Btw, I agree with you: Debian Bookworm is def. enough for most users, in combination with Flatpak it's perfect for me. I just have 1 Issue. GNOME Wayland is good, but to get Screensharing and OBS working, you need a Pipewire Backport ...

I enjoy Drew's channel - lots of useful content. LOL I'll listen to him in my earbuds when I'm out running errands, but get thrown off when he's got some output on the screen and he won't read it out. Drew will say "If you get THIS then retry and include THAT..."

@@giancarlolugo7048 before 12 it was a huge pain to install on some systems if you didn’t know what you were doing. First time I installed it I had to do a ton of digging to find a separate driver file for my network card and add it to the ISO and I was still new with Linux in some ways so this wasn’t trivial for me haha. With the release of 12 they made it as easy as ticking a box in the installer for 3rd party firmware.

dwm is to much a hassle for me, bspwm looks nice in terms of config, yet the documentation is let say limited. That is why i do not use neither of them. Do not have time for reinventing the wheel. Basically that's a main reason why I'm in a camp of those guys who use *box wms flux box black box and stuff like that. Simple well documented, reasonably light and fast :)

Yup i follow you Drew. I see that there's no latest release of firefox or any browser on debian or LMDE 6. Is it possible to install Arch Linux with Linux Mint or Debian kind of desktop and use Arch as a daily driver for general purposes like watching video's Online/Offline, Listen to music, Online shopping & payment, Watch OTT etc.... On Arch as Simple user and not as Dev with Neovim God like user. i kind of like the idea of Rolling release.

I daily drive Debian, i think it's nice. It's an easy way to deploy a functional, general purpose and secure linux system easily on a random piece of hardware. You can say arch is sort of easy with archinstall but is it secure? Does it configure Xorg in a secure way out of the box?
@lorenzozapaton4031
@lorenzozapaton4031 28 күн бұрын
@@nou712 I used Debian Stable too (liquorix kernel and Appimage, Flatpak, etc for everything else). I stopped using it because OpenSUSE Tumbleweed works great when I tried for curiosity and stayed. That said, I had a lot of problems with Debian defaults that I didn't have with Tumbleweed or other distros but I guess it is how the distro is built.

Imo, Debian's hyperfixation on security makes it progressively less of a selling point for a daily driver as overall stability among unix systems got past the point where major updates often were breaking the system and bugs were significant and very hard to recover from. Declining absolute number of critical bugs makes relative margin between , say, Debian and Linux Mint Debian Edition less of a concern for many users. So I guess people can now afford running less conservative distros with some flavors, innovations and better tooling without having to sacrifice security that much. I for one haven't had to touch Timeshift in years. In those I was daily driving Manjaro, Linux Mint, PopOS, Ubuntu and some others. So with much respect to Debian, I don't see why people would use it for something other than a server.

1:53:35 Are normal people really that bothered by aspect ratio? I often see off-hand comments of how this 21:9 smartphone is good for *cinematic* but you have to *deal* with letter boxes for 16:9 content; or how a 16:10 display is not *suited* for entertainment.
