Back then they used to call it 'crystal' or 'crystal thc, dust, angel dust, sherm' etc. There was no google to check what it is you're actually sniffing. Joey ain’t lying when he talks about how some of those medical professionals are masters at drawing blood. I never had any issue with blood draws, that was until I was about ten years old and during a yearly checkup, they brought a nurse in training to do the blood draw. Joey would’ve probably had a heart attack if he had to go through what I did that day. She fished around in my arm with that needle for at least 3 minutes straight. She wasn’t even taking it out to push it back in, she was literally sweeping the needle around back and forth under the skin and I was just watching this the whole time. I don’t know how dumb this girl must’ve been but it didn’t even make sense what she was doing, like I don’t know how she though that was going to pierce the vein, the motion she was doing didn’t even make sense. Then she’d take it out for like 30 seconds and try again. I told her to do the much better vein on my hand instead of my arm but this moron just wouldn’t do that for some reason. So she kept inserting the needle in through the same hole and she was stretching it out. That needle hole looked like what you’d see on a dope fiend. Afterward, it left a bruise that was about the size of a quarter. Even at that age, I prided myself on being stoic, so I sat there and didn’t show any discomfort. At the start, there was no discomfort to show because I’d had this done before and it was fine, but as it continued, the pain got worse and I started to succumb to the discomfort of having a needle in my arm and seeing it sweep left to right under my skin. After like three minutes, all that I was experiencing inside was pure hope that it would work soon and the blood would flow so this could be over already. Finally the blood started flowing and I was so relieved, I needed to fill 3 vials. About a quarter through the first vial, the blood stopped. Man, in that moment I felt so defeated because I knew she had to start poking me again. She started trying on the other arm which had an even worse vein than the one she’d already been failing to draw, she just wouldn’t listen and use my hand. She started fishing in my right arm and when she took it out and starting to again try for probably the 8th time at this point, I was starting to wonder just how long it would take and I just felt like I couldn’t take another attempt. My feelings probably started to show because my dad sternly told her to get the needle out of my arm and get her supervising nurse, she finally listened and left. An older lady came in, apologized for the situation, lined up the needle to my hand, one little jab and that was it. Blood flowed perfectly and filled all three vials, but the psychological damage was already done. I didn’t trust blood draws ever again and one time when I had to get one, I almost passed out which made me even more scared to get them because I had this fear in my mind that I would fall off the gurney with the needle in my arm and rip my vein open or something. Years later I was in the hospital and an emt did a perfect blood draw on me. Then I was at a doctor and a Phlebotomist did the draw, that was the best one ever. She was like a magician, I even asked her if the needle was in after she did it because it truly felt like she’d just touched it to my skin without inserting it, but it was already done and drawing blood. Like I said, some are masters of blood draws, but at the same time, some are god awful at it, especially if they’re students. If you’re like me, I will never allow a student to out a needle in me ever since then.
