@another399715 күн бұрын
Clearly you aren't seeing the bigger picture. It's not chaos where there is only a few cm of snow. Major roads are gritted and cleared routinely. It's only chaos in those places where there is an excessive and often unusual amount of heavy snowfall that problems arise. Those areas that are used to such conditions are ready for it, and most places in the UK are actually fine, disruption is minimal. I know the two major roads they closed in the Peak district. They traverse several miles of high up and very exposed parts of the Pennines. They are also very narrow, twisty, undulating roads with steep, off camber sections, simple grass verges and lots of ditches that are hidden by deep snow drifts. The towns they serve have alternate routes that are open.

Except it isn't the British claiming how terrible the snow is. This is a foreign report, and it's taking a few isolated occurrences and blowing it out of proportion. The vast majority of the UK is coping perfectly well. Is the snow causing problems? Yes, but it's mostly just inconvenient for people. But some places have had heavier snowfall than is usual. Some exposed places and rural towns and villages may get snowed in for a short while, a few roads get closed so the emergency services don't have to spend time trying to rescuing idiots who ignore common sense and then get stuck.
@warpspeeed634516 күн бұрын

The problem with weather is that it is incredibly variable over small areas. You get a number ofcsmall micro climates in a small geographical area. But snow doesn't generally cause huge amounts of chaos. It's only when we get unusually heavy snowfall that problems occur. Yes, winter or all season tyres should be used by more people, but snow tyres are only needed for snow... and many places in the UK go for years without any significant snowfall.

Maybe you fell to bits, but the vast majority of us just got on with life as usual, just taking a few minutes to clear the snow off the car and allowing a few minutes extra for our journeys. It's only in a small number of areas that the snow has caused major problems, often because the snowfall has been subsrantially heavier than is usual and the normal levels of 'road gritting' were overwhelmed. In the UK (even in Southern Scotland), we only get this type of weather for a few days and not every year. That's why the councils don't spend tens of millions of pounds on the equipment that's needed on mainland Europe on a regular basis. Also, that's why we don't go to the expense of having two sets of tyres. The winter tyres would be ripping up our roads for the non snow days which is the majority 🤷🤷♀️🤷♂️

Drivers should be required by law to carry snow chains or snow socks to prevent them getting stuck and left in dangerous locations. ALL HGVs should by law have to carry and be capable of fitting snow chains, even those entering the country from foreign ports. It’s time this country stopped hitting the driver with BS climate taxes and made laws that actually make sense for the continuation of travel and commerce.
