Any news about battery production at Giga Berlin.? Was that abandoned or just delayed?

Last I heard Tesla had used the German equipment in Texas. Elon said on the last call that it was cheaper to buy other batteries than use the Tesla made ones. Hopefully that will change. If they crack it in USA I'm sure German production will ramp up.

@@gpsfinancial6988 Thanks. The West has to make their own batteries. We can’t keep outsourcing everything to China and elsewhere and still think we can maintain our prosperity. So my fingers crossed that Tesla will succeed in making affordable quality batteries and also succeeding in making the entire supply chain for battery cell production as well.

@@HMexperience Tesla is importing old Chinese battery technology to expand in Nevada. BYD claimed 2023 R&D investment of nearly RMB 40B, with 102.8K+ R&D staff. Globally, it has applied for 48k+ patents and obtained 30k+ authorized patents. On average, it applies for 32 patents and obtains 15 authorized patents per workday. It has won 4 gold patent awards.

@@gpsfinancial6988 yes China is far ahead with both production and research in battery technology. Only way to build a battery industry in the free and democratic world is to protect it against China competition by large tariffs on imported batteries and battery materials. However, we should probably allow China to set up factories in the west in order to spread up the building of this industry in the west.

Texas does more and is constantly expanding, so has always continued to be a construction site. Berlin hasn’t done anything new in a long while and is stuck at low volume due to Germany being a terrible place to do business plus Germans launching lawsuits and terrorist attacks against the company.

@@gpsfinancial6988 “stuck at.” Compare to Fremont and Shanghai expansion. Texas is low Model Y due to matching demand (according to last two conference calls), but is ramping another vehicle, ramping yet another vehicle first half 2025, ramping battery cell production (including cathode), and rapidly building out the structure for a new supercomputer cluster to train Hardware 4. Berlin has spent years trying to get permission to sink a few poles in the ground so they can put up solar panels in a parking lot.

@@DR.LingeringFrey I agree that sales for Model Y are well under Tesla's production capabilities. Perhaps if Tesla spent as much time and energy fighting FUD as they did getting Elon his money (I voted yes) it wouldn't be an issue and production in Germany and Texas could ramp up.
