Sam ... what can I say? I loved old allens I admired the way you struck out on your own to have a refuge from the world. I had hoped to visit myself some day? However its not so good a place to be on your own., I went through a similar parting of the ways without your sucess I am also a photo enthusiast back in the day all I could afford was a zenith and a practica 35 mm now in better days I have a dozen Panasonic lumix ...2 bridge and 10 compact.... I resist the impulse to use the mobile for "normal" pics but find it better for low light subjects. after a breakup I too had to reset life sadly not as well as you did. Aged 73 I will watch how you prosper with interest `and hope for a better 2025 A watcher from way back N ..... Best wishes for a new beginning in 2025

3 years to find this video and how sad it makes me. I had one of these bikes and boy, do I miss it. I needed some cash to pay off a tradesman who was interested in this bike so we did a deal. So lovely to find a video of one. Definitely a bike of its own class but so lovely to ride when you just want to get from A to B in no hurry. For me the perfect 'pub bike'. And now, after seeing what has been done to this example, I wish even more that I had kept mine. Thank you for sharing this video. I might take my time and look around for one - but as you said they were not very popular at the time so I might have a wait or have to take on a bike needing TLC
@maryandsam228 күн бұрын
Hi William, Thanks for your Kind comments, we are as you say three years on, I still have the bike, and I'm thinking of selling it! Not because there's anything wrong with it, I still love it, but I do have a hankering to move back onto a cargo bike again, I like you gave away bike, a Pashley Pronto which I loved and have always slightly regretted it. My plan is to sell a few bikes to help fund the new one. anyway. I never post bikes and have no idea where you live but maybe we can work something out if you are interested. for reference I live in north bucks, near Milton Keynes these days.

@maryandsam2 Thank you for the kind offer but I've no room for another bike just yet after buying a new eBike for the wife. There is also the slight chance that the chap who owns mine doesn't get the use from it and one day it might make its way home. I live between Brighton and Worthing and the Steamer just made so much sense riding along the coast on sunny days. I really don't know what I was thinking. My only grip was the flimsy kickstand that didn't take the heft of the bike but the newer kickstand are much stronger Thanks again for your reply

How much of this route is off-road? Is there an off-road link to/from Aylesbury?
@maryandsam26 ай бұрын
Proper off road is probably about 10 percent, maybe a bit more, the rest is one mostly minor roads. Off road from Aylesbury to wendover isn't really much of an option although there's a cycle path the length of the road to wendover, so you don't actually need to ride on the main road.

Hey - I just picked one of these up on Facebook Marketplace for not very much money - although it needs a bit of work to get it back on the road! Do you have any suggestions on what tyres to fit? The stock factory ones have predictably rotted away so they need to go.
@maryandsam210 ай бұрын
I swapped out the stock ones as they only just fitted under the mudguards and used to rub annoyingly. Currently running schwalbe marathon plus in 1.75 size. They don't look as good but they are bomb proof and last forever.
@deputydang829111 ай бұрын
That axe head should be tight even before fitting, no gaps around the eye when mounting the handle. Always beat the bottom of the handle and let the axe head come up into it, I promise you it will. You do not have to beat the axe head down into the handle.
@maryandsam210 ай бұрын
Yep, I'm not an expert as the video clearly shows. Seven years later my crap handle is still doing the job though. When it breaks I'll try and do a better job.
