"2 Pints and a packet of crisps... please!" Funny sitcom based in Runcorn... However its a song one hit wonder by Splodgenessabounds in 1980, which led to the sitcom 20 years later.... dare I say I remember the song being in my late teens when punk was all the rage... the unknown band somehow got air time with then Mike Reed ( to be Eastenders fame)Radio 1 when Radio 1 was a big thing for teens (cough)....

Our first ever hire boat holiday started at Preston Brook and our very first task was to negotiate the tunnel! We practiced locks at Dutton Lock and we eventually got as far as Nantwich. We loved it so much we had many other hire boat holidays before buying our own boat which we plan to retire on to in the next couple of years. Great memories, thank you :) Sadly the hire boat company has since gone out of business (nothing to do with us!)

Hallo my dears! Thank you sooo much for your wonderful vlog! Really uplifted me from my 'doldrums'😊👍 Germans also call crisps 'chips', which lead to quite a bit of confusion in the past, as I would make chips, with loadsa dips, and side dishes! When my guests arrived, they were quite flabbergasted at what I had prepared, as they were only expecting to drink wine with a few snacks, instead of homemade meatballs, chips, tzadziki, salad, etc🤣 I soon learned the difference!😊 All love and best wishes to you 3, Claire and co! 😘😘😘❤

When you mention the large concrete lined cavern part way through the Preston Brook tunnel, I believe that it was formed when a tunnel,collapse occurred, not sure exactly when but probably in the seventies or eighties. I think I was told that they used some concrete tunnel liners from another tunnel being repaired somewhere else at the time, could have been the Blisworth - but I'm not wholly sure about that.
@MinimalList5 жыл бұрын
Yes apparently there as a partial collapse in November 1981... didn’t know about that going in! Makes sense that section is part of the repairs, thanks! M
@JohnSecker5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it collapsed in 1981 or 82, reopened in 1984. That vertical tube, more like a cavern, with a dome on top, is spectacular, far larger than the ventilation shafts in most tunnels. I always take a look up when we're going through.

@MinimalList4 жыл бұрын
We haven’t really got a list we keep, though we might revisit that idea once we’ve finished them all. Problem is it’s going to depend on what criteria you’re trying to maximize for. That said, if we were trying to find a canalside home we’d probably look on the Rochdale from the summit through Hebden Bridge, the L&L around Skipton, the Llangollen (kind of anywhere), the Chesterfield, the Pocklington, and the Ashby, though in no particular order! The Runcorn ring does sound exciting, and it's brilliant to see a canal restoration project with a short timeline, but I do wonder what the Manchester Ship Canal think of it. Aren't their licence costs rather high for Narrowboats and don't you need a special safety check? You may only need to be on the MSC for a short time to get to the Weaver but if they didn't relax their rules for boats needing to avoid the Middlewich breach last year will they relax them for boats wanting to hop on and off to do the Runcorn Ring? If you have to pay £60 a day and have a special safety check I can't see many boats bothering and that would kill it before it started.
@MinimalList5 жыл бұрын
No idea what the MSC guys are thinking on that one, but since they and the Bridgewater are owned by the same company they might figure out a way of coordinating it. The seaworthiness certificate is basically just a formality these days, so that’s one part they could cut out fairly easily. One hopes they do! M

I may be stoned for heresy, but I've always found Two Pints much funnier than Gavin and Stacey.

Yep popularity of Gavin and Stacey another example of the North South divide. 2 pints was ruder and started off on BBC 3 so maybe that's the difference really.....

Two pints of lager was a brilliant programme, I can’t comment on Gav and Stacey, have tried to watch it but it never appealed much ...
