Thanks Sandy, It's been too long since I've seen Iain and he's one of the few people I know who would agree to do the ride.

Well Done Sam....Excellent Effort and Determination. Your Video gives me ideas for Retirement Hopefully on the Lenton 👍👍👍

Haha, thanks! ...Don't wait for retirement if at all possible. A wise man once told me, 'people who say they'll do something when they retire tend not to do anything, start whatever it is now, then do it more when you retire' (seems like a sensible plan). Best. Sam.

Blinkin' 'eck Sam I went up to York a few weeks ago in the car (200 miles) but you did it on a bike with kit 😳 👏.... hats off to you Sir 👍😊

Thanks Paul, for some odd reason I've wanted to pedal to Yorkshire for years. Happily this trip has fulfilled that desire.

Cracking video, Sam and a bloody good effort on the saddle. It would have to be carbon for me, I couldn't push that Surly that far! As for cars, come to Shropshire, more barmies per yard than the rest of Britain!! Regards, Henry.
@maryandsam22 жыл бұрын
Thanks Henry, the surly is like any weighty bike, once it's going it rolls well, and downhills are fab, I do however resent every time I have to stop and get going again, that's were the energy loss is noticed. As for Shropshire, much as it sounds terrifying, I am intrigued...perhaps I'll ride there one day.

You can always rely on a church to have a bench to rest on. I also had a coughing fit after I had passed through some fields of rapeseed the other week, the pollen is pretty strong and pungent. Great effort on travelling all of that distance! I won't be in a rush to check out Doncaster so thanks for the inside info 😂
@maryandsam22 жыл бұрын
I do like a church bench...always a quiet, relaxing spot. The rapeseed is as you say, very pungent right now. Not helped by gulping in large amounts of air. As for Doncaster, the approved cycle route sends you on main roads around the outside...madness but if thats the recommended route lord only knows what the interior is like!

Great video! You have lots of really nice cycle paths, I wish the US would get on board and start putting in more cycle paths. I noticed there was not any litter on the ground during your ride which made me really happy. Here in the US people's disrespectful nature towards the planet needs to be put in check, it's getting really bad. But anyway lovely video and thanks for sharing. Go Surly Long Haul Trucker!
@maryandsam22 жыл бұрын
Thanks, the cycle path networks vary massively in both quality and quantity depending on where you are in the UK. But we do have a lot of disused railway lines (they were closed in the mid 60s) and many have been repurposed by a charity called sustrans as safe and direct bike walking and horse routes. As for the litter, sadly we do also have a problem, again it varies by area. Locally to me we have volunteers who collect roadside litter which is then taken by the council. I imagine that happens all over the country..it's such a shame that it even needs doing. I would like to experience riding in America, but would never be able to choose where in the country as the diversity of terrain etc.
