Bad ethics shooting animals with that caliber at those ranges. paper targets fine, but animals no. I hunt too but this is not nice to see.

cavedweller1959 My point exactly. ”Shooting sports” is not on living targets, that is on paper. Hence the comment about ethics. No need to get personal on your attack, try to stick to the subject. If you want to try the limits of your precision do it on paper and not on something that suffer when you fail.

@@dubson_h2500 Shooting sports are only on paper??? Millions of man hours spent every year sport hunting every kind of game animal and varmints of all types, world wide, and you think sport is only on paper. Nothing personal about my comment, you are just clueless, I've been killing rats for almost 45 years with this very rifle, occasionally, when the wind lays down, I have killed them at much longer distances than in this video, we just didn't have cameras and Y-T. Sorry dude, you are truly clueless on this topic.

People forget just how accurate the .222 was and still is. Good to see you still shooting one. The .222 is just a half a step less range than the .223. I still shoot mine with great results. Later in the day, it seems more distance is required, then the .22-250 come out.

That's some phenominal shooting at 480 yards! I didn't know the triple deuce could be that effective at such distant ranges. I always thought that was .22-250 or 220 Swift territory, but you have shown how far that little round can reach, (gets out there fast too). I own a Remington chambered in .222 that I have shot penny sized groups with at 100 yards using Sierra blitzking bullets on top of 20 grains of H4198. Long live the .222........-what a great round. Thanks Cavedweller, and thanks to the late Mike Walker (designer of the .222 ).

Cumberland Outdoorsman The shooting is fine. It is just a pity he don’t care if the bullet only rips the jaw off of the animals. Showcasing precision could be Done fine on papertargets without risking unecessary pain for the animals. If you really need to get rid of the animals then a more reliable caliber for the distance Should be used if you want to act responsibly.

@@dubson_h2500 OK, I am all for humane and responsible hunting, but I failed to see any crippling shots in this video. I have seen other videos that are clearly examples of cruelty and inhumane practices, but not here. I understand that the .222 has been described as a 250 yard cartridge in magazines and books, but this guy obviously knows his rifle/bullet combination, and where it will be at the given distances that he is shooting in field conditions as is displayed in the video. I personally don't have the long range experience that this man has, but I do know that the .222 is inherently the most accurate of all the .22 centerfires.

My very first centerfire rifle that I owned was a Remington 700 BDL in .222 . I loved it so much , that I still own it ! Bought it in '78 , put a Weaver 10× a.o. on it that I bought used . Tack driver . I still love the triple deuce , it's a shame that it's fallen out of favor these days . It's a reloaders dream , and just about everyone I ever shot was very accurate. Inherited an Anshutz 153 from a favorite uncle , I believe it's the most accurate rifle I've ever fired . Love your video !

I have the same rifle. Remington M700 BDL in triple 2. It is a killing machine. Crazy accurate even with factory ammo but hand loads are just awesome. I got mine sometime in the early 90s. Below it has my old Simmons 4-12x40 duplex reticle scope if I recall correctly. I have raised Weaver thru rings so I can shoot both iron sights and scope. Right now I have a little 3-9x32 mil dot reticle scope on it. Not as good magnification as the Simmons though but I like the mil dot better. Oops. My bad. The photos show it with the 3-9x32 mil dot scope on it. Same here, the most accurate rifle I have ever fired bar none and my Savage 110 .25-06 (my first centerfire rifle) was a very accurate rifle so that is saying something. Never needed to bed this rifle, its that good right out of the box. With all my .223 brass I can resize down to .222 I have an endless supply but I still have a good stock of original dedicated .222 brass to use before going there. I can also use the iron sights with the raised or riser thru rings. If I switched to a larger scope (objective lens) I would not be able to access the iron sights. That is why it sports a smaller scope now. storage04.dropshots.com/photos7000/photos/949785/20170110/b_174651.jpg storage04.dropshots.com/photos7000/photos/949785/20170110/b_174648.jpg storage04.dropshots.com/photos7000/photos/949785/20170110/b_174655.jpg

@rbm6184
@rbm6184 4 жыл бұрын
@@mrcirino5181 I use IMR 4198 for mine. Most accurate for mine. Does not take that much charge per case, maybe 20 grains or so. 55gr. bullets mostly. Look up loads for it in a Hornady or Nosler reloading manual or one of the reloading or bullet or powder companies loading booklets. If you run short on .222 brass cases you can always full length resize .223 brass cases down to .222. All you are doing is reforming the case to .222. The .222 has a longer neck and why its more accurate than .223. Thin lube. Too much lube and you get dents. Too little lube and you get a stuck case. Trim it down to .222 case length.

I remember the days when the cattlemen welcomed us to their ranches. I had a Remington 700 BDL in .222, My partner had a Win 70 in 25-06 which he re-, loaded carefully. We get about even under 200 yards. He beat me beyond that. I wondered how those groundhogs can hear a safety unclick at that distances,. A cow breaks a leg when she steps into a groundhog burrow. and she becomes a "Downer Beef". Our friends barbecues the groundhog meat just like beef but more greasy. It's hard to believe 1972 is already half a century ago,

@Quintius Hirpinus Thanks for the reply and letting me know. I had Googled that it and it came back that caliber was no longer chambered. Goes to show how not to depend on that. I thought what a shame when I saw that after learning what I had about its accuracy. I don t own any presently but have always liked those old school calibers that have fallen out of favor usually by the popularity of another as the case of the 257 Roberts and the 25- 06. I took 3 different mags when young and read all cover to cover but my favorite where the shooting articles each month and got and early education on ballistics and those calibers I mentioned. Jack O'Conner and Jim Charmicle taught me a lot.

cavedweller1959 hey dweller !! My b.mag target has arrived and it's shooting 1" groups at 100 yds so hoping to get even better after bedding it. What I have noticed however , was a scratch down the length of the spent cases, being caused by a burr on the edge of the breach. It scratches when the bullet goes in and again when the spent cage is ejected . At first I thought it was a manufacturing fault, but I have just realised it where the firing pin has been bashing it when dry firing . I was under the impression modern rifles can be try fired . Clearly the b.mag cannot . It would be worth getting your opinion on it and checking yours , maybe do a quick video on it highlighting the issue .
