John, i can attest that leg curls DO make squat feel better. no doubt it is magical. but, from a powerlifters perspective, how would you program a SQUAT workout, while still paying mind to work hamstrings first for knee health/muscular health? powerlifters main goal is lift more in the squat. not the same as a bodbuilder who just wants to grow muscle. a powerlifter wont sacrifice lbs from the bar for a leg curl movement prior.... any ideas?

Effort is binary. I am either off or on. Lol, jk. I had prepared for an apocalyptic event so I already had gymnastic rings, light adjustable DB, and bands laying around. I have no reason to go back to the gym. I might get a clipping card so I don't have to subscribe, but I can go whenever I feel like it. I want to keep doing snatch grip block pulls, but I don't really care about anything else. I'll save so much money that by the time I need more weights it will have paid for itself.
@aestheticshardstyle8927
@aestheticshardstyle8927 4 жыл бұрын
Alexander deChaneet try buying your gym equipment instead of renting and you wont have to miss workouts because someone decides to make a virus when we supposed to be curing viruses. I an adjustable bench for under $150, and a pulldown machine for about $160. The bench also has preacher bench thats removable with it. Weight added dumbells for $50 a pair so i can add weight and make them whatever weight i want. I can workout when i want and dont miss workouts because of idiots. Stay shredded brah and you control your workout by buying instead of letting others control it by renting...
@momatotsosrorudodi
@momatotsosrorudodi 4 жыл бұрын
@@aestheticshardstyle8927 I'm not going back to the gym, and my setup doesn't cost a thing. Less than $100. As long as you have somewhere to hang your rings you can do pulls and abs. Push ups, pike push ups, dips etc. can be done with or without resistance. Legs can be trained unilaterally if you don't have any real weight to load with. Your exercise selection will be better as well, since you don't rely on machines at all(they are great for fluff and pump, but I mostly use them when I am too tired to do free weights or calisthenics).

Fantastic content, and really informative. After training for 30 years I would like to add another one, and that is "mind to ,muscle connection" during your workout. It really ties a number of the reasons together: - being slightly crazy, embracing the pain, controlling the tempo, full range of motion. The truth is you have to love training legs, embrace the hard work and pain, and not just train in a manner to get the workout or reps finnished. Really informative channel with some great advice!

So many people at my gym look like they skip or put legs at the bottom of the priority list. I’ve had surgery on both knees so I’ve been trying to build them back up from being atrophied. Thanks for the info John. These videos are gold. R.I.P. John, you’re with the rest of the legends of yesteryear now.

On laying ham curls, I like to relax my toes and really feel it in my hamstring. Once I can't do anymore, I flex my toes and finish them off.

Love John Meadows, i was a footballer as a teenager and when i started training, my legs could tolerate a lot of pain thanks to that probably, and on legday i was doing exactly the same tips that John is talking about, without even realising it’s the way, like Heavy squats, 8-10reps, heavy leg press 15-20 reps then last set would go balls to the wall with dropsets. Then stiff leg deadlift and leg curls again heavy on the first, then go balls to the wall with dropsets, my legs got bigger compared to my upper body 🤣. Now i gotta do the same for my upper body.

You are absolutly right on the deep squats. I used to do them and my legs were at their best when i was doing those. They actually seemed to be easier cause i wasnt concerned with stopping the weight going down and form was easy to maintain over half squats. Have a great weekend brah...

the biggest reason is ego lifting, been there. the stress goes straight to the knee and you find your muscles did nothing. sounds mad but when doing legs relax the ankles and you'll feel the thigh do the work if you tense your feet like your pressing the floor the stress goes to the knees.

Six months later, how are the legs doing? I am at where you were six months ago. I watched the Missy video and she is amazing. I'm gonna work legs today in the snow and get ready for the Olympia this weekend which I hope to see maybe here on YT. Blast the legs, eat, rest, recover, eat some more, relax, eat again, then a week later blast them again. Does this sound right?

This is such a great channel. Feels like I have a trainer. There is not one annoying thing about any of this content. Nothing you feel like you want to skip past. No bullshit. On the contrary, I skip back because this is so information rich.

He's right about needing higher reps because the lower body has lots of slow twitch fibers compared to the upper body

Thank you both MD & Dave. This is probably my top video of the year. So many times I have repeated 'trust your training, trust the technique' in order to go towards where the mind is and the body yet needs to explore, lol 😂 Alexander is amazing 👌🏽

Gotta try this. My legs are my self concious body part. Even back 10 years ago when i could squat 400 my legs looked like theyre more fitting for a baby deer rather than a 280lbs man.
