Owning guns does not ensure safety... If someone breaks into a home, the owner still needs to wake up, get the gun AND get a shot off before the intruder takes a single shot on target. Want to keep your family safe? you'd be better off securing your property than arming yourself. If you want a bit of fun hitting some targets, then sure! own many guns :P

*Time for a Quiz:* You are patrolling your ranch and ensuring everything is safe when all of a sudden you spot a vicious watermelon that could endanger your life (Seeds are chocking hazards and stuff). You reach into your pocket to see what you can defend yourself with, only to find a handful of handgun rounds (.22 LR, 9mm, .44 magnum, ect..). You remember your guns are in your truck so you back off slowly and search your truck only to find a shotgun and a roll of duct tape (Your wife must have borrowed your handgun to unblock the sink or something). With the previously mentioned items, would you be able to defend yourself? *[in short, can you fire handgun rounds from a shotgun using duct tape to make them fit? If it is possible, would it be accurate enough to hit a selected target?]*
@BurnTheNuance8 жыл бұрын

@XxMrDamoastaHDxX8 жыл бұрын
there are certain casings for handgun calibres to be shot out of a shotgun we here in germany use this for the ,,fangschuss" (if the animal is not dead just wounded to shoot it in the head and end its pain) but it is not quite accurate because u have just the very short ,,barrell" of the shotgun shell because the barrel is much bugger than handgun calibers.
@ihrbekommtmeinenrichtigennamen8 жыл бұрын
+Nicky Wilkinson Matt did a kind of similar video. He shot a rifle round out of a glock barrel (unfortunately I can't find the video). It fit diameter-wise but rifle cartridges are thinner at the part where they hold the projectile. That part expanded when fired, which took a lot of energy In addition to that there is no gas seal which can properly propel the projectile. The projectile comes out with a tiny fraction of the energy it would normally have.

Thank you Matt you've really taught me a lot watching your channel this past 2 years. As always keep up the great work!🔫☺
@VarietyCentralClips8 жыл бұрын
+Nicky Wilkinson Take the shotgun barrel off and use tape to fit the rounds and strike the primer with a rock because most likely inside a shotgun the firing pin wouldn't line up the the pistol primer or it would break the primer of the pistol cartridge and it would backfire so you would be shit out of luck most likely

Amen!
@wigon8 жыл бұрын
+Alex TheGreatest Yup, they're both nice. 5.56mm with soft-point bullets for home defense (low recoil, easy to lay down lots of lead on target, minimal over-penetration), while 7.62 for anti-vehicle usage, long range reach out and touch someone capability, higher lethality, and all-around excellent hunting caliber (multi-purpose). It's a overkill for home defense however (massive over-penetration) and the hefty recoil makes it a bit intimidating and hard to shoot rapidly for light-statured people. As such both calibers serve distinct purposes and I agree, they are both wonderful calibers. My favorite however is in the middle of those two with 7.62X39mm. lol
@BobotheGreat8 жыл бұрын
+wigon I use all 3 and yes the 7.62x39 is also a great cartridge mixing the two but still very different.
@wigon8 жыл бұрын
Yup... it's a nice alternative for someone who wants a heavy hitting 30 caliber round but without quite as much recoil. It's a great hunting caliber as well. It's downsides however is that it still has more recoil than 5.56mm and it still is not ideal for home defense due to over-penetration issues even with soft-tipped bullets (due to the mass of the bullet vs. the lower mass off the 5.56mm soft tips). So like all things, its important to select the right tools for the job.
@BobotheGreat8 жыл бұрын
+wigon Exactly so having all three makes anyone prepared for any situation haha. 556 for home, and the other two for hunting and longer shooting.

i watch your videos a lot and just figured id drop some knowledge on why the U.S military has the 5.56 as their main round. The 7.62 used to be the prefered round because of its stopping power straight in straight out big hole but with 5.56 the round begins to tumble in the air so for example you shoot center mass like youre taught in the military the 5.56 will hit and tumble through the body causing a larger channel that gets all torn up and could exit anywhere (shot to the chest could come out lowere back) this is a nightmare for medics and more than likely a person hit with the round in a firefight is going to die, so not as much firepower but more damge to the human body

@C-M-E8 жыл бұрын
The funny thing about .223/5.56 is that the context of the round is often misconstrued. It is most effective as a maiming round, to wit, it is more effective at wounding an enemy combatant than killing them outright. I myself thought this unusual, but in combat, on the grand scale, it is more effective to tie up resources in one's enemy trying to save a wounded soldier rather than killing mass quantity and moving on. Very Sun Tzu in a way.

Which is better? It's kind've a subjective question. Both calibers have their intended purposes, and each is meant to do those purposes well. 5.56x45mm (.223) is really good for home defense, taking out smaller game and popping off targets with ease at under ~200 yards. Any farther than that without a good RDS or magnified optic is gonna be difficult. And that far out, because of their blazing speed and light weight, the bullets get very inaccurate. So, to sum up: .223 is a good close-medium range caliber used to take out multiple targets in rapid succession. 7.62x51mm (.308) is a little larger than the .223, so it's better at taking out larger game and hitting targets farther off. With a good ACOG or magnified scope, a .308 rifle is great for sniping at 300-500+ yards, up to a certain point. But in close range, unless you're a big dude- carrying a rifle that big is going to be difficult. Sum up of .308: .308 is great for easy sniping and taking out larger bodies. All in all, if you want to be able to pop off 30-60 rounds in close-medium range with both eyes open using an RDS, get a .223 AR. They're fantastic anti-personnel weapons. If you want more power and are willing to pick up a heavier, bigger gun (depending on manufacturer and barrel length), get a .308 AR. Both are great rounds, just keep in mind that a .223 is smaller and faster, while the .308 is bigger and more powerful.

lets not forget price, lets be real .223 is pretty pricey on a range day specially when you're taking out people who don't have their own guns or bring their own ammo, I couldn't imagine buying 300 rounds of .308 for 2-3 hours of shooting

youngnutsack17 - That is also an important factor. Just gotta play it smart, I guess.

CrimsonYeti And 6.5 Grendel actually behaves better at long range than .308, while using standard AR-15 components with only a new bolt, barrel, and magazine.

Ahhh... the Grendel. I forgot about that round. It is a very nice round.
