I have never seen plastic wrap in the walkin of any commercial kitchen I've worked in. We keep it on the counter. Difference between ours and home cooks is that ours is in really large rolls and made of a plastic that actually works. Home cooks get stuck with the junk in the grocery store which doesn't work at all.

You can also put a clear casserole dish on top of your recipe book to keep it open and clean. If your recipe is on your phone or other device, slip in inside a clear zipper bag. You can still use your finger on top of the plastic to control or activate the device. Personally though, I print out recipes and slip them into plastic sheet protectors. That way I can keep them in a binder and pull them out whenever I want, and I can wipe them off if they get dirty.

I have worked in restaurants for over 10 years. I have never seen anyone keep plastic wrap in the fridge. The trick to plastic wrap is to keep it on the roll, wrap the food in it, then break it off. It sticks to itself, not food. For some reason most people rip it off first and then try to wrangle this thin, staticky sheet over the food.

I'm using my wooden spoons for many years! Only one smelled after I used it to make pickled garlic ... and even that smell disappeared after 2 days (without cooking)!! To make sure you can use them for a long time, you should clean them immediately after use! You can also rub them occasionally with a little olive oil ... it's wood, after all! And the easiest way to avoid tears when cutting onions, is to use a really sharp knife!
@Agapy88882 жыл бұрын
I found olive wood spoons at Trader Joe’s. I only bought two. Should’ve bought more for gifts.

a stainless steel spoon in the mouth will also _help_ with tears when cutting onions. It's not perfect, but it helps. The sulphur ions are electromagnetically attracted to the stainless...This is also why stainless steel will remove onion/garlic/shallot smell from your hands if you rub your hands with it under running water.
@RC22147 жыл бұрын
I know another hack for cleaning pots and pans, mainly stainless steel. Instead of SOS use baking soda and several squirts of vinegar (used from a spray bottle) scrub then let it soak. I've been using that method for quite some time now and stick by it. :-)

Bill B I've found that if you're using raw onions in a salad, a guacamole, or salsa-chop as you would, then a quick rinse in a colander under the faucet is enough to do the trick.

Another pro tip for number ten about roasting chicken. This applies to any method of cooking chicken. Take the chicken out of the fridge at least an hour before you cook it so that the outside isn't dried out by the time you get the inside done. This produces a juicy chicken that is also cooked all the way through.

When buying meat try to get the meat further back on the self. Be aware that brown meat is often 'saved' from being thrown out because it is sometimes dipped in blood to give it the appearance of fresh meat or they grind off meats with fresh meat. And the stickers on packaging is often changed so to 'extend' the 'self-life'. Also the spiced up meats can sometimes be that way so they can mix old meat that should have been thrown out & use sprice & maranaides to hide off orders. Some (alot) of bakerys did alot of gross stuff too, like switch the bad fruits but still sell the rest that the fruit rested on or just cut the bad parts of the fruits off, same with cheeses.. Take & cut cakes that haven't sold in half take the old iceing off & put new iceing on an old cake. The fish counter is another thing all together.

Another way #5 works or just how to make/peel the perfect hard boil egg: Boil eggs for 12 mins, immediately drain and replace the boiling water with enough cold water and ice cubes to go over the top of the eggs. Let sit just a min and the shell peels right off... but then, drop the peeled egg back into the cold water, since doing so, will cause any small piece of shell that may still be on the egg to drop off and sink to the bottom of the pan.... The more you know i guess 💫 😂

To make the yolks of boiled eggs look brighter and taste better, I use a straight pin to poke a small hole in one end before cooking. This releases sulfur gas. To make it easier to peel boiled eggs, I poke a small hole in both ends. This lets air flow into the space between the shell and each end of the egg.

so basically every food you want to eat use a freezer AND/or microwave. microwave your ice cream and it will be easier to spoon. put ice on your steak to make it taste better. for lemons, take them off the counter, then freeze until solid, then microwave to room temperature. for eggs, forget running water and a spoon. inject bacon ranch dressing and mustard, and put them in the freezer so it develops crystals and doesnt taste right. for cheese, forget using a bowl, freeze it so its harder to grate or cut. basically, everything suggested here makes things harder (literally) and uses the freezer....i paused the video at the end of #7...so lemme guess. the next one involves the freezer.

who wants to eat a warm orange? as for getting the shell off a boiled egg easier try cracking it against the bottom of the pan, while there's water in it (after its cooked you empty the hot water and fill with cold), the water gets in the cracks and separates the egg from the shell membrane. no need for vinegar or baking soda which you'll probably always forget to use anyway.

On microwaving something and prevent it from drying out. Instead of putting a cup of water in with the food, soak a couple of paper towels and cover the food with the wet paper towels. By far the best way to keep something moist when microwaving them. In fact, if you bought fast food with fries. Microwave them covered by the wet paper towels. When they are done, they are far softer than when you bought them and taste far better than when they first give them to you.

1. Onion Tears While cutting onions, place an outer layer if it on top of your head! 2. Cast Iron- I wash them as normal, by hand with water & dish soap. Dry it by hand then rub it with olive oil, just a small amount on a cloth or paper towel. Kinda rub it in. Do not leave any excess. It's left shiny, no dryness, and won't rust. My gramps taught me this! 3. Super dirty pans- when u burn something to the bottom of a pan, and u think ur gonna have to throw it away. Put a little bit of soap & water in, enough to cover the mess. Then put a dryer sheet in the pan. Let sit for 1 hour. This is like magic! It's uh-mazing!!!

if you are on a low sodium diet, extend the saltiness of a food with a little squeeze lemon juice. It will lower how much salt is desired normally without sacrificing that savory aspect

The pizza hack is just WRONG!! Reheat in a covered skillet on the stove.
@anthonytony83287 жыл бұрын
Agree, I tried the cup of water in the microwave years ago. Did not work. I went back to the skillet method.

Toast in toaster oven for ~8 minutes works for me. I also convection-bake many things in the toaster oven at 425° F for ~15 minutes.

Here’s an actual pro tip. If you are chopping onions use a sharp knife. The sharper a blade is the less you are bruising it and releasing those sulfuric compounds. Not by freezing it. Also warming up baked items properly is by using a toaster oven or putting it in the oven at a low temperature.

Sigh. Where do I start? First off, chefs don't store their cling wrap in the fridge. it's on a shelf, the fridge is for food thanks. Vinegar or baking soda in with the eggs does not work. It USED to work but with the hormones given to chickens today to make them produce more eggs, it has done something to the membrane of the egg that causes it to dry out and stick to the egg rather than slide right off with the shell. Put fruit in the microwave? No thanks. I like my fruit room temp thank you. To squeeze the most out of a lemon or lime, just roll in on the counter with your hand pressing firmly. I can go on but, sigh, this is getting too long.

To avoid "crying" over onions, use a very sharp knife. A dull knife will tear (the rip word) and crush the structure slightly, releasing more fumes.

a professional chef with a masters in food science and safety, nearly all of these 'tips' are wrong and/or dangerous, putting sealed fruit such as oranges or limes in a microwave is extremely dangerous and can cause the fruit to explode when opened and burn someones face and ruin their lives with scars, even for just 20 seconds
@bartwhiteman98754 жыл бұрын
Scott Peters So let me get this straight putting a lemon in a microwave for 20 seconds somebody It’s going to be scarred for life? You might want to run that by somebody in the emergency room, so they can laugh about it also............ Nurse to nurse: “ what happened at that dude’s face?” “ He put a lemon in the microwave for 20 seconds”

To eliminate onion and garlic smell from your hands, wash your hands and rub a spoon or butter knife all over. The metal neutralizes the smell.
