Garrett and I hunt some ground hogs on a super windy day. We test out the 52gr ELD in the 22-250 and the 95gr Berger Classic Hunter in the Marlin 243. Garrett has the Bergers cranking at 3100fps! This was a fun hunt. As always thanks for watching, commenting, sharing, and liking. / chuckin

In that kind of wind I think I would have used the .270. You should try one, they are just about as fast as a 7mm mag but you can shoot a much lighter bullet but a heavier bullet than you are shooting. It's like shooting a laser beam. Try it out, I think you would be surprised to find out that they do not move around in the wind like the real lighter weight bullets you are pushing out. Anyway these are the kind of videos I like to watch. You don't have to worry about having the faint of heart or the tree huggers.

Do y’all have a video shooting chucks with a 58 grain vmax in .243? If not, would you load some and try them out? I’m very curious to that result. Load data shows them to be going 4,000 FPS and I don’t have anywhere to develop my load at the moment. Thanks for the videos!

Garrett worked up a load with 58gr Vmax and XBR 8208. We don't remember the details on it and never did any videos on it. I do remember him getting about 3800fps and some pretty decent groups. Thanks for watching.

Late to the party but I’m deciding on a good cal for target and occasional varmint up to raccoon and coyote. Not rdy to kill Bambi yet. What do you suggest? 243 is the all rounder?
@Hammerdak
@Hammerdak 2 жыл бұрын
You’ve probably already got your rifle, but here’s my view. The .243 ammo can be found in 58, 75, 80, 90 and 100 grains quite readily. That’s a heck of a lot of versatility. 58 is more than enough for raccoon and smaller. 75 and 80 is plenty for Coyote with 58 as an option if pelt preservation is required. And…when you’re ready to put meat on the table 100 is good for “ Bambi” , his mother or his father. So, if you can have both 22-250 and .243 ….great. If you can only have one , then it’s .243 all the way. I have 22LR for rodents and 30-30 as well as .308 for deer ( depending on the landscape I’m hunting at the time ). I added a .243 to my safe last year to fill the gap. It extends my potential effective range to beyond 100 yds over the 22LR and the 30-30 while still giving me deer season capability.

I don't think that was a curve. It was the air disturbance when the bullet went through the air, and then the disturbance was blew off the path by the wind.

What do you think of 6mm Creedmoor? I hear it's very similar to .243 but allows for the longer bullets.
@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 4 жыл бұрын
I don't have any hands on with the 6mm CM. I like the idea of it and considered getting one. But it is basically a 243 that allows for longer bullets as you said. Higher B.Cs..decent speeds, It's worth a try. I know Savage made a few of their Desert Tacticals in 6CM. There's quite a few factory options out there. I just haven't had the time or money to dive into one yet.

I don’t think the bullet was actually curving given the distance. What you’re seeing is the wind moving from left to right pushing the compressed air behind the projectile making the bullet appear to bend. I could be wrong. Cool shooting video nonetheless.
@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 4 жыл бұрын
I know where I was holding on that chuck, I will tell you that the wind moved the point of impact that much... The bullet drifted a solid 12 inches or so. Watch the footage a couple of times. KZbin's video quality dumbed it down from the original footage, so it isn't quite as good as the footage we captured.
@tuomasholo
@tuomasholo 4 жыл бұрын
Chuckin' then that’s a hell of a shot! Not only is the chuck horizontal in the grass providing a smaller target but the heavy wind moving the bullet. I normally shoot heavier projectiles >150gr. I can see now that 52gr is more affected by the wind.
@ChuckinTV
@ChuckinTV 4 жыл бұрын
@@tuomasholo Yeah the 22-250, for all of it's upsides, the wind is it's worse enemy. We were under gunned that day for sure. Given my hold I still hit further back than I wanted to. Luckily it delivered enough shock to not make the woodchuck suffer too long. The second shot was a miss due to wind as well. Thanks for commenting.
