), both 117hp or whatever bikes should accelerate evenly at all speeds. Power to weight+Gearing and for speeds over 30-50mph, power to drag. That's what makes a vehicle fast.

Sounds better than an r6 lol I realize it's subjective, but no twin sounds as good as a four to me, not even close.
@Drunken_Hamster
@Drunken_Hamster Ай бұрын
@@Ehal256 It is, indeed, very subjective then. Because twins tend to sound better to me (like a muscle car), even though I'll freely admit that fours sound crazier. This is where I think triples strike an equally great balance as they did with size vs power vs torque vs revs. Triples have a deeper sound than fours and a unique nasal tone, but they can also scream out, too. Below 1100cc I'll still likely take a twin 7 or 8 times out of 10 for its other properties (narrow and light), especially if it's a 285-300 degree firing interval instead of the now more typical 270-degree, the disgusting 180-degree, or the boring 360-degree. 1100-1400 is twin or triple for me, and then due to piston size and stroke length(because I want it to rev out, still), 1400cc or more pretty much necessitates a triple or larger. Though I also generally don't even want or need that much engine, so I digress.

When looking for bikes, before I got my license, I set my eyes and mind on a CBR600RR. The idea of revving to 14-15k seemed so awesome to me. Then I started thinking more, on what I actually want to do when I was able to ride a bike. I thought of commuting, weekend trips, day trips, occasional traffic jams which require lane filtering. Maneuverability, being upright and more comfy while riding etc. I looked into naked bikes, liked the appeal/aesthetics of them. Were more upright, more torque, less HP shorter redline (as of my Z750 tops out at 11.500 RPM's.And I was like that should be more then enough. Got the start date of my lessons and was lucky enough to ride on a CB650R and learned that the redline, specs, agility of nakeds were suited perfect for me. So to all who like the 12k+ rpm's I get you, but literally as Yam says less top RPM more TQ's earlier makes a more playable and fun ride. Still pleeeeeeeeeeeenty fast. Don't ever think bikes are not fast.

Same eith 750 or 1000cc bikes Inline 4 small displacement engines have inherently way more frictional losses with more valves, more pistons wider pistons, more crank, lifters etc to sap power/efficiency Don't get me wrong, I love the scream of a full system akrapovic R6 tuned on the racetrack But they aren't efficient and quite bad emissions wise

The KTM ‘990’ is actually 947cc. The great thing about next gen rules for supersport is there are no strictly defined rules for displacement. Instead it’s HP, weight and other factors. So the 955cc Ducati is severely retuned so that the very well hopped up 599cc R6 can still be similar in terms of peak hp output. The KTM could certainly race if they would get it homologated. There’s nothing in the rules keeping it from being raced.

Unfortunately for Yamaha “pretty damn sporty” isn’t the standard set over the last few decades for proper supersports…the distinction between sport and supersport is not supposed to just be marketing hype. Basically it’s a katana not an actual homologated supersport. Recognizing this distinction is not in any way supposed to suggest that 600 & 1000cc supersports are anywhere near ideal for the road, that was never the point, in fact quite the opposite…most of the appeal was that these were proper track machines that we the few insane enthusiasts who chose to do so, COULD enjoy on the road. Back in the day we had proper lineups from Yamaha and Honda etc. we had the r6 but then we also had much softer “sport bikes” that weren’t trying to be super sports but were sporty road bikes. Apparently in 2024 manufacturers want people to pick ONE option of the two and if the one you chose is a super sport then you’re SOL

Well zx6r does not have an option for cruise control,have to buy after market up and down auto blip quick shifter(zx6r only has up quick shifts) lean control,abs(zx6r that’s around 1500 on base model) i know that guys don’t really like it however if it’s your street bike I rather have and not every use or need then need and not have. My 2019 has it and I’ve never engaged it in 13000 miles on street even with a few emergency braking situation but I like the feeling that if ever i panic and forget my training I have something else looking out. Sorry for the long post but 2 wheels always makes me excited. Let it be known bmw s1000r is my dream bike, and I own a ninja good value is good value

Conceptually the new supersport category will be so fun to ride and way better than in line 4 cylinder, the only problem they have is that generally they look like shit, from wings to chinese-oriental design, oh man freaking terrible .. I miss the design of old supersport bikes (early and mid 2000s, even something from 90s). We desperately need a mix of both things

The inline 4 remains nice because of the balance it has. With counterweights to compensate for the secondary imbalance, it features the least likely engine configuration to rattle to pieces when you wring out the throttle. That being said, it's really only suited for the track + due to the greater amount of pistons, fuel economy reduces exponentially (the tiny gaps between piston and cylinder wall are lost volume) Then again, do we buy motorcycles for their practicality?

Never thought I’d say I am glad to be older. Growing up with CBR600F2s, YZFs, ZX6 and the good old FZR in 600cc for beginners bikes(some had FZR400s). Everyone wanted to race WERA and we had a blast. AMA getting bought by NASCAR and the stretched and slammed crowds kinda killed it. People got tired of being harassed and would never be near the squids. Racing got way too expensive and track days shot up because of track insurance and the lack of riders.

I’m very lucky to have both (kind of) a cbr600 f3 that I can scream the nuts off (not R6 or zxr400 territory but still fun) and a Ducati super sport 950 which is much faster and far superior to my 600 in every respect, I’m 61, been riding since I was 16 and I still can’t get away from revving out a 4 cylinder bike to within an inch of it’s life ! 😀😀

Have you ever done a deep dive into throttle limiting in motorsport? Wouldn't a larger displacement bike have an advantage at lower throttle levels? Do they over-nerf the top end to make up for the low end advantage? Seems like a quagmire.

In Australia: R9 will be $3000 more than Striple RS. R9 will also cost more than a near-new Panigale V2. Yes, the 160 hp one.
@lofee.r7
@lofee.r7 Ай бұрын
If you’re talking about track that makes sense, however road wise? Not only is the R9 going to be more reliable but also it’s not going to be geared towards track only specs, as the Panigale, well Italian bikes speak for themselves man, wouldn’t surprise me if you have an oil leak in the first 2 months of ownership.
@williamlu4394
@williamlu4394 Ай бұрын
@lofee.r7 Not wrong but the concept of r9 imo is geared more towards track than road especially compared to Striple RS, and I can get a Striple for heaps less money, which is also gonna be heaps better for road, or get literally anything that isn't brand new for track for like 1/3rd of the price unless I got a Panigale (why would you ever get a brand new bike for track), even a track r1. I seriously doubt the r9 in Aus is going to do as well as r7 because its whole concept is designed to trick newbies with tiktok brains, it's insanely overpriced, and it's a downgrade from everything in its price point for track. So its product placement in Aus is a luxury product with less quality than triumph yet costs more, just so the buyer can look at American social media and feel good about themselves. The fact that bikes are getting more expensive yet worse is insulting, and it raises the price of second hand bikes.

As a MT09 rider I believe that engine etc in a sport bike will chew up and spit out R6s. With a full fairing and sport bike ergonomics that 3 banger will run at least 165 mph to 170. It will do it without all the drama of winding out little 600!! My MT09 with just a little aerodynamic wind shield will drag my old fat behind to 144 mph. I still have one gear left

Scholtz took MA SBK on an R6, but PJ was TOUGH on the Duc this year, curious to see what Scholtz and other R6 riders do in 2025. I'm curious to see how well the r9 does on track, I have ridden my GFs MT09 on track, and motor wise, it's a fun bike on the smaller tracks we typically run (up in the midwest) but the ergo on the mt on track is bad. I have 2 X R6 (05 and 06) in the track trailer, so getting a little long in the tooth. I'd like to get a newer track bike at some point, and the R9 might fit the bill, since I'm just not ready to start shelling out tyre money for an R1 lol. But... The 2025 Panagali V2 isn't "that" much more than the R9 (base V2, not V2s) Going to be an interesting 2025 for sure.....
