Astonishing! Mitchell Hooper has just broken the Axle Press World Record!
He pressed 218kg/480lbs at The Strongman Classic 2024 in front of a SOLD OUT Royal Albert Hall on his second attempt!!
This is major deja-vu from Iron Biby's incredible 217kg in 2021!
Unbelievable from The Moose!

@ThunderbackOG Just to elaborate, the competitors receive points based on rankings. This means that Hooper only needed to lift heavier than all of the other competitors, in order to receive the maximal amount of points. Whether or not he got the world record wouldn't change the amount of points he gets. So if he only cares about his rankings, he wouldn't need to attempt the WR at all.

Everyone discrediting the lift because its a split jerk have no idea what they are talking about. The rules are the rules: Get it from ground to overhead, by ANY means. The technique is challenging to master otherwise everyone would do it. If Eddie and Biby ir anyone are stronger than Mitchell, they can learn how to split jerk and beat him then. I'll wait. In many ways the OHP is the anti bench. It's so hard and so much legitimacy is placed on putting a heavy object overhead that ANY technique is considered acceptable. Jerk, push press strict press hyper arching are all equally valid for the greatest test of strength we have.

Ur right rules are the rules and no doubt hooper has the record now but with that said Eddie's was a strict press so its more impressive and the argument can be made that he could have done more (quite possibly a fair bit more than this) if he push pressed. but he didn't so thats a what if. It's hoopers for now so congrats to him he's been working hard for it.

He’s not stupid. And he’s actually pretty honest. When the announcer said “pressing power,” hooper immediately commented on the split jerk. That is very honest because it isn’t pure pressing power… its more technique. But the credit still goes to him, he took almost 500lbs from the ground and held it over his head. He took the weight from a to b, same as other strong men. However when eddie hall pressed the 216 for example, that was pure pressing power!, he didn’t even jump the weight a bit.

Very impressive - the last of Eddie's records just got snapped. But what's wild is how Olympic Lifters (yes it is a very different bar) are slinging 220KG+ at far lighter body weights. There are dozens of guys at 110 kg Body Weight slinging 220 kg in the clean and jerk. The World Record Clean and Jerk is 49 kg more than this (267 kg)... That's like 110 lbs MORE than the strongman record. That's wild.
