Activision Blizzard is Evil and Nobody Should Act Surprised

Its official, Activision Blizzard are evil, certainly according to the State of California. Personally I don't know why anyone is acting surprised at this news. Its hardly a revelation. ActiBlizz have been behaving just as atrociously as EA for years. When they are not ripping off the fans they are gaslighting them, or sucking up to the Peoples Republic of China. We already knew they treat their staff badly, so the new revelations really only serve to moderate our expectations of the scale of the problem.

Hiring staff as private contractors is a common practice across all IT industry in Ukraine, making it, basically, a huge rowboat, where big it companies hire legions of IT professionals to write API's for foreign customers. The most hilarious thing is that everyone is Ok with that. Employees avoid extra tax as private enterpreneur (i talk about 5% vs 18%), and employers can kick the fella out with no further complications. The horrible thing is that IT guys are in high demand, and every sucker with basic knowledge pretends he is king of the world, disgraces HR's and so on. And gathering altogether, getting drunk and laid is considered a great team building activities (if it is a mutual agreement). If not - you won't tell anybody, because look at paragraph one. And some extra research about jobs in Ukrainian division of Ubisoft. There are 14 open positions for today. People working there complain about managers calling them imbeciles, and low salaries. Especially for junior and middle positions. Average junior QA tester earns 300 euro per month, which is less than cashier in local supermarket. Not to big for IT professional, even for a slav post-soviet war-torn country, ey? But there is a fast leadership program - the way to quickly ascend to managers positions, and pave your way ahead with a skill of sticking your tongue between seniors butt cheeks, rather than testing and developing actual games. So majority of interns get hired to Ubi to obtain a little experience for their CV and then go get a decent job elsewhere.

It's very misleading to foster the Cosby suite mythos. Cosby wasn't a known predator at that time and the name was a nod to the bad hotel room decor (that looked like Cosby's sweaters) rather than any reference to predatory behaviour. It's just a misleading and lazy hook. That's not to say they didn't use the room to get together with women (and such an unfortunately coincidence for the guys trying to get laid.)

I agree its a lazy journo hook, but no, its not misleading. I gave a more full answer earlier, but the accusations against Cosby were well known long before Hannibal Buress called him out during a stand-up routine in 2014. Cosby had been fighting multiple court cases for many years at this point, and it was already in the public consciousness. Retrospectively its easy to google the history and think that 2014 was the year it "all came out". But Cosby has more accusers than Epstein or Weinstein. Whilst I dont think the volume of accusers is an indicator of guilt, it is kinda creepy that Cosby leaves a wake of women in his path that all claim he drugged and abused them. When those kinds of accusations reach double digits its time to ask "am I a bad date" FYI as far as I know, the "Cosby Sweater Alibi" has no proven reference point prior to the accusations. I'm not disputing its credibility, I'm merely noting that apparently these guys had this "Cosby gig" running for years, now they alledge its based on sweaters, and literally nobody heard of this justification until lawyers were involved....a few months ago. I think if I spent years running a gag, based on Bill Cosby, involving parties, hotel rooms, booze, sex, and possibly thousands of visitors, it would be unreasonable to think that nobody could provide any reference to the "sweater joke" until last month. In fact nobody had even heard of the sweater gag until lawyers were involved. Sorry for the wall of text, but I would not discuss this issue in a video casually. I know that people get put through the wringer based on spurious accusations, and I know the devastation that this can cause. But I strongly suspect that this is what it is: They took girls there to ply them with booze, get them shitfaced and cop off with them, and thought Cosby was a funny reference. All of this would be none of our business if it didnt involve video games, managers creeping on new hires, and idiots taking selfies with a framed picture of Bill Cosby. I have tried to look at this from every angle dude. But it really DOES look like exactly what it is.

I think the whole reason it's lazy because it's just not established that the name was given in celebration of creepy rapiness at all, nor is it established that these guys did anything non-consensual in this room. It's lazy because this is what people do: they get together and try to get laid, typically by way of social interaction that involves booze. This in no way excuses any episodes that may have transpired that may have gone beyond the pale. Of course not. I think a line needs to be drawn between hit pieces and actual instances of sexual misconduct in the workplace. The Cosby suite mythos may shed light on some of this culture in the workplace but it currently serves no real purpose but to malign. Again, it just feels wrong to add it. Otherwise, I appreciate the feedback on this.

Okay not defending blizzard here, but does anyone realise that whole Cosby room photo was taken at a time before it was brought to anyone's attention what bill Cosby did? Before the allegations even started, he was considered an American sweetheart. You seriously think that hotel would have kept the Cosby room up knowing what he did? Firing people because of this is seriously reaching. Firing them for actual sexual harassment is what matters, not just giving misinformation to build on.

Possibly, but I think there is a bit of historical revisionism going on with that account. I wrote a fuller response to a similar comment earlier in the comments section Orc. But the tldr is that whilst the story blew up in 2014, actually by 2013 the Cosby accusations were well known. Its just they blew up in the mainstream media and triggered a law case when Hannibal Buress incorporated Cosby jokes into his stand up. But yeah everyone knew the rumours about Cosby by 2013 (true or false) and he had already been through a string of other legal cases by that point. People are retrospectively claiming that Cosbys reputation was practically "a secret" in 2013 but this wasnt the case Orc. Still I would agree, the Cosby portrait kinda doomed them because its such good scandalous media fodder.
